You McCartney bass people are all the same, every single baseline is underrated , what’s next to you gonna say his baseline on Julia is so underrated? By the way the baseline on kite is a great but standard rock baseline any bass player could do the exact same thing.
@rubix187
@rubix187 2 года назад
@@jwt208 Julia? Lmao. I’m not gonna say every one of Paul’s basslines were a gift from the heavens but I acknowledge that he’s able to give a song the bassline it needs. My favorite bass parts from Paul are Mr. Kite, Rain and Hey Bulldog. It may be true that bass players could play Mr. Kite but Since every bass player has their own particular fingerprint, I don’t think they would have composed it with the same bounciness and fills that Paul did. If Flea, Bootsy Collins or Jack Bruce had played on Mr. Kite instead, it wouldn’t be the same. As a matter of fact, Jack Bruce’s bassline on World of Pain is one that is comparable to Mr. Kite given that it’s not only providing rhythm but also melody. But likewise, if Paul played on World of Pain, it just wouldn’t have the same feel.

When I was a child, instead of stories about knights and monsters etc, my dad would sometimes tell me stories of how the Beatles made their music and albums. I liked the Beatles even at a young age, so it was enjoyable to hear about them even then, but it's cool to hear some of these stories again after so long, like "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" (that was one of my favorites as a child, along with the story of how they came up with/ made "A Day in the Life", or "She Said She Said").

I've been lucky to see John's poster in the Liverpool Museum... as well as a few other Pablo Fanque posters in my own home city of Sheffield to celebrate the Circus 250 events... where Pablo Fanque's (William Darby b Norwich 1810) last circus performance was before he retired from the circus business and settle down with his wife Susannah, from Sheffield. I'm sure Mr. Darby would be smiling down onto John's cloud in heaven knowing it was John's doing that made him culturally relevant today. William Darby did benefits for retiring circus acts all the time (it was one of his trademarks)... in the Circus 250 I saw one that read "For the Benefit of Bowman", and I was elated to see the Mr Kite one about a few months later as this year started... I also remember reading at Circus 250 that Pablo Fanque (William Darby) was the P.T Barnum of the UK (even before Barnum made it big), he was quite the celebrity of his time. also as a side note I saw John's work in progress for "Being for the Benefit of Mr Kite" in the Liverpool Museum, and the lyrics "The Celebrated Mr. K performs his feat on Saturday" were originally going to be "performing twice on Saturday".

“McCartney actually wrote this with John”... McCartney was asked specifically about this song in reference to its sole authorship by John in 1977 and he didn’t challenge it at the time. In 2013 he has this story about him and John writing this together. Remember he has claimed to have completely written the melody to “In My Life”. Like John would just hand over the lyrics to Paul and let Paul write the music to such a personal song... That’s highly suspect in and of itself... But he has been shown to be wrong about In My Life. Advanced Bags-Of-Words modeling and other statistical analysis has shown that Paul had no substantial authorship Of In My Life. I could see how Mr. Kite could be a collaboration but I also see how it is most likely “All Lennon”. It does have more “wider intervals” than most of Lennon’s songs but he has on occasion used wider intervals on songs known and confirmed by both to be Lennon songs. Lennon tends to have less deviation and wider intervals than McCartney. But both men make good use of “accidentals”. And the leaps and intervals in Mr. Kite are not huge... Not as noticeable as in a song like Michelle where the intervals are all over the place. This is probably why Lennon’s songs have a more “conversational” tone than McCartney’s. Incidentally Lennon wrote a greater percentage of Beatle’s songs than McCartney... By a wide margin... I love both writers equally but one should understand that human testimony is highly suspect... For example Lennon has given Paul some credit for In My Life... But he was most likely mistaken in that memory. “The Word” is generally attributed to John but the above mentioned analysis shows that it’s a 100% McCartney composition. So the analysis cuts both ways.
@Jasperi

maybe your analysis is just bad

The bag of words hasn't been verified to be true or accurate for any other song. Statistics require some sort of verifiable process and must be proven to be accurate for many other occurrences not just one song. How has the study been independently verified to be accurate by other means other than itself? Otherwise in my life is very clearly entirely a Paul McCartney melody. The repeated octave rhyming and lyric beats are only found in his songs. And the chord progression is almost identical to obla di obla da with the D and fm transposed with each other

