You're just crying, that's all, why then are all the same professional players who played T7 for Steve still playing for Steve in T8 and carrying out combinations for 100 damage? Stop whining and learn new combinations on this character
@@finn4at I am crying. I wish British people were real and yet, Namco Bandai fucking made me wish that they weren’t. How awful, truly and wholly awful.
If i list the things that make me pissed about T8 Steve, it will never end so I'm only gonna mention about two things that really annoys me. Most of the characters still keeping their ws ch launchers like Bryan or Raven. But unlike other characters, Steve's ws ch launcher was super vital to his gameplan for duck stance pressure or ch baiting. And now THE counter hit character doesn't have that but other chars does. How's that fair? They even nerfed his uf4 hopkick like if it was broken or something
I'm trying to understand what they were trying to prevent by toning this stuff down. He was good in Tekken 7, but there wasn't ever a time where I felt like the match up was just completely unfair like it is fighting a dragonov on T8 or something.
Hopkick was pretty much useless anyways and worse than uf2. But at least now it's a safe CH launcher so I'm not sure if that is really a nerf 🤔 It's slow and hitbox is shit but now you sometimes place it in a niche situation without worrying about being punished.
As a former Steve Main who thinks a lot about Tekken and is enjoying 8 despite some obvious flaws, I think the idea is that The Tekken Team wanted to have Steve as a character who could retaliate on people who swung back, but wanted to go about it in a different way than with raw Hitboxes (things like Back 1, Down Forward 2, While Standing 2, etc.) Now Steve has Manual Lionheart which is like Back Kenpo with Feng. Feng's idea is that he's trying to poke you, frustrate you, and make you make a mistake, then boom, Back Kenpo. Instead of Steve Launching you on Counter-Hit, he entices you to swing, and then uses Manual Lionheart as a Whiff Punish off retaliation. He's still trying to punish the opponent for swinging, but in a different way. Lionheart is not a bad addition, but so many things were outright subtracted, or changed, that this new thing they gave him can't possibly fill the void of what was removed. All this in addition to him not being able to control the 3D element as tightly as before thanks to Lateral Movement being stronger across the board in 8. It can't be understated how important it was that Steve's Tracking was busted so that it forced the opponent's timing into narrower windows and made it easier to land Counter-Hits. I can't say what Namco's intentions are, but I think they wanted Steve as more of a Counter-Hit and Movement character rather than just a Counter-Hitter. But to do so, they'd probably need to commit to that and give Steve a Heat Sway or Heat Lionheart, or Heat Flicker in addition to his Heat Duck-In.
@@kylefields3951 thanks for this. I'm not a super in depth Steve player myself, but I am familiar with how to play against the character with a good amount of the cast. I just don't understand why in a game with Lee having a lot of his weaknesses removed and keeping the strengths, we get examples like Bryan losing his knock down off 3+4 or his magic 4 counter hit. It's the same deal with steve. They removed those things, but some characters kept their dirt and not only got new shit, but also had their weaknesses removed
I havent seen any tekken tuber talk about this so ill mention it. Apart from aesthetic and gameplay nerfs they've kinda nerfed Steve's identity. T4-T7 his identity was he waa great at punching. But had no poking kicks mix ups throw game Oki so his punches hit hardest. In T8 they took that away and gave him average LH stance which puts the steve player at disadvantage and his heat where again his punches are weaker now but he has a throw that can be broken and gives average damage. Ive seen Heera Knee JDCR Low High Steve getting punched around by King Dragunov Lilly Jun Paul Azucena Jin and characters who can challenge Steve's punches but are also stronger than him at poking Mix ups launches throw game combo damage and the difference in power of new heat mechanics between Steve and top tiers like Jun Azucena Dragunov actually show how dirty they did Steve in this game. Even heera Malik and low high barely manage to hit those heat mechanics once a month. Whereas Azucena Dragunov heat mechanics never seem to miss. Literally never. Even complete newbies manage to challenge these steve goats with these characters
Before seeing how T8 Steve Fox would look in the game, I imagined that it would be ideal for his poke mixup to be more varied, with some faster lows than the ones he has had. But what did we get in exchange?: a new stance that in many situations leaves you at a disadvantage, with the aggravating factor that all of its general damage was reduced. A real and absolute disappointment.
