College is a unique time of possibility. Maybe you already have a career path in mind or perhaps you don’t know what you wanna do when you graduate. Regardless, it’s clear that there is an intense concern for the future for many college students. So how can the philosophy of stoicism help someone in that situation?
Many stoic philosophers emphasize the fact that we don’t have control over future events. It sounds like common knowledge, but it’s easy to ignore this when obsessing over how you want your future to turn out. But this doesn’t mean that you should throw all your planning away. Instead, try to emotionally prepare yourself for when things don’t go your way my reminding yourself of the unpredictable nature of the future.
