I just added the same comment before seeing yours. Hopefully he’ll do it. The Canadiens have made great trades over the years (this one, the danault one, even trading plekanec for a 2nd then signing him again was a good trade) but everyone just remembers the Gomez one or the Drouin one (which at the time didn’t seem too bad)

1 year later, this has aged like fine wine. Hanifin has 43 pts in 75 games and is a top pairing 2 way dman. Kylington is a top 4 dman with 29 pts in 67 games in his first full season with strong defensive metrics Lindholm is getting Selke discussions and has 39 goals and 78 pts in 76 games. Boston COULD have had Konecny, Boeser Barzal, Connor, Chabot, Aho, Larsson, or Samsonov at that 15th pick. So the flames dodged a bit of the bullet there, but to Bruins fans, you could have had three of any of them with those three straight 2015 first rounders.

I've got another "little deal" that eventually resulted in the Bruins winning the cup in 2011. -Bruins traded Kyle McLaren and a 4th to Sharks for Jeff Hackett and Jeff Jillson - Bruins trade Jeff Jillson in 3 way trade, get Brad Boyes - Bruins trade Brad Boyes to Blues for Dennis Wideman - Bruins trade Dennis Wideman with 1st and 3rd to Panthers for Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell In case you dont know, Horton and Campbell were both on the Bruins cup winning team, and Horton especially was a huge contributor. Calgary was going to lose Fox as they had drafted him almost 2 drafts earlier and he told Calgary multiple times he was not going to sign. So much like Tim Erixon before him, Calgary HAD to trade him or they would have lost him for nothing. Unlike the Tim Erixon deal, however, the Flames made out like bandits on trading Fox. Hamilton was an odd duck who didn't fit in with either Boston OR Calgary. He's ok but the story I heard was while the Flames were on the road, while they going out to dinners together, team building, etc he preferred to go off and do his own thing alone. Not good for building chemistry with your team. Lindholm and Hanifin are good young players signed long term in Calgary. I don't care how good Fox will be, Calgary did VERY WELL getting rid of Glencross who they weren't bringing back anyway.

Flames won all of the deals. Glencross was terrible at the end of his tenure with Calgary, he was unplayable. Kylington shows a lot of promise, especially playing under a guy like Giordano. Hamilton had great offensive moments but his defensive lapses made me want to rip my hair out, he just didn't get it. Seemed like every goal that was scored against us, you'd watch the replay and Hamilton would be way out of position. Ferland was the same as Glencross/Brouwer/Neal/Lucic big body that should be in front of the net but the game is changing so much that he's not as valuable, so turning him into a 30 goal scorer is a MAJOR WIN. Hanifin is still young and he isn't on an insane contract that lots of young players are getting nowadays so if he can just continue to develop and bring a level of consistency, then you'd love that.

I think that tree lasted until 2016 (even after the original Jets franchise moved to Arizona in 1996) on the Jets/Coyotes side of the tree. The trade was: Dale Hawerchuk + WPG's 1st round pick in 1990 (which became Brad May) to Buffalo for Phil Housley, Scott Arniel, Jeff Parker, and BUF's 1st round pick in 1990 (which became Keith Tkachuk).

I hope there will be a trade tree episode that will put the Capitals in the better light. Every team makes at least one bad trade in their history, but as a fan, I feel the Glencross and Erat trades should not define our team identity. The Capitals have made excellent trades in their history. Trading for Langway saved our team from leaving DC, while acquiring Oshie helped lead us to our very first Cup win. Yet when casual fans (and Yinzer Penguins fans) think of a trade the Capitals made, it's always one of those awful trades, and I absolutely hate it when Yinzers use that to crack "Ha Ha, Cleveland Browns" low hanging fruit jokes at us. Context: the Cleveland Browns are a football team based in Cleveland, Ohio, and since their return to the NFL in 1999, have been a laughing stock cause of how inept the front office is at building a team, which in turn contributes to losses, draft busts, and a lot of jokes. Everyone and their grandmother makes Browns jokes, but some Yinzers (residents of Allegheny County, where Pittsburgh is located) have a hard-on for laughing at the Browns at every turn, since their hometown Steelers are rivals of the Browns, and until recently, have been the Steelers' favorite punching bag.

I think you should do the Jordon Stall trade from Pittsburgh to Carolina. Odd trade. Jordan wanted to play in Carolina in his bother. He was 1 year away from UFA and he didn't want to sign the 10 year $60 million dollar extension with the Pens, so they traded him with 1 year left to the Canes. Where he signed the same contract. Pittsburgh got back Dumolin and the parts that ended up helping Pittsburgh trade for 2/3 of the HBK (Haglin-Bonino-Kessel) line.

This will probably get lost in the comments, but I attempted to make my own Mike Richards trade tree and discovered that it involves guys like Schenn, Simmonds, Guentzel, Pitlick, Grant, Morrow, and smaller pieces in the Seguin and Taylor Hall deals. I have the whole tree written down as accurate as I could make it if Steve or anyone from Sportsnet wants to take a look at it.

Oliver kylington never gets ice time in Calgary. They play guys like Michael stone and Derek forbort over him. He’s never had the chance to get going and is worried about every mistake he makes because he’ll get scratched the next game if he doesn’t play perfect. He is also clearly too good for the AHL as he went down for 3 games last year and was a point per game. And scored 7 goals 7 assist for 14 points in 18 games the year before.

Calgary easily won the Glencross trade since it basically turned into Kylington, and Glencross did jackshit for Capitals. Their stanley cup win was not as a result of this trade at all, and hindered their future technically though its not likely either of the picks turns into a star or anything. And Calgary in my opinion won the Canes-Flames trade, since they got two possible stars and Canes got one. Hamilton is imo a better player than Lindholm and Hanifin, at least this past season, but I'd rather have Hanifin and Lindholm.

Seems a little rough to completely overlook Adin Hill being the draft pick that went to Arizona. He's still young, but looks like he could have a bright future as a 3rd Round Goalie

Not bad given Curtis Glencross retired after that season. He was a great Calgary Flames player for most of his time in Calgary.

How about Larry Murphy from Minnesota to Pittsburgh? Especially with those teams playing for the cup that season in an unlikely scenario

Lindholm, Hanifin, and Kylington who is now his defense partner, are all lights out for the Flames now. This was a really good trade for the Flames and I didn't realize it started with the Glencross trade

For what it's worth, Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson would always hit 60+ goals in NHL 17
