Episode 4 explores the unique literary style of the Bible that is meant to draw its readers into a lifelong journey of reading and meditation. The Bible is designed as a multi-layered work, offering new levels of insight as you re-read it and allow each part to help you understand every other part. The Bible is the original meditation literature.

Kind of reminds me of Max Lucado. In his book "When God Whispers Your Name" he questions which person in the bible are "you?" Not literally of course. But he means to reflect on what people in the bible did (many ones who did things for the Lord) and see how you can be similar to them. Just an encouraging way to look at the bible though application to our lives is important might be more important as well.

Christianity did not stem from or come out of Judaism. Christ was a Jew true enough, but he came to seek and save the lost as well as establish his church, which he’ll come back for.
@sarah_noodle
@sarah_noodle Год назад
@@elitomulet9151What religion do you think Jesus practiced? And all those scriptural references he made, where do you think they came from? Even the idea of ritual baths (I.e. baptism) is from Jewish custom. Christianity wasn’t even considered it’s own religion in the ancient world for the first little bit. It was thought of as a radical sect of Judaism like the Essenes at Qumran. It was only when they started letting Gentiles in that it became a standalone movement. It’s EXTREMELY important to understand Jesus and his immediate disciples as Jews in a Jewish world. If we don’t, a lot of the New Testament loses meaning because the don’t get the cultural subtexts that the original readers would have understood.
@sarah_noodle
@sarah_noodle Год назад
@@prenticestrawder6600 If Christianity did not stem from Judaism, then all the Old Testament prophecies pointing toward Jesus as the Messiah become null and void, which then delegitimizes Jesus’s claims to Messiahship themselves. Even he said that he was the one JEWISH scripture had been pointing to. Shoot the only difference between Christianity and Judaism (beside the law following) is that Jews don’t believe that ~JESUS~ was the prophesied Messiah. They believe ~A~ Messiah will come, as was foretold, but that he hasn’t yet. Otherwise, we worship the same God, believe in the same exodus, and read the same psalms.

This is why we MUST be filled with the Holy Spirit, if we don't then there will be so many denominations like there are today, because it's all human interpretation mixed with the spirits interpretation. We need spirit AND truth!
@Gaminglord123

David Anzaldua Different denominations aren't necessarily a bad thing. Minor differences on small matters don't affect fellowship. So long as they agree on the big theological points and other important things, there shouldn't be a problem.
@FRN2013
@FRN2013 7 лет назад
And some denominational differences are about style rather than substance. When I meet a fellow Christ-follower, I don't ask a bunch of questions to see if his doctrines all line up with mine. I just rejoice in the Lord with him.
@XxMrDAVIDA7xX
@XxMrDAVIDA7xX 7 лет назад
There's something to what y'all are saying but it does say we need to be of one mind, sure if there are differences in preference of food and what not praise God because we aren't monotone but unique and different, although whatever is of God we must agree with it. Many people think well he believes in God so he's part of the body of Christ but that's just not the case and we must strive to be the remnant and not the ones who think they will be saved in the end but preservere until the end. There is too much influence of the world in today's churches, your truth is ok and mine is ok. But it can't be our truth it must be Gods only!
@rai-leighgrant1457
@rai-leighgrant1457 7 лет назад
I agree we should let the spirit lead. The spirit is meant to lead us into all truth. I don't identify with denomination because they pick what truth is convent and they have their doctrines. I'd rather read the Bible and if my current belief doesn't match up with it I change it. I don't form the word to me I form myself to the word.

BERTIL SCALI Holy books are like a mirror. Even though you or I read and see mostly absurdity and obscenity we have to admit that many intelligent people read the same books and it breaks their heart and makes them want to serve others, beginning with the weakest and most vulnerable. That itself is something to meditate on.

Also, aside from having friends and family read the Bible with us, we are not alone in the sense that the Holy Spirit is there guiding us. As the Holy Spirit guided the prophets in writing the Bible, He can also guide the readers absorbing the content. Just wanted to throw that in, it’s a good practice to pray for discernment as well before reading 😁 Thanks TBP! And enjoy reading everyone!

The Bible is such a wonderful, intentional, masterpiece of art and the way you all are breaking it down through this artistic, well thought out, beautiful imagery, transitions, storyline and the fantastic banter between with narrators, to in the end make it all come together is incredible. Populations of the Middle east, northern Africa and South America have become lighter over time due to a purposeful agenda pushing whites to intermix with native folks, and essentially "white them out" over 3-4 generations.The movie "Rabbit Proof Fence" illustrates this in South Africa. Also see the YT documentary "Whited Out" . Interestingly Israel has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world - lots of white folks that don't belong? (I am white btw)

The "Serpent" is a descriptive term. ex. If someone calls you a butthole does that mean to say that you are an actual, literal sphincter? The Scripture never mentions an Apple or apple tree. But it does mention a tree, again as a metaphor descriptive term for the human body. A tree comes from the 👂-th/Ear-th. Luke 6:44-45 ( ie. the tree of life /YHWSH / Messiah / Christ Jesus Gen 2:9, Rev 22:2-3 ) Math.3:10, Luke 3:9, ( During the threesome / Introduction of bisexuality & homosexuality =ing the fall. In the garden. Gen 3:6-7. Which led to the conception & birth of Satan's & Adam's offsprings / fruit as dizygotic twins. - Gen 3:15 , ENMITY. Gen 4:2) . What is the fruit of the human body? Offspring. Please read again slowly for the first time.

