To all those thinking it wasn’t close: -Go to the nearest protected road crossing with a 2 track high speed (faster than 45mph or 70kmh) mainline. - When you see a train coming, from a safe distance (aka standing behind the crossing gate) try and guess which track the train is on from a distance. - If you want a challenge look away from the train and only turn around once you hear it then make a guess. - See how many times you get it right and then remember that your safely away from the tracks and not making a life or death situation -

All of the people joking about it not being a "close call at all" ...... please do note that in this situation they were actually and genuinely in potential danger : they were watching the train that was on the other lane and not in front of them, and because of the noise of the train, if another one passed by on the other track (which is really not a small possibility as this is basically a train highway if you want an analogy. There is a ton of traffic going on there) they were actually completely fucked. Their comportment was actually needlessly reckless and could easily have got them killed, again, it's a bit similar to crossing the highway, it's not because there was no car when you did it that it wasn't a stupid idea, and it's probably a bit less dumb to cross the highway (unless you are beyond dumb and go in during rush hour) because at least the lanes are in a single way and have generally really good visibility due to how wide and flat they are, train tracks like these are a lot more hazardous also because trains can go a lot faster than cars and are harder to stop on top of being unable to steer) I can go on about how stupid this was, they were actually really lucky that there was only one train passing through when they were on it, they would have had a very very very high chance of dying if there were two (as standing between them is insanely dangerous as well)
@PacoReer
@PacoReer Год назад
I had to jump from a train to another due to an engine failure. Nothing like an action movie, our train stopped, so an empty train stopped next to us to help us reach our destination. They used a ladder as a bridge from one train to the other, but you could easily jump that distance. That's how close the two trains are, so "insanely dangerous" is the perfect way to describe how dangerous it is to stay between them

I replied with saying that indeed I was an idiot and didn't think for a second, and I am very sorry for being a bad example for the kids. At that moment I could see the "system error" in his face. I think also from my looks, he probably expected a bratty kid snarking back at him. He was clearly not prepared for my remorse. Why is everyone so self-righteous and in some cases nasty? What this couple did was gross trespass all right but they would harm no-one but themselves. How could they know there would be busybodies there with their cameras. Look both ways before trespassing! I've done it myself - inside a tunnel - quite safe because I knew the timetable backwards. My parents thought it was a bit naughty but nothing worse. "You be careful, my boy" etc. etc. Of course if you saw a ganger you'd scarper because he might tell the police. Even then you'd probably get no more than a bollocking.

We had a real classic case near here a few years ago. A commuter got off the local train, and rather than talk the bridge over to the parking lot, he walked around the back of the local to cross the track and the low iron spike fence along the parking lot. But just as he stepped out from behind the local onto the second track, the high speed train to NYC smacked into him. They had to close the parking lot while they cleaned up the mess on the cars and all, including the body parts stuck on the low iron spiked fence.