John & Paul collaborated on each other’s songs throughout the time the Beatles were together. “For the Benefit of Mr. Kite” is not unusual that Paul helped in creating it. On the same album (Sgt Pepper), “A Day in the Life” is a clear example of them working together. Later songs like “I’ve got a Feeling” show Paul & John continuing their collaboration. There are debates about how much each person did on a song such as “Eleanor Rigby” where John said he wrote most of the lyrics & Paul claims John only wrote half a line. But even w/ “Rigby”, it shows Paul & John collaborating. * Still the general rule applies for who was the primary writer of a John or Paul song where they are the main singers. Who the dominant singer is tells if it is primarily a John or Paul song. John sings “Mr. Kite” so it mainly comes from him. (This rule of course doesn’t apply to songs written for Ringo & in one case for George).

Paul does not have a finger on this song. John wrote it entirely. In 1977 a reporter showed Paul a list of songs that John claimed he wrote in its entirety. The only song that Paul took issue was In My Life. So, at that time he admitted that John wrote it. Now, after John passed away he started this crap that he wrote the song with John. John was a big JERK but he was brutally sincere. So, I believe John. Paul has an ego greater than the universe. One of these days he is going to take credit for Strawberry Fields.

Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite is a real gem and one of the perfect examples of Lennon's ability to put fresh ideas on paper and George Martin's to align with those concepts and help John materialize those ideas. Some people are mad that Paul said- in some way- that he contributed to "Mr.Kite". I want to point out that this video gives us a snippet of Paul's words. Perhaps they are taken a little out of context. Of course this song is John's. Half the time Paul had to go to John's house to get him out of bed to get John to produce anything. But, I believe Paul if he says he contributed to it. Probably something small, like "...of course, Henry the Horse dances the waltz." That sounds like Paul to me. Plus I doubt John knew what a waltz was. LOL.

Paul has no reason to seek partial credit for this song if he had not, indeed, assisted in its creation....he already was given dual Lennon/McCarthy song credit, so no royalties at stak. He has an absolute trove of other songs, so no ego thing....your synopsis on how things went down is likely spot on.

In 1977, when shown a list of songs Lennon claimed writing on (including "Mr. Kite"), McCartney disputed only "In My Life". In his 1997 memoir, he claimed to have also co-written "Mr. Kite". These are the facts of Paul seeking more writing credit AFTER John died, which is what he’s been doing to try to boost his legacy. Otherwise why would he contradict himself and only take credit for songs AFTER John died? To say John wouldn’t know what a waltz was is beyond ignorant. John was the most well read of all the Beatles, the only author in the band.

The older McCartney got (and of course AFTER John died) the more songs he claimed to have written. Sad Sorry but Paul looses all credibility when he contradicts himself as in: In 1977, when shown a list of songs Lennon claimed sole writing on (including "Mr. Kite"), McCartney disputed only "In My Life" as being a co-writer which is also very questionable. however In his 1997 memoir, he claimed to have also co-written "Mr. Kite".” 🤦🏽‍♂️

Point to respect Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite sounds very similar and has the same chord structure as It's Only Love on the side 2 of Help album. John hated the lyrics of It's Only Love. Another song the Beatles never did in concert.

Disagree about needing the big arrangement, although it's magnificently circusy. This song sounds great on acoustic guitar. Awesome series of chords. I believe Paul that he helped on this song. It's pretty unlikely Lennon would have ever come up with these chords, but Paul was really good on the interesting chord progressions, key changes, etc. And the chords include awesome runs in the bass. Who played bass? Paul.
@hw343434
@hw343434 3 года назад
Interesting chord progressions are something John was a MASTER at. If you try to play some of his songs like “I am the Walrus”, “#9 Dream”, “Real Love”, “Julia”, “Across the Universe” and countless others... you would know John is the master of unique chord progressions. Paul originally did NOT dispute it was entirely a John song in 1977, then “changed his mind” in 1997 🤔 Great Bass Line by Paul though

You did'nt really explained how they made the song. you explained quite a lot of the songwriting but that's it. you never explained (for example) how they came up with such unusual melodies and instruments and you didn't mentioned the tapes from the Emi Arcives that were used and how geoff emerick was involved. I learned a bit about the song from this video, but i din't learned how it was made.

