Whoa I had to rewatch the Ainz vs Shalltear fight just to see Auras breath skill attack on Shalltear. I didn't even realize that eyeball was from Auras skill which bought Ainz just the amount of time after hesitation to cast that last spell. I always assumed that it was some move Ainz used a while back and Aura was doing some sigh of relief afterwards. What an eye opener.

In the light novel (volume 2, chapter 3) It's actually stated that Aura is weak fighting solo but if she could summon and buff her various magical beasts which could reach a max level of 90, Ains says: "With these beasts at her command, her combat abilities far surpassed those of any other Guardian." Now personally i still don't think she's the strongest but she's definitely not weak if she can buy enough time to summon her beasts.

A few things I would like to point out. *1:* While summoning spells/skills tend to be temporary, it has been mentioned in the novel that someone who specializes in summoning can make permanent summons (they still can only have a set amount of summons at any one time, so this just meant that you wouldn't have to re-summon them until they died). It was implied that even these specialists had to do some extra (probably costly) efforts to make a summon permanent though. *2:* While pretty much any spell can indeed be put into a scroll, you need to have a class capable of that type of spells to be able to use it. Putting a Priest spell into a scroll would not allow Ainz to use it, since he has no class that can use Priest spells. This is explained in Volume 6 when Solution uses her Assassin class to "trick" the scroll, thus letting her use it (to heal Tsuare). Wands are the same; in order for Ainz to use the _True Resurrection_ wand to ress Neia he had to use a rare cash-shop ring to get past this limit. However, there are items that anyone can use to cast spells; instead of putting a spell into a scroll, it can be put into a book. Likewise there are the wand-equivalent of this, staffs. While you need to fulfill the class requirement (or circumvent it) to use scrolls/wands, anyone can use books/staffs to the same effect (they are likely more expensive to make though). *3:* Yes, it was Aura using her breath to scare Shalltear at the end of her fight against Ainz. This was a lot clearer in the novel, where it's also explained that it's a unique ability in that it actually can affect even undead (and other beings with Mind Immunity), at least during certain circumstances. *4:* Yes, Aura is rather weak for a level 100, but it is mentioned in the novel that if she fights with her beasts she can easily beat most (if not all) other guardians in a 1-on-1 fight. I find this reasonable; it's said over and over that everything in Yggdrasil was balanced by having negatives for each positive. Having a lot of beasts means you cannot have as much personal combat power, or you'd be so OP it wouldn't even be funny.

All this talk about how Yggdrasil’s mechanics work makes me crave the future of MMORPGs

Undead like Shalltear and Ainz are immune to psychic attacks including those that directly manipulate the mind. That doesn’t mean they can’t be tricked. High level illusions and invisibility spells can work against them, so likely Aura’s skill didn’t act directly on Shalltears mind but made a false hostile presence which Shalltear sensed.

Also don't forget that they're the Twin Dark Elves. They're meant to fight as a unit, a cohesive battle battalion of their own, pretty much. Aura can summon her hoard of beastial minions and buff them, and although her own stats are typically on the lower-end, Mare can buff her and himself. Likely even also, if he wanted to spend the MP to do so, buff her minions in addition to Aura's buffs. In addition, you have Mare's two dragon companions. Aura and Mare are very likely a pretty terrifying sight to behold if you get them inside of Shalltear's forest domain, where they can fight to their absolute fullest.

Worth mentioning that "whip" weapons are also common in psychic classes. Depending on the class there might even be skill trees that let you manipulate it further, or make ones that are not physical. So it could be a path that Aura didn't get to explore in favor of other abilities. At least depending on what inspirations the author took from.

That thumbnail got me feeling some kind of way and I love it.