Removing the gataling combo is yet another example that the devs hate their player base. Don’t even play Steve but that’s the combo I always see when I think about him. To me that’s a huge part of his identity.
This vid really shines a spot light that i didnt see before because i never really played steve Like T7 Steve is this amazingly designed character with so much variety to him along with being one of the most technical characters in the game. He rewards players that are willing to dig deep in his mechanics and use his wide array of tools to get whatever edge they can. Rewarding the player with a versatile beast of a character. T8 Steve in comparison is genuinely disappointing from this perspective, all that versatility and variety you got in T7 replaced by "LionFart stance" and Ch follow ups. Its really sad to see this character water down this badly. I tried to downplay it and say "Well hes still a good character, he still got b1 lol" but honestly, it pains me to see this character take a massive hit to what made him so interesting in the first place
Fun fact: shiro combo was in the game in the latest CNT and pre-release demo, it was possible to get the gatling pickup at least from FLK f2 and EX DCK 1
Even his voice has 0 testosterone. They made him mid transition. Although i think thats brave and im happy for the lgbtqa+ community, i hope they make him fully trans like seth from sfv with breasts and stuff and it would be unironically better.
Im switching characters. It’s indicative that im beyond frustrated because I’m losing due to a underpowered character Vs Lili, Jin, Nina, Ling, King, and Yoshimitsu who just gets to do whatever the hell they want on this game. Shit is trash, whiff punish? CRUSH. They dropped a combo? Some ultra plus homing move that cheats you out of your turn. F u c k this game
So they nerfed his combo damage took away everything that made him look cool/gave him Leos Voice and nerfed literally everything possible and expected us to still enjoy him?
It's also not very good. I have it to about an 85% success rate but you can still just get hit because going into peekaboo doesn't let you block immediately, and you're still giving up all of your frame advantage just because you don't want to enter the suicide stance. It's like a little band aid on missing limb
Tekken 8 is basically everything i feared it would be. All of the demanding execution/difficuot to play characters get nerfed in either execution or gameplan. All of the easy and braindead characters get even easier to use by being stronger than the ones that require brain cells. I honestly think I might be done with Tekken...
right weave 12 its what hurt me the most since we got almost no launchers now , also ws2 ch since we got no df2 anymore they wanna remove all the launchers from steve looks like. i dont want lionheart mixups cmon harada
Damn... i am maining Steve Tekken 8 and i knew that there was a difference to Tekken 7 and that he got comparatively weaker but i did not know that there was THIS MUCH of a difference... gosh i wanna try Tekken 7 Steve now ._.
Wait till you see what the monstrosity he was during S2 of Tekken 7, but if you wanna go more ancient, he was straight up bully in Tekken 5. Easily most broken non boss character in History of tekken
Lionheart isn't even bad honestly, it's just that the things they changed put him into Lionheart whereas they used to do something else, which skews the perception. If Steve just had the first hit of While Standing 2 as a Counter-Hit Launcher but could still do the 2 extension as a Mixup, or still had Right Sway 1, 2 but could do Right Sway 1, Back 2 or something as the new Lionheart Option that would be good. Lionheart IS NOT BAD. It's that they're forcing you to use it, and that the moves they put it on used to do something else, and was better and had less risk and variance.
Lionheart is pretty bad though. It's good if you use it raw fishing for a whiff, but out of almost every string that puts you in it, all three options are beat by power crush unless you do the pkb cancel that's a bug, or backsway 1+2 which is a grab that does 0 damage midscreen@@kylefields3951
@@kylefields3951 nah it's bad. Flash straight up comes out faster even after earning the hit to LH. You can't quickly cancel it into block. Steve's fastest option leaves you at -9 and can be parried. His ducking guard break was removed in exchange for a slow LH 1+2 that can be STEPPED, DUCKED, ARMORED AND RA, when it should be homing and break armor. At minimum Steve should've had the ability to both cancel any LH transition and block. Maybe even be able to Kenpo again from LH.
@@TK-ev The reason Steve can't Kenpo Step again from Lionheart is that if he could then he could loop it and go backwards too fast for anyone to catch him. Like an even better "Ha-Ha" Step. I really do think people would view Lionheart in a better light if it didn't replace moves that used to do something else and was a pure addition rather than a change. Even if options have high coverage, you can still Sway, and Sway is stronger and gets around more tools like Power Crushes.