My prayer is that my hunger for the Bible and God Himself would be like this. That I'd be so excited to figure out what's next, get to know Him more, eat lunch with Him, chill with Him like any other friend but acknowledging Him still as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I want to be at the edge of my seat, find myself binge reading the Bible looking at the clock and saying "It's 2:00am already?" Anticipate the next day because I'm excited what God has to say, not wanting to go to sleep because I don't want to miss a moment with Him. I just want Jesus to be the center of my life, inside and out and everything in between.

+itsnotaboutme I understand what you're saying, but not everyone watches it for that. It's a creative well written series... Much better than most shows. It's like me telling you don't hang out with people who swear; you're going to be lonely. There's something bad in everything... I hope that doesn't sound like a silly excuse, but, I actually watch it because of the creativeness in the show, and not the few nude scenes that appear here and there.

I hope this somewhat long comment helps: God doesn't feel emotions in the same way that we do. Emotions are not static; they develop, evolve, appear and disappear. If God experienced emotions, it would imply that he changes, and/or is affected by outside circumstances. This violates divine impassibility and immutability. God does not change. God is who he is forever. Therefore he doesn't have "emotions" as we would conceive them. Also remember that negative emotions derive from the fall, not from God. Truly human emotions like love, compassion, respect, empathy etc are derived from God's eternal character, bestowed upon us as his living images. Negative human emotions like anger, hatred, revenge etc derive from the fall, not from God. They are corruptions of emotion, originating in the corruption brought about by humanity's rebellion. Much of the time when the Bible ascribes emotions to God it is doing so for the sake of understanding. You can think of it is a necessary anthropomorphism. That is not to say that God doesn't feel things. God is love, but he doesn't "start" loving in any sense. He IS love, in his very essence, radiating within the Trinity and pouring out into creation. He doesn't decide to love us, he simply loves us because that's who he is. When we reject God's love and do things contrary to the divine nature, we alienate ourselves from him and experience it as wrath or anger from our perspective. Everything God does in human history is motivated by love and care for his creation, but we interpret it through our limited human perspective. With the coming of Christ, we now have a fuller understanding of the nature of God even though we are still limited. God chastises and rebukes as any father would, but never out of anger or wrath, as though we could induce such emotions in him. God does these things for pedagogical reasons, that is, to instruct/correct us, and for our own good.

I believe god does not have emotions. But emulates them in his imagery to make it easier for us to understand it and it’s actions

Beautiful illustrations and concise explanation. I first learned about this kind of symbolism and interwoven nature of biblical literature when reading "Paradise Restored" by David Chilton. Wonderfully shows the connections of biblical concepts related to water, trees, mountains, etc. Still diving down to understand the imagerys, but its a beautiful journey! Thanks for creating this!