Of course Paul does those type of things . I've gone to some of his concerts and he is hesitant to mention John's impact. Even when talking about John in any interview he never gives John full credit he always in the end centers around himself. The only time I heard him be somewhat honest is when he was interviewed by Sean. He is almost never present at John's tribute specials. He treated Harrison the same way. Telling George how to play his lead part and I think this is why George wrote while my guitar gently weeps. Listen to his song junk and how he is really talking about Yoko. I love Paul but sometimes he is too obsessed with his legacy. In one of Beatle's tribute special Ringo was with Paul on stage and Ringo had to remind us when he said. It will always be John Paul George and ringo

The issue I have is that John is no longer here to elaborate his story how he was inspired in writing "For the Benefit if Mr. Kite". Wait a minute, who sang the song? How much does Paul claim that he collaborated in writing the song? Did he sing the song at all? It was mot available song. John Lennon was written all over this. Sometimes I do question Paul's account. He also tried to claim that he had a hand innth3 song "In My Life". I think Paul should leave "Yesterday" behind and just "Let it Be" or risk being "A Fool on the Hill". After all, the "Nowhere Man" is no longer here.

I can never tell if Paul constantly misremembers contributing to songs he didn't contribute to, or if John wasn't just snubbing Paul when he would claim full artistic ownership of songs post-Beatles breakup!

I think it's slightly odd how McCartney often claims to have co-written songs that have always been attributed to being purely Lennon. Didn't he claim in the Anthology book to have helped John on I Am The Walrus? I seriously have my doubts about that one. That song was 100% Lennon. It reeks of him! I wonder if he would have made such outrageous claims had John still been with us? I very much doubt it.

McCartney has engaged in a great deal of revisionist history since Lennon died and Lennon can't refute it. In my opinion you're wrong about McCartney being honest and that he can be trusted about who wrote what. In an interview in 1977, McCartney was shown a list of songs that Lennon had previously addressed in an interview about who wrote what. McCartney took issue with only one song. I'm not sure, but I think it might've been Ticket To Ride. Since Lennon's death, McCartney has revised his opinions about many songs. McCartney has always been more concerned with his image than Lennin was and how he's perceived in the public eye. Possibly revising songwriting credits wouldn't be the first time Paul publicly stabbed John in the back. I guess it would have been 1969 or '70 when John told Paul he was leaving the Beatles. Allen Klein asked John not to announce it yet. John agreed. Lennon said: "When I got back [from Toronto] there were a few meetings and Allen said, ‘Cool it,’ ’cause there was a lot to do [with The Beatles] business-wise, and it wouldn’t have been suitable at the time. Then we were discussing something in the office with Paul and Paul was saying to do something, and I kept saying, ‘No, no, no’ to everything he said. So it came to a point that I had to say something. So I said, ‘The group’s over, I’m leaving.’ Allen was there, and he was saying, ‘Don’t tell.’ He didn’t want me to tell Paul even. But I couldn’t help it, I couldn’t stop it, it came out. And Paul and Allen said they were glad that I wasn’t going to announce it like I was going to make an event out of it. I don’t know whether Paul said, ‘Don’t tell anybody,’ but he was damn pleased that I wasn’t. He said, ‘Oh well, that means nothing really happened if you’re not going to say anything.’ So that’s what happened." - John Lennon Then, Paul publicly announced he was leaving the Beatles. McCartney was happy Lennon was not going to announce he was leaving the Beatles, then McCartney announced he was leaving the Beatles. Underhanded. Again, revising songwriting credits wasn't the first time Paul publicly stabbed John in the back. That said, McCartney's talent as a musician and songwriter, both within the Beatles and as a solo artist has few rivals, with Lennon being the most obvious. Writing solo or in collaboration with Lennon, McCartney is arguably the greatest songwriter of all time. The other who I personally would argue for is Lennon, but that's an argument which will never be settled. They were both the best ever in my opinion. I'm just happy they met and changed the world.

it's not the song of the one who wrote it. it's the song of who composed it ;) most people think "he wrote the lyrics, he made the song" but thats wrong. the lyrics are not the complete song. if you want to make music with talent only for good lyrics and with no talent for composing and creating a good melody you should make folk or something like Bob Dylan.