Something i dont understand is why cant steve choose to cancel into his stances with some moves? I play negan and bryan so its just odd that those 2 can choose to cancel but steve cant, which means going from db32 must either go into lion heart pressure or you gotta get rid of your plus frames to cancel it, so odd to me
It took me way too long to hit ruler with him lol. You have to have damn near perfect execution, defense, reads to do good at "high level" in my experience. I have no desire to play anyone else either so it blows hard...
I mean if you want to feel privileged again play Xiaoyu Both characters have a mid ranged mid, high f2,1 into stance mixup The high on HER f2,1 jails though 😂 now that's what true privilege in this game looks like
It really makes me wonder if the team that worked on 8 was the same one that worked on 7. They made so many baffling changes and the one that upsets me the most was removing shiro combo. That was an extremely hard combo that rewarded people for putting time into the game and character, with df2 having a reasonable startup for a ch launcher. But because they want to appeal to new players who want to see things on screen and almost immediately do it they remove it to equal the footing for everyone. It's even worse that shiro combo was left in the beta for a single move, just for it to be immediately removed on release.
Letting players be creative? Gone Reward with unconventional launchers that requires top tier execution? Gone Threatening CH game? Gone Just press the new shitty canned Lionheart strings into suicide stance. Top 3 difficulty character is bottom 2 strength. What kinda incompetent devs do that to a character? Df2 is the biggest one because Lee keeps a HOMING safe CH launching mid with a piss easy combo, but df2 which balanced itself with the extreme execution shiro combo had to go? Only 2 in 10 Steve's could even pull it off online
YESS This is what I have been talking about. Like the top 2% of Steve know how to play well and somehow the devs think he needs to be nerfed. If you look at his online winrate its literally bottom 3 I think. NOBODY wins with him because he's too hard to pick for even regular players
Exactly. I've even had every person in my main group of Tekken friends go through the same experience of "you only win cos Steve is OP anyone can win with him cos he's always safe" then they try him and give up after 2-3 days and don't say a word about losing to him anymore.
For a character conceptually focused around counter hits, T8 seemed to remove a lot of counter hit rewards from him. I do get they probably want a poke, pressure, and grounded style out of Steve (boxer) but it currently pales even to his own archetype. IMO, as long as T8 brings back most of the shiro properties, sonic fang launch on heat, and other ways to LH cancel even with subpar damage output will put him back to the top. Just let him strike fear to the opponents with a bag of counter hits.
It sad when you look at the potential Steve had in the cracked version, he genuinely looked like he would’ve fit into the roster way more than his release version
Steve was the first character I tried in Tekken 8 and it really gave me the wrong impression of their balancing approach for this game He's had to make all sorts of concessions in exchange for even the most minor buffs while the top tiers all just get significantly bigger buffs with next to no drawbacks
He's just another flowchart mixupish character not a counterhit character. Such a shame I swear everyday i play steve it just gets worse man. Why no difficult wall combo anymore why no tiny combo from df 2 shiro counterhit why emphasises his weaknesses more while nerfing his strengths even further than ever before. And dont forget they did all of this in a game where almost everyone is busted or the best theyve ever beeen with just crazy one hit death buttons and superpowers in heat. Theres so much wrong with steve compared to the rest of the cast just from a fundamental design standpoint (domt get me started on that botox face) that i feel like they either wont fix him or if they do itll take years. I dont mind him being weak at all but dumbing down his gameplay and taking away his character gameplay identity as a counterhit puncher is just sad.
Considering he was at one point probably the strongest character in the franchise and maybe even one of the best in fighting games in general they probably walk on egg shells whenever they give him any sort of power nowadays
Thing is, he was only super strong in T5. T6 had a lot of other characters stronger than him. T7 is just Feng, King and Akuma bonanza if we're honestly speaking.
I didn't even play Tekken til t5 and the only way I began to understand the game, was by using Steve(this was early early RU-vid days). He was kinda op, but I couldn't really use anyone else. Now I'm kinda screwed, who should I try instead? Also I hate the heat system.
