The immune system is designed to protect us by keeping abnormal cells in check. In some instances, cancer cells can evade this natural immune response, causing the cancer to grow. To stop the cancer cells from hijacking the immune system, AstraZeneca is developing T-cell engagers. T-cell engagers are a novel type of medicine that combines elements of antibodies for the immune cell and for the cancer cell, which causes the immune system to deploy T-cells that damage cancer cells and prevent them from growing. This combination of two antibodies has the potential to address hard-to-treat cancers more effectively.