I know this is fairly old content at this point. But something that I feel is an interesting point about Aura is that she is somewhat unique among the floor guardians in a few ways. First, is her relationship with Ainz, in that she seems to be a favored and trusted floor guardian because she lacks the malicious nature of Albedo or Demiurge, while retaining the logical and reliable nature of someone who can think for herself and act independently. This is reflected in later content through her service to Ainz and her relationship with Shaltear. She assumes the role of big-sister to Shaltear, similar to bubbling tea pot being the big sister to peroroncino, and gently guides Shaltear to a state where she is also more reliable in her service to Nazarick and capable of thinking and strategizing on her own, even to the point of 'technically betraying Ainz's secret lie' about the Death Knights to Shaltear so that she understands how devoted Ainz is to her improvement. Secondly, this isn't covered in detail anywhere near as much in the anime as it is in the LN, but Aura actually saved Ainz's life in the fight with Shaltear. She's the only one who knows this and she would never bring it up. Right as Shaltear was going to disrupt the final killing spell by striking Ainz's hand, which would have allowed her to lifesteal off of him, prevent TGOALID from going off, and possibly defeat him due to his gamble to completely forgo defense and rely on his strategy, Aura "sniped" Shaltear with her breath ability from 2 miles away which caused her to flinch because she was forced to "perceive a threat behind her". This gave Ainz that final precious second to finish the spell. It's really interesting that this puts her in a different light than the other floor guardians, because she has actually witnessed that he isn't perfect, but still supports him as if he were... probably because he is trying his hardest to demonstrate his love for the children of his friends. The sniper class is especially useful for her because of her innate breath ability and it also pairs well with projectile weapon usage, so she is very capable beyond simple direct fighting. Her pure physical build and reliance on allied creatures makes her an excellent dedicated ranger, who can still accomplish other tasks due to special abilities. I believe there is some dialogue in the LN where Ainz considers how the breath ability works and considers it highly useful precisely because it doesn't follow the usual "mind affecting" rules, something about "natural abilities or class based abilities" being different to "immunity to magical mind affects" since it's not technically part of the magic system. In my mind, she is the closest thing Ainz has to a friend in the series, since he often talks fairly openly with her (since he isn't afraid of her seeing through him like Demiurge or Albedo), and I am not entirely sure if he even notices how much he dotes on her.

Its funny how the beast tamer classes can have so many effects. It could control how many pets you can control, the level range you can control, (Like, i could see you only being able to tame within x levels of yourself, and that number shrinks with each class level) the boosts and buffs that go into using your beasts in combat. It could even have things like special classes of beasts you can only tame if you have the right class maxxed out. And it does make sense that her personal stats are low. She isnt going to be the source of all her damage after all. Her high level beasts will be. In fact, thats an interesting thought, aura and demiurge are basically mirror images of each other. Both can control vast swarms of creatures, both can buff their minions and probably debuff their enemies. One is primarily a spell caster after they are a summoner, the other is a range/melee hybrid class as well as a summoner. I wonder how much of her range damage is real damage, and how much of it is "Im bored letting my pets do everything, so let me plink away for like, 1/10th the damage with my bow" or is it a deep enough investment of points that her range damage is actually dangerous to an extent? Not snipe from 2 km away with a one shot kill dangerous, but certainly not something you can just ignore while her pets are trying toe at your face.

Heey, congratulations on getting sponsored! After it all, I definitily say I'd roll some kind of unholy hybrid between Ainz, Demiurge, Aura and Omega. I've always been one for summons, and considering all the RP that goes into Overlord's worldbuilding, I'd triple down on it as hard as I could, to summon everything there is to summon and strengthen them; who knows, maybe that'd unlock a super secret class like Eclipse. It was a great video Also, that thumbnail.

I think it's in the nature of immunity. Shaltear is immune movement impairment like paralysis but Ainz cast a cage spell. Not the same thing as the former effects the target's body directly while the latter doesn't. Same idea with the distraction. The distraction was an illusion that I believe was visual. It's something Ainz might've been able to see. As such, it isn't directly mind effecting. It could be that this illusion can also put out a false hostile aura capable of being detected. This would be similar to a blinding light spell where a person may be immune to the blinding but still see the light. Then again, Aura was in the possession of world class items which can have the effect of altering the rules of the game in Yggdrasil. So they could also have the effect of altering the world they are in. Keep in mind that Shaltear was in the state she was in due to, possibly, a world class item being used on her. It could also be that world's rules being applied to them. In D&D, undead are immune to mind effecting magic yet Turn Undead can cause undead to flee in terror. It's a pseudo mind effect.

But how can she have an indomitable will without the classes, “King of the cavern” and “The Count of Monte Cristo”?

Just wanna point out, "beast tamer" is actually a fairly popular advanced class for rangers and druids, with the whip being favored as it generally does nonlethal damage, allowing beast subduction. She's a strong enough beast tamer, that her 'minions' choose to follow her. The chameleon kiss, for example, or hamtaro totally submitting, despite being the single strongest natural lifeform. Remember, armor ainz is totally nerfed

Given some of the information given in the light novel about her breath abilities, it seems to me like she might be able to use some of the Sniper class features to help target opponents at range for her buff/debuff breath abilities. Thoughts?