I think the funniest one is when you don't even get the second sonic fang hit as a guaranteed followup. You didn't have to let it convert into a launch but can't I at least spend my heat to get another followup??
my honeymoon phase with tekken 8 is done, and now i just dont want to play the game every other game has the shittiest connection ever, the inability to play longer sets after the bo3 and in player match, balancing leaves a lot to be desired, and much more i hope they fix it, but at this point i think i would have more fun playing t7
He's not even the CH paragon. He needs a little loving. I'd like to see him in heat as have access to more CH tools and to also have a longer heat mode than most, or have CH give him heat back. What's he the paragon of? Paragon down the toilet
Tbh Steve mains have been having it easy since 2000 and the one time Steve was below A-tier (which is the arcade version of Tekken 6) didn't last long.
Hopefully after evo they patch his face and voice too, even if they buff him he’s still maybe the most unappealing character in the game when he used to be one of the coolest
imagine having a stance SOOO BAD that it actually makes every single move that leads you into this travesty unuseable even his damn heat move. everybody in this game uses their heat move an is just fine or on the other side of the planet while steve gets launch punished if you can’t do the single most crazy stance cancel input his heat move is sui cidal
There are actually MORE nerfs you did not mention! This is what pisses me off about this community, they didn't take away his B1 and gave him a new shitter mixup which just looks cool and everyone is saying he's still good. They don't know absolutely anything about Steve in Tekken7 and the amount of nerfs he got. I wish you could make another video about Steve nerfs but this time Mention EVERYTHING that was better in Tekken7 starting from something simple like how many wallsplat moves they took away, how many CH launchers, the lower damage, nerfs like sonic fang df2 gatling gun flk b2 etc
Not to forget, they ruined his face, they ruined his voice, his personality, he doesnt seem to shut up yet tells Hwoarang to shut up in their intro, his RA voice line is TERRIBLE. He's wearing a f**king tight Choker like pitbulls and egirls its very homosexual, who tf wears chokers??
Who would've thought giving Steve a new stance would nerf the character. They really pushed his Lionheart stance onto us. Bummer cuz i wanted to pick up steve this time around
I’m a T8 noob and Steve is the character I’ve been learning. This video makes me so sad haha. I can’t believe how much cooler he was in previous games.
This makes me think that they wanted Steve to be mainly a wall pressure character with all the changes from his launchers being shit but near the wall is rewarding. On one hand I think this is cool it gives steve some identity in game that’s mostly rushdown but I feel sorry for the Steve players that played him in other games used to his old game plan now need to adapt use this new one. Edit: literally if they just let him have one launcher and a CH launcher I don’t think people would complain as much but rn he’s so weak compared to the rest of the cast people say Leroy is the weakest but he has some cheap stuff. Can Steve be considered the weakest character rn or am I tripping?
Steve has always been good at cornering opponents and applying pressure. In Tekken 8, he's still a rushdown character, but with less damage overall. You're forced to use a stance in difficult situations, and you can't cancel it. In T7, with thousands of hours of experience, I can say that Steve felt limited against other characters. Many characters had "cheap" tools like df+2 launchers (easy damage and combos), which were hard to punish. Steve, on the other hand, had riskier launchers and required timing to punish with CH launchers. This require a lot of work and experience to master his playstyle. Additionally, most of the cast has good pokes (high, mid, low), while Steve only has high and mids. Steve's lows are slow and are only used after well-placed CH launchers and pressure. Despite his limitations, Steve's versatility allowed him to deal with most of the cast. T8 Steve is no longer as versatile as in previous installments imo. He is not the weakest in the cast, but he requires more time and effort to win. It takes more work and experience to master his playstyle, because he no longer has abusive tools. Leroy has suffered a similar fate to Steve, but he has tools that Steve doesn't. In T7, Leroy could be played almost on autopilot, but in T8, you have to work harder to win.
