Peter Warrick is one of the greatest open field runners I've ever seen. Incredible first step! I'm so glad that he'd doing well as he's a really good person. I'm a huge Peter Warrick fan so thanks for posting this. No one had a chance at Cincinnati with that awful QB situation.
kitna and palmer were both decent warrick hurt his knee and wasnt a #1 reciever even in college he played in the slot combined with the fact its harder to do what he did in the nfl than college based on the average athlete on the other team. Chad Johnson and tj hous... were able to become good nfl wide recievers with the bengals qb's
he could have been a very productive slot receiver if he was still healthy when the bengals got good but i thinks its just as much that he was a slot receiver expected to produce as a #1 without other good wr's around him(fsu had better wr's than the bengals).
Peter was an absolute beast in college! I remember him. Big time receiver. And I remember the incident with the clothes at Dillard’s too. Great job on your research in his NFL career. Thanks for the upload.
Laveranues Coles (BEAST) was the other player arrested and he got kicked off the team (10 yr NFL. 1 pro bowl). That same year Tory Holt had 1600 plus yards at NC State. Same year. Same conference and STILL Warrick had that crazy buzz. 💯
You're right! Pete and Reggie had a first step that left crowds in awe. They could juke a dude in a phone booth. The only guy I see doing that today is McCaffrey from San Fran and ironically, Reggie Bush was/is McCaffrey's idol.
I remember ESPN showing the surveillance video footage of Warrick and his teammate Laveranues Coles at the register buying the clothes for $21. Coles was dismissed from the team because that wasn't his first time getting in trouble while Warrick was suspended for three games. Coles went on to have a successful 10 plus year NFL career with the Jets, Redskins and Bengals.
I remember that also, they need to give that man his heisman…We beat Vick and Frank Beamers VT in the national championship,Warrick was snubbed of the heisman cause the clothing store incident
Matt... Look into Willie Williams. He was the TOP LB recruit in the nation from Carol City High School in Miami. Crazy unhinged dude who ended up in prison
He is by far the most elusive WR in college football, EVER!! Late 90s college football were glory days, if you have someone you think was more electric, I'd love to hear it!
Sidenote: He really was never the same after that knee injury. He was never the fastest in the first place, but that injury took after away a lot of his elusiveness
"One of the most elusive receivers in college football" is not even a question. He's arguably "THE MOST" elusive players in college football history and he is one of the greatest college football players of all time
@@danielm5908 gtfooh! Reggie Bush was one of the best college football players of all time! You lost your privileges to even speak on the topic smh 🤦♂️
I took my daughter to a Bengals training camp practice. The players filed out and some made their way to where the fans were at, behind an orange and black rope. Peter Warrick, came out with a huge smile, laughing and joking, talking to the fans. He made his way to my daughter and shook her hand, he asked her name and asked don’t you have anything for me to sign? She said she didn’t bring anything. Told her to come back and he would personally find her and sign whatever she brought. Before he left, he told her listen, do well in school, respect your teachers, and listen to your parents and you’ll do well in life. Just an amazing young man. I have nothing but respect for him.
I think he was a wide receiver that was ahead of his time or played in the wrong era. Smaller wide receivers had a harder time succeeding back then with the style of offenses NFL teams had and the defense rules pre-2004
What I remember most about Peter Warrick is that he was the first wide receiver picked in that draft but the top two picks, a defensive end and an inside linebacker ran faster 40 times and they were teammates (Courtney Brown and Lavar Arrington). Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going off old man memory here.
@@blankname6629 if you're on a team the other players on that team with you are your teammates. But I understand what you mean they didn't actually get to play games together.
Laveranes Coles the other receiver caught getting the discount went on to having a much better college career and was actually the first player who shouted out his high school on Monday Night football instead of FSU.
If you’re under 35 you might not know but this dude was a fn stud, the national championship game was hyped to the max with Michael Vick playing QB for Virginia Tech. I still can’t believe he didn’t pan out in the pros but in college, he was a stud
he was a stud in college but he was a slot reciever not a true #1 wide reciever who lined up outside most of the time combined with the athletes in the nfl are a lot better than college and its not really surprising
The early 2000 Bengals had bad coaching, bad quarterback play and bad ownership. Y'all remember when Cincinnati was petitioning for Mike Brown to sell the franchise it was around this same time.
He lost his burst by the time he got to the NFL. He ran like 4.5 or 4.6 @ the combine. The bangles also drafted chad Johnson & TJ houzmanzada the next season...
He tried to put on weight before the more science based strength and conditioning coaches of today it slowed him down. If he had our current S&C coach he would be able to do it
Peter Warrick was a Generational Talent. The Pros is a different Story , Talent and athletic ability Can’t overcome Lack Work ethic & Dedication to your Craft.
