I don’t understand. Steph spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons sitting on the bench in the 4th quarters because he would put teams away early. Why was he discredited for that?

@animegopher

@jinxsauce5095 They do that literally all the time. Curry can't be considered all time because he doesn't have a defensive team, but Jokic can be considered the concensus 2nd or 1st greatest center of all time. But he's a FAR worse defender than Steph. He only plays one side of the ball.

This. Every time I'd hear people talk about Steph in the 4th I'd wonder what they were expecting when, especially during that 5 year run where he was in the finals every year, they were either blowing teams out (the majority of their high win percentage wins) or getting blown out (those handful of head scratching losses). In between that, he played just fine in the clutch despite the high ball-movement system the Warriors played with that didn't really facilitate one guy dominating that category.

As a Warriors fan, I honestly hope Lakers clinch 7th seed after winning their first play-in game so Warriors don't have to deal with these BS Flakers refs in second play-in game (if they win against SAC). I definitely agree. I’ve been so tired of people saying Steph is a choker. He has always been good in the clutch but since the 2016 finals, people created this false narrative that he doesn’t show up when it matters. He definitely is the CPOTY but I honestly doubt they’ll give it to him. It seems like voters tend to look for reasons to not vote for Steph unless he makes it undebatable.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what Steph does to prove his greatness. Someone will always have a reason to knock him. If it isn’t about his clutch gene or rings, it’s going to be about something else. Then, when there is nothing else, they will just claim Magic Johnson is better all time. Some people 😭

the thing about clutch shooting is that everyone thinks that it means taking the last shot of a game in which you’re down 3pts or less. that is not the definition of clutch shooting, which is actually the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter when the point differential is 10 or less. yes curry is not great at game winning go ahead goals. that doesn’t mean he’s not a clutch shooter.
@rxfin763

not making the last shot is exactly what makes him not clutch. his bumass is 0-14 in playoffs go ahead shots
@marcossantana8239
@marcossantana8239 Месяц назад
@@rxfin763 First of all being clutch is about to hit clutch shots frequentlly. Steph has been pretty clutch in the playoffs by hit clutch shots to seal the deal, to make it two possessions game, to cut the opponent leads.. those are enough to say Steph is a clutch player and you're wrong... but you are even more wrong cause: He has lots of go ahead clutch shots made in playoffs as well. Also he has some last shot made in playoffs (to draw, but it is enough to prove you wrong cause you said "not making the last shots makes him not clutch"). You just took a pathetic data yet post it incompletelly.
@visno
@visno Месяц назад
@@rxfin763 yea that’s not how you calculate clutch because if he scores 12 points in the last 5 minutes and that puts his team up by 6 points by the time it comes to the last 20 seconds of the game, doesn’t mean he’s not clutch. you’re falling for the same trick that these guys are. clutch shooting literally has a definition and you are trying to redefine it.

I'm so sick of the narrative that every award has to go to a player on a good team, like it's one thing to have this standard for MVP, but bro at the very least can we please just acknowledge when someone is the actual best clutch player in the league despite the fact that they're not on a good team? Like even with DPOY too. I get that the Timberwolves were amazing this season and their defense as a whole was amazing, but Rudy Gobert is only a piece of that, Ant, Jaiden McDaniels, Mike Conley, Alexander-Walker like they just have a really solid defense all around. The spurs core on defense is horrendous. When Wemby isn't playing their defense is atrocious, admittedly when he is playing their defense still isn't great but it's much better than when he's not on the floor. Beyond that his counting stats are better than Gobert's in every category, and that doesn't even count how many times his presence alone stops someone from driving to the hoop early. Give Wemby DPOY man idc that his team sucks.

- The percentage of Steph's points from the total points the team scored in the clutch is even more insane if you only look at the minutes he actually played. They are 1-4 in 5 clutch games without him, the only win coming in game 82 vs Utah which basically came down to a meaningless G league game. You can also throw in the loss to the Bulls when he got injured and didn't actually play the clutch minutes, which would make them 23-19 with him and 1-5 without. - His 32 clutch 3s are by far an nba record, the previous record was 22 (on worse efficiency). - While the total points and fgs between him and Derozan seem close, clutch time is very different each game. So most people will look at games played and averages, when in reality Steph's clutch games came down to 3.3 mpg, and Derozan played 4.8 mpg (almost x1.5 more). So even though Steph played 3 more games, Derozan played 49 more minutes (which is A LOT). As a result, Derozan averaged 4.6 ppg in 4.8 mpg to Steph's 4.4 in 3.3 mpg. If you look at it per 36 minutes, Steph is by far the league leader with 47.6(!) per 36 minutes while Demar is ninth (among players with at leat 75 clutch minutes) with 34.2. - In the clutch, both fg% and ts% are important - overall efficiency is represented in ts%, and actual results which are more relevant than general analytics in singular clutch possesions are represented in fg%. Steph has better percentages than Demar in both, even though he's taken 70 threes to Demar's 15 (which usually lowers fg%), and taken 41 fts to Demar's 74 (fts usually increase ts%). - The Bulls are 3-1 without Demar in clutch games, while as we mentioned the Warriors are pretty much winless without Steph. I think Demar's case comes mostly from insane minutes volume and the team being a great clutch team. The Warriors couldn't play defense or get a rebound to save their lives, and yet Steph got them 23 wins to finish the season 10 games over .500. The Bulls finished 4 games bellow .500, but in the east that's good enough for the ninth seed... Overall, I think it's the old battle between team performance and individual brilliance, since it's obvious that Steph had a way better individual season and the Bulls had a better collective season (with Derozan as the leader) in the clutch. If you look at overall team success, the Warriors had a much better season but happen to have the privilege of playing in the west. The problem is, this is an MVP type argument and nobody knows what actually is the criteria for this award. In my opinion, this is not the clutch MVP, it's the clutch player, so team success should not have much weight (beyond a winning record or something close to it) unless everything else is close. It feels inevitable that each voter will intepret it in a completely different way, so we will see votes for all types of players. It's also inevitable that 'Not clutch' narratives, overall Steph hate, people not caring enough about the award to look beyond some no-context box scores, and the play-in results will rob Steph of the award. It's insane to me that the awards voting does not close before the post season begins, it is absolutely going to affect voters and there is no place for that in regular season awards. If anyone thinks the voting should be affected by the post season, that's a different conversation which might need to include the playoffs as well.

Also people complaining about 10th seed GSW are just honestly blind. GSW now was just a really bad specially on the Defensive side. Sure they can go on a scoring run but team are way more competitive now that they can go on par with GSW 3 point shots. A lot of teams now are just Well Rounded on their kind of Player Lineups and honestly GSW is just all over the place. Can't blame Curry but it's like everyone around him is lost..relies too much on Steph's Scoring Ability.

No matter what you say that's a good reason to see why people don't think he's clutch. Just last season in game 4 vs Sacramento, he called a timeout when they didn't have one and missed a floater that would've iced likely iced the game, they lose that game they probably lose the series. And also in game 4 vs the Lakers, he missed two go ahead shots against AD down 1.