I know namco wanted him to be THE CH specialist but they just removed every other tool other than b1 if they just kept sonic fang rage properties while in heat it would be so much better since he will be rewarded more for landing certain moves also the fact that you can power crush lionheart is bullshit
The lion heart stance is very cool to to watch but it is actually a fake pressure, the need to fix him as soon as possible I can’t play TEKKEN anymore 💔
Its funny cuz he already has a 2 break and 1+2 break throw out the box, like yeah its reactable but many arent good at reacting to each, but no just give him a 50/50 anyways
Apparently it was an unintentional combo they never saw in TK7 testing, so i guess theyd say they removed it on that principle, but its also prolly cuz they wanted to lower steves skill ceiling cuz apparently thats cool
@@gigaturok oh yeah they definitely saw it when TK7 came out, and prolly did it moreso to nerf steves damage,i just think its kinda sad cuz it removes some skill expression, it also looked cool
Just like Kaz unfortunately. I hope they both get some deserved buffs in the big patch of May. Otherwise I'm seriously considering quitting this horrible, unenjoyable and uncreative mess of a game..
@@tristanherb49 I don't know him well tbh. Doesn't he still have the b1 ch, decent jab pressure and throw game as well as good heat (better than Kaz at least)?
df2 played alot in tekken 7, now its just a move that exists that doesnt need to exist. i feel like they should fixe his stances especially going from move to move, b1,2 should be standard but if holding diag up left should change it to lion heart, and forward should be PAB, hes just not fun to use anymore, not to mention one of the hardest characters to play, with such a sad damage ratio
Im a Steve purest, and Ill still play him, but you have to work a lot with him now to get damage and the W. I dont personally like how many of his moves transition into Lionheart and how the risk/reward is absolute shit for him. If his forward ducking 2 launcher had a buff where it was safe on block or reset neutral then maybe it would help. And Steve isnt easy to learn, he has a technical skill gap that requires time to perfect, but its hard to want to do that when hes not strong.
silly take these are two different games . Now you have to account for all the wacky screws double wall splats and heat mechanics , he doesn’t need to do a million dmg on 1 combo
He honestly shouldn't have even been put in tekken 8, the system and tone they're going for is one Steve can't be apart of because they want super aggressive play rather than pepper with jabs and punches to lead to a counter hit
I used to main Steve in T7, loved how he played but unfortunately his playstyle didn't fit me after spending hundreds of hours on him. It's so sad to see he's a former shell of himself, I hear he's not top tier no more, but atleast keep the fun stuff with him, the shiro combo was what set Steve players apart.
the worst part is the lion heart stance, cannot be cancelled, nearly launch punishable if they block the string that transition u into that and can be beaten by powercrush move even if u hit them lmao! I like Steve so much but they really ruin him in this game.
The thing that makes me most sad is they took away the combo tool version of duck f2. That felt so fun to execute in a match. Steve combos used to be fun 😢
Counter-Punching Paragon more like Counter-Punching are Gone 😂. sorry for being late 3 month to watching this amazing video. they allowing us to cancel LNH Stance now but they don't giving us proper CH tool. also it's just not fair not allowing us to launch RA like before, i mean we all know Steve doesn't had good punishment especially launcher punishment but we blessed with a best CH tool in the game, well I'm talking about Steve on previous game of course 😂. now what things they should fix for Steve T8, and not making Steve too OP cause everyone's gonna cry if Steve too OP. here's the list : - Fix B1 recovery. just like before they adding 3 more frames recovery of Steve B1. - Fix DF2. if they giving us Shiro Combo back then it's okay if DF2 is not homing move but if they don't give Shiro Combo back, well at least make DF2 back to Homing again, at least we had mid homing move. - Buff QCF 2, this stupid move is -i18 on block. on hit or CH it's only +2. please make it at least -12 or -13 on block cause the reward and the risk is not worth it. also if that move was still -18 on block, then allowed us to combo on CH. - Fix B4/3 2 a.k.a Snake Charmer hit box. back on T7 that move will punish or even CH some high string, but on T8 punishing high string with that move somehow it will whiff. - Fix B2 or give us i18 move standing launcher punish. as you guys know Steve B2 doesn't do launcher anymore. so does it too much to ask for i18 standing launcher move? - Fix Recovery frame of FC DF2, PAB UF2. i know there will be someone who doesn't agree me with this one. but why those move is still -15 on block, why not -14 or -13 like everyone else. - Buff Sonic Fang Heat Dash. it should allowing us to combo like most Character, cause since recovery from ground is getting buffed so we can't do PAB D2 as follow-up anymore for some damage. - Add FLK Low attack option. i know it's ridiculous but i think if FLK has Low attack that would be cool. so yeah, those just my list and i know maybe it's too much to ask but i think it's fair 😂.
