How the Abrams is Changing Poland’s Tank Force 

Status for August 1st: - all capable T-72M1 and M1Z are in Ukraine - unspecified number of PT-91's is in Ukraine, rest will be sent when replacement tanks come - additional 116 M1A1SA will arrive in 2023, later to be upgraded to SEPv3 - 200 K2 from ROK army reserves bought to fill the gap left by PT-91's planed to be sent to Ukraine, later to be upgraded to K2PL standard if possible - planed production of 800+ K2PL to rebuild armored force from before the peacetime reduction and retirement of all remaining Leopard 2's - frame agreements signed for various purchases from Koreans, development and further production of K2PL

Most of the T72 in poland have disappeared in there storage units I wonder were they went

I loved serving with the Poles on NATO exercises in Germany. Really enthusiastic troops who really wanted to be as involved as possible in NATO. They'll make really good use of Abrams tanks.

one thing, Poland don have t72 somebody stole them, the police were notified, first it was said that 100 were missing, now it is said that all functional ones are missing about 180. In addition, thieves stole tons of ammunition and modern thermal imaging equipment for these tanks. the search continues

The Polish armour corps must have very interesting perspective on the relative strengths and weaknesses of T 72s, Leopards and Abrams tanks.

When I was in Poland with the tank units they had integrated a troop carrier that the polish lady said was called the wolverine. Shit made me jealous as a medic, 360 degree exterior cameras, 4 stretchers with room for more, and you could walk down they aisle without hitting shit. God the m113 is such ass, I hated working in that thing

FAQ: 1. Poland is sending Ukraine about 200 T-72M1s. We held off on mentioning this because it’s unclear how many will come from storage, but it’s possible this means Poland is dumping all of its unupgraded T-72M1s. 2. Poland will not have Challenger 2s. If Britain sends over Chalengers to fill the gap of T-72s, they will be manned by Brits. You can pronounce "Twardy" With V like in "Very", so it will be Closer to proper polish pronounciation. Twardy could mean hard, unbreakable or vigorous. Probably all could work

Fielding so many different models of tanks must be a logistical nightmare. Just imagine all the different incompatible spare parts are in their workshops. Keeping all those different tanks moving would be a herculean effort.

If anyones wondering why we have so many tanks models - that's because the most of leopards were bought in a one time ocassion so to say, tanks + Migs in a pack, and since then there simply wasnt anything similar. That's the reason why we have leopard 2 ver 4 and 5 - the 4's are from that mass purchase and are being improved where the 5's are the later ones. I dont think there is a great leopard market right now, since the german army needs them badly to recover from years of funds cut. Going further PT91 isn't just a variant of t-72, more like improved platform, that still use enough similar parts not to stretch logistics too much. It was made before leopards purchase, since we saw our t-72 as not ideal but couldnt just buy new tanks back then. The PT-91 have much more modernisation potential, do you can say they are ours "first candidate" in any new tank upgarde programs. And to the Abrams - they are mostly a politically driven decision, to tighten ties with USA. Since they are a big burden on logistic as a totally new MBT type. Big part in this all is played by the changing directions for Polish forces dependent on who wins elections. That's why we have many sources of tank forces. The left-center is more pro smaller elite army with a ton (up to a milion) reserve and territorial deffence units, and dont have too much love for tanks, just some modernisation pack + going the ifv/apc way instead, mostly german wehicles (so basically less spending now, to have more cash for future army reconstruction) where the hard libertarians with "right" wing (its complicated but the right guys ofthen are more left than the so called left and put deal with some radical-ish right to keep the face in front of voters) are more about large professional army with wide tanks modernisation programs and much equipment from USA, including new wehicles, even if they are coming out as quite expensive.

I've said it just about everywhere I've seen Poland's purchase of Abrams being discussed and I'll say it here. There needs to be the option to buy a set of wings for each vehicle. As for the purchase itself, it does make sense for the Poles to learn how to drive Leopards, Abrams, and T-72s. Learn your allies' tanks and learn your enemy's tanks.

I've been into Polish Army since 2014, and man, even I have problems with clearing this shitstorm in my mind, and you are the foreigner without knowledge of polish language. That's why I have the authority to truly appreciate your hard work, that you had to commit to show that clearly. Also, I am happy you didn't comment the logistics of that - no commentary needed ;) When every division will have only 1 tank type it will be acceptible, until them - just don't think about it :D +But you could add, that 150-250 T-72 suddenly dissapeard, and somehow somebody started using T-72s, they could probably buy them in any T-72 store ;) And now there is a chance to fill the gap with Leo 2s from Rheinmetall and KMW storage, and that would be good (but germans are too venomous to allow that, I mean the politicians) The reason why PT-91s are next to Lithuania is because there is a lot of water there, in Mazuria, lakes and mud, and those tanks are the lightest. Abrams are on the right side of VIstula river you know why (70 tones, too heavy for our bridges, even the military ones). Anyway, great material

Yeah. Its worth of mention that BWP-1 will be replaced by BWP Borsuk that is in end stage of development right now. Project have started in 2013 and as of last week four prototypes were ordered for frist real field tests, in adition for one that already egsisting. Order for serial vehicals (depending on army test resoults) will probibly be placed in mid 2023 whit at least 588 unit in based IFV version expected to be deliverd up to 2035. That number is likly to changed. Production of 50 IFV variant was expected before war in Ukraine. Now however more and more officials are saying that it will be arund 100 pices of base variant IFV yearly...