Certainly! I’ll quote Chilton (he’s much more eloquent than I). If you want to find his book for free google: "david chilton paradise restored pdf” “When Jesus speaks of “living water” (John 4:10), we rightly recognize that He is using water as a symbol. We understand that when He spoke to the woman at the well, He was not merely offering her “water.” He was offering her eternal life. But He called it “water.” We should immediately ask: Why did He do that? He could have simply said “eternal life.” Why did He do that? He could have simply said “eternal life.” Why did He speak in metaphor? Why did He want her to think of water? Now this is where we can make a big mistake, and this is the primary error of some interpreters who try to take a “symbolic” approach. It is the think that Biblical symbolism is primarily a puzzle for us to solve. We can suddenly decide: "Aha! Water is a special code-word which means eternal life. That means that whenever the Bible talks about water symbolically, it is really talking about eternal life; whenever someone takes a drink, he is really becoming a Christian." It just doesn't work that way (as you will see if you try to apply it throughout the Bible). Besides, what sense would it make for the Bible simply to put everything in code? The Bible is not a book for spies and secret societies; it is God's revelation of Himself to His covenant people. The puzzle-solving, mystical interpretation tends to be speculative; it does not pay sufficient attention to the way the Bible itself speaks. When Jesus offered "water" to the woman, He wanted her to think of the multiple imagery connected with water in the Bible. In a general sense, of course, we know that water is associated with the Spiritual refreshment and sustenance of life which comes through salvation. But the Biblical associations with water are much more complex than that. This is because understanding Biblicalsymbolism does not mean cracking a code. It is much more like reading good poetry. The symbolism of the Bible is not structured in a flat, thismeans-that style. Instead, it is meant to be read visually. We are to see the images rise before us in succession, layer upon layer, allowing them to evoke a response in our minds and hearts. The prophets did not write in order to create stimulating intellectual exercises. They wrote to teach. They wrote in visual, dramatic symbols; and if we would fully understand their message we must appreciate their vocabulary. We must read the Bible visually. The visual symbols themselves, and what the Bible says about them, are important aspects of what God wants us to learn; otherwise, He wouldn't have spoken that way. So, when the Bible tells us a story about water, it is not "really" telling us about something else; it is telling us a90ut water. But at the same time we are expected to see the water, and to think of the Biblical associations with regard to water. The system of interpretation offered here is neither "literalistic" nor "symbolic"; it takes the "water" seriously and literally, but it also takes seriously what God's Word associates with water throughout the history of Biblical revelation. What are some of the Biblical associations which might have occurred to the woman at the well, and to the disciples? Here are a few of them: 1. The watery, fluid mass that was the original nature of the earth at the creation, and out of which God formed all life (Gen. 1); 2. The great river of Eden that watered the whole earth (Gen. 2); 3. The salvation of Noah and his family by the waters of the Flood, out of which the earth was re-created (Gen. 6-9); 4. God's gracious revelations to Hagar by a fountain (Gen. 16) and a well (Gen. 21); 5. The well called Rehoboth, where God gave Isaac dominion (Gen. 26); 6. The river out of which the infant Moses, the future Deliverer of Israel, was taken and made a prince (Ex.2); 7. The redemptive crossing of the Red Sea, where God again saved His people by water (Ex. 14); 8. The water that flowed from the stricken Rock at Sinai, giving life to the people (Ex. 17); 9. The many ritual sprinklings in the Old Testament, signifying the removal of filth, pollution, sickness and death, and the bestowal of the Spirit upon the priests (e.g., Lev. 14; Num. 8); 10. The crossing of the Jordan River (Josh. 3); 11. The sound of rushing waters made by the pillar of cloud (Ezek. 0; 12. The River of Life flowing from the Temple and healing the Dead Sea (Ezek. 47). Thus, when the Bible speaks of water, we are supposed to have in our minds a vast host of associative concepts, a complex of Biblical images that affects our thinking about water. To put it differently, water is supposed to be something like a "buzzword," a term that calls up many associations and connotations. When we read the word water we should be reminded of God's saving acts and revelations by water throughout Scripture. The Bible uses many of these "buzz-words," and increases the number of them as it goes on; until, by the time we get to Revelation (the capstone of Biblical prophecy), they all come rushing toward us at once, in a blizzard of associative references, some of which are obvious, some obscure. To the one who really knows his Bible and has noted the literary patterns and images, much of the book will look familiar; to the rest of us, it's confusing..In Revelation, we are confronted with all the Biblical connotations of numerous images: not only water, but light, fire, clouds, angels, stars, lamps, food, stones, swords, thrones, rainbows, robes, thunder, voices, animals, wings, scavengers, eyes, keys, trumpets, plagues, mountains, winds, seas, altars, blood, locusts, trees, heads, horns, and crowns. This is why it's necessary to understand the Bible and its use of symbols and patterns if we are ever to understand the Book of Revelation. The following chapters on the Paradise theme in Scripture are designed to introduce the reader to the Bible's use of imagery. Essentially, this is an exercise in Biblical Theology, the technical term for the study of God's progressive revelation of salvation. In principle, the whole Story of redemption is taught in the early chapters of the Bible: the rest is simply built upon the foundation laid there. This is why, as we shall see below, the later revelations depend so heavily on the theme of the Garden of Eden. As we enter this study of Biblical imagery, let's review the basic rules: 1. Read visually; try to picture what the Bible is saying. 2. Read Biblically; don't speculate or become abstract, but pay close attention to what the Bible itself says about its own symbols. 3. Read the Story; try to think about how each element in the Bible contributes to its message of salvation as a whole. (David Chilton, Paradise Restored, Ch. 2)

Christ Is Risen Technically that being in the garden was turned into a snake AFTER the fall, not before. The Bible Project has a bad habit of portraying the Enemy as a snake before he was actually turned into one. Weird

Praise God! To me the “Jewish Meditation” is accomplished best when you digest chunks of scripture and ponder them. You find yourself reading the scripture in your mind throughout the day and even days. Even for one chunk!! You then are drawn to other scriptures as you dissect the meaning of the scripture you were pondering. Eventually bringing you back to where you started with a better understanding of God’s Word, allowing you to move on and you dive deeper into the Word of God. Understanding the style of writing ✍️ is very important for this to be accomplished.

Amazing! I never thought my Bible is one whole literary genius work! Before I just thought the Bible is JUST a book (I know it's a compilation of books), like JUST AN ORDINARILY WRITTEN BOOK (except for the Psalms, Songs, Ecclesiastes, and Proverbs. Oh, and Paul did a good job, too, on the Epistles). I thought the prophets and the other writers were just writing everything...like it is! Haha ya got me there! I'll have more fun digging my Bible from now on. So thank you so much! Can't wait for the next video!
