there was a typo in wartime strength. it 280k not 180k

the reason why Finnish navy is so much into minelaying and sweeping is that our coast is shallow and riddled with small islands. like our eastern border is full of lakes and forests so the key defense strategy is to choke any attacker to key points where they can be picked off more easily.

Our main strenght is the peoples wilingess to defend our country. Most of the adult males you meet here hava at least basic military training. In top of that a signifigant number of young women have served as volunteers. (I hold a huge respect for these women for them to stepping up voluntarily)

Regarding vehicles, if the need so requires, the defense forces have the right to use what they need. They have a list of all 4x4 cars and trucks in Finland. If necessary, for example during a war, they can deploy them.

When I started my conscript 1978, wartime strength was abut 700 k, and early 90's still about. 500 k. Eastern border is as long as it was in 1978.

The reserve includes all 18-60 year olds who have served in the army. The realistic number is much lower. The fight is determined by fitness, i.e. whether there are illnesses or injuries

I also don't know what the man in the video shown in this video meant by "as they say in Finland". Maybe he mispronounced the Finnish saying, but I suddenly couldn't understand what it could have been?