Spoke to some Polish tankies during a range package and got eyes on their Twardy tank, and let me just say they are very excited to be getting the Abrams and I can see why. Good guys too, it was good chatting to them.

Good to see both the Polish upgrading their own tank forces, and putting the ones they're retiring to good use.

Do a video about general modernization of Polish army. Got a few interesting programs in the oven with regard to heavy armour, IFV, air / missile defense modernization and navy modernization. Next decade will drastically transform the PL fighting force.

Thank you for going through how each level of organization gets larger while still keeping the smaller units in mind. This makes it much easier to follow for keeping track of how much manpower and how many vehicles there are without feeling like you're reading (or trying to read) the MCRP. After reviewing the previous video, I think the difference between this one and the last is that in this one you seem to cover units which are attached to the main force as you go up rather than in the previous video where you seem to review the main force going up in size and then go down in size for the attached units before going back up for the next highest level of main forces. Perhaps this is due to the semi ad-hoc nature of the subject in the previous video vs the more formal subject in this video, but if it is possible to copy the structure in this video going forward, then I'm sure it would be well received. Also, good job on maintaining a visual continuity when moving between levels of organization, such as between tank battalions and brigades.

As far as I know, Leopard 2s are also planned to be withdrawn from active service in the Polish Army by a winner of the Wilk Program. Instead, Leopards will be placed in strategic reserve.

Former Abrams Commander here, I was totally unaware of this! These are basically a heavily armed insurance policy for Europe. I can't wait to watch a Polish Gunnery and see how different it is from ours! I'm so excited for you, Poland! The Russians are absolutely terrified of the Abrams specifically. This is going to be a huge deal for GDLS, their current manufacturer.

I think variety is always a good thing. The more diverse the tanks are at your disposal, the more difficult it is for the enemy to formulate a plan against it. Of course, there are always negatives to this, like procuring parts for all those different kinds of tanks for the purpose of repairing & fixing damaged ones.

With logistics, maintenance know-how and existing infrastructure in mind, Leo 2A5/6/7 would be better choice for PL than M1 but... Germany refused to sell more Leos 2, Germany and France also refused Poland participation in new European MBT project... so Poland had to seek alternatives. That being said, M1 SEP3 is very capable machine. I wonder how good could be data linking between M1, F-35, F-16 and (potentially) AH-1Z.

I remember when the PL-01 was a thing a couple years ago, some people even thought it was capable of fighting the armata XD even though it was just a mock up based on the CV90120. I believe the project was most likely cancelled considering theres no news about it.

It will be really badass to see M1 Abram tanks with Polish emblems, excellent tank choice by Poland in my opinion.

i was at the training area with armored cav, mostly handing out fuel, but both the us and polish took it pretty seriously. it was a cool sight to see. i was back at the barracks a few miles away the next day during the live fire and there was constant booms for hours. our colonel gave me a coin, and the polish 4 star general gave me one too during the AAR.

Always pay attention and respect Poland's position on world stability and military action in Eastern Europe. They saw first hand in World War 2 what war brings and then spent the next several decades subjugated by their "rescuers/ally" in the Soviets. They know from experience about the Russians and war in general. That's why their strong support for Ukraine makes its obvious which side is the right one.

Logistic challenges, yes. In exchange, most tank commanders have experience in operating 2 different MBT platforms, some even 4 and they are often participating in the international exercises. Opportunities for development of national tank tactics, deep knowledge of strong and week aspects of many tanks (on the battlefield and in exploitation). That's advantage.

The first change will be logistics. That begs the question if the Polish military can support the use, repair, and training of their M1 Abrams units.

Don't forget about the challengers. About 3 days ago the British announced that they plan to provide Poland with Challenger 2's to supplement the transfer of T72's and possibly some Twardy's to Ukraine.

The PT91 Twardy is a much better tank then the T72B. It has much more modern fire control systems and better sights.

The mix mash of types is a logistical problem. Incompatible Spares, ammo and inter operability of crews make for expensive issues

Australia has the M1 abram variant too. It keeps the gas turbine but ours use diesel as the tank fuel as it is capable of multifuel. Does the Leopard and PT-91 use diesel also and would the Polish forces use diesel in their Abrams to simplify logistics ?