Please do Royce Freeman while at Oregon, I know he is in the league now, but I just find his story at Oregon especially being paired with Marcus Mariota was such an electric time for Oregon
One of the best college wide receivers ever. Peter Ward was a certified star. Just electric. Gave you Goosebumps in real time, you just had to be there.
Led his HS to b2b state titles at QB and He was Mr. Basketball for Florida his senior year of HS (blue chip status PG) wild. His highlight tape is what I used to watch growing up alongside Desmond Howard and Reggie’s. Definitely top 5 CFB player of all time.
Love your channel, especially your Peter Ward coverage. Just wanted to give you some context from an old head and huge Peter Warwick fan here. I watched all those seasons you highlighted, and yeah, his average yards per catch were pretty pedestrian. But here’s some context your video might be missing, though you probably already know this. I’ll get right to the point. Ward caught so many screen passes that either went for one yard or lost yards because he was trying to be elusive. The Bengals’ offensive line and quarterback weren’t giving him any help, but that happens sometimes. Great players rise above, but because of his stature-coming in at like 5’10”, just under six feet-he was in an offense that didn’t maximize his potential. In a system similar to the Pittsburgh Steelers’, he could’ve been Antonio Brown. That’s what he should’ve been. But because the schemes were so different in the late 90s and early 2000s, the best innovation they really had were slants and screen passes. And being on the Bengals at that time, those plays often went for lost yardage. So, there you have it.
As a lifelong cinnamon roll fan, thank you for putting this together. I love learning about the legends that I never got to see play. Also, attempt 2 to get a video about Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee made
I went to high school with Peter Warrick. As spectacular of a football player as he was, you should’ve seen him play basketball. Amazing point guard. Great leader on the court. Led the team to a 35-0 state title his senior year. He could’ve gone to any division 1 school in the country and been an amazing point guard. I was very surprised how his NFL career turned out. I thought he would be one of the elite NFL players with a long career. Still one of the best athletes I’ve ever seen
This seems like a simple case of not everyone’s great college talent translates to making a big mark in the NFL. Good on him he didn’t let the hype get him down about his NFL career. Side note, this is one of the only college players I actually followed when I was a kid.
Lavarneus Coles was that teammate. He went on to be successful and played years for the NY Jets. Peter Warrick turned out pretty good also. Creekside was A VERY VERY GOOD TEAM FOR yrs.. I live in Fairburn Ga
I was in 8th grade when Peter Warrick was at FSU.. to this day I tell kids he’s my favorite player and they have no idea who he is. Peter Warrick was the truth.
I remember Peter Warrick because of the 1998 National Championship game. Tennessee held him to 1 catch for 9 yards and Tennessee WR, Peerless Price, went off.
Tennessee had a good defense. It was more about Mark Richt never tried to scheme to get him the ball more which still baffles FSU fans to this day. That along with the fact we were playing a third string QB that couldn’t pass the ball didn’t help.
@@RayPetty-ho9wi That last part... to have even hung around in that game (I was even wishing Dan Kendra hadn't gotten hurt at times during the season LOL) was a borderline miracle. Had Weinke been healthy, we win that game going away.
Peter Warrick was a legend at a great era of college football. Man that Dillard's play was the shit. Lol. I stayed fresh because my girl worked at Dillard's back in 99-00' and never got caught. Lol
Still to this day I remember him! What a player I thought he was going to be like moss in the NFL but it didn't happened but still to this day one the greatest and most electrifying college players ever
I used to watch every game just to see him shake everybody. He lost the Heisman over some Polo clothes that L. Coles girlfriend gave them a crazy discount on!
Going to the Bengals is why it didn't work out. The Bengals, Browns, and Lions were the worst teams to get stuck with at that time. I'm glad all 3 are doing better now.
Peter "P-Dub" Warrick, was absolute offensive favorite college player ever. In ability i think he might be top 3 college receiver of all time. An absolute stud. Wish his pro career panned out like it was projected.
Can you do Arizona States victory over Nebraska in 1996 and missing the national championship title by a narrow margin in a loss to Ohio State in that years rose bowl? Pat Tillman and Jake Plummer were apart of that legendary team
Yea Peter Warrick still that dude...To this day there's not a WR like him...maybe Tavon Austin. You should do Quincy Carter, Freddie Milons, Champ Bailey or Lawrence Phillips....
@mattbegreat!!!! Marcus Tuiasosopo deserves a video about him. If you go back to the early 2000s and you look up a dominant team a lot of people overlook that Rose bowl champion team. But they were beasts they beat Purdue and the Rose bowl and they were overlooked and could have been one of the finalists for the national championship that year but if that doesn't entice you then what about a video on Kodi Pickett and Reggie Williams I don't think those two get enough credit for what a dynamic duo they were . Who won the pac-12 doesn't get enough credit as it is so I think you would be doing the pac-12 and pack 12 fence by doing a video on those three players. But really you could toss in Rich Alexis
