Watching this video felt like reliving my decade+ of being a Celtics fan. The ups and downs. The disappointments and heartbreak. All of it leading to the 2024 championship. Great job, man!
In hindsight too it was kinda insane how much pressure we were putting on two 20-25 year olds over the years. Some adults are still kinda just older kids at those ages and MFers were really saying break them up cuz despite multiple deep playoff runs cuz they hadn't won a ring yet. That's kind of insane. God they fucking earned this championship. So glad Ainge(early on) and Brad stuck it out with them instead of taking trade baits throughout the years.
@@wesleyprince3465 Well, Tatum didn't earn this championship. He's proven to be the biggest choker in finals history. Four other all-stars were needed to carry Tatum to the title. Tatum still took the most shots, even though he said himself that he's nervous again, and can't hit any of his shots. He also hogged the ball from Holiday and Brown, and led the team in turnovers, cause he was trying to force the FMVP to himself. And people call him selfless.
Man as a lifelong Celtics fan, since '97-'98 can I just say that I love Isaiah Thomas. THE LITTLE GUY!!!(TOMMY VOICE). I still shed a tear watching that interview after that 53 point game, the day after his sister Chyna(RIP) passed. He did it for her, and he did it for us. I really love that dude, and he will forever be a great Celtic!
Hell yea man, preach. I’m from a couple towns over from his hometown and people don’t give him enough praise. That game for his sister was something to see
It really is weird though. What other “super team” (or just championship team, for that matter) doesn’t include a top 5 player and can also win a championship, in dominating fashion, when their best player is clearly in the middle of an extended shooting slump? I can’t think of any.
@@dewanewelch1744 Tatum is a choker, he's selfish, he's still turnover prone, and he has the same bad shot selection as always. Yeah, he's nowhere near top-5.
Jayson Tatum (elite defending 1-5... Can LITERALLY defend any player in the NBA without needing help)... And jaylen brown is just as insane on the wings as jrue and white in the backcourt... Add porzingus... A top 3 rim protector... And you have a top 5 all time team
Every Boston fan is forever thankful for IT. We will always love the little guy. Forever a Celtic ☘️ And don’t even get me started on Marcus Smart. I cried real tears when Marcus was traded
@@chronostv2071I mean, it was a Mickey run with all the injuries. But they would have still gone all the way without their opponents being injured, it just hurts their legacy for the next couple of years if they don’t win another ring in the next 5-6 years.
@Sage_Hashish which is ridiculous bc no one says Denver has a Mickey mouse chip even though we just saw Miami won against Boston bc of Tatum's injury and then Denver beats an 8 seed to win it all. The double standard is what's crazy
You know, if you decided to do one of these for every team, every offseason you would make the summer go by faster AND make work a little easier for us all lol. Excellent work, great effects, editing, and story telling.
@@penkima4923 oh so when they traded for D white you thought he was a star right? That's not Brad Stevens foresight right? Also nobody called KP a "star" when we got him. They all said he can't stay healthy and will be a role player, let's be real. No media or most nba fans didn't see what the C's front office did. Put some respect on Brads name bruhhhh
@@SurrenderToW1n "oh so when they traded for D white you thought he was a star right?" He puts up the same stats now as when he was traded. "Also nobody called KP a "star" when we got him. They all said he can't stay healthy and will be a role player, let's be real." "They" said KP played his best basketball at WAS since he was an all-star. He played 65 games. And KP wasn't the only player traded to BOS, but Holiday was an all-star for the Bucks, and he came to BOS as well. "No media or most nba fans didn't see what the C's front office did. Put some respect on Brads name bruhhhh" Brad built the most pathetic team ever. They needed 5 star players on the team to win the chip.
They lead by 20 in 50 of 101 games. Most 50 point, 40 point, 30 point, and 25 point wins this year. First #1 overall seed and top net rating team to win since the 17 Warriors. I dont know if Super team is the right term but they remjnd me of the 15 Warriors
@@SuperDunk1000 hell nah , 12 ppg for jrue and porzingis wasn’t even close to all star level if u compare him to the forwards/centers picked before him
I swear people really forgot that Pierce and Garnett were like 37 years old when this trade was made how anyone thought it was a good move for brooklyn smh
If the Celtics won in 2022 it would’ve been one of the greatest playoff runs oat sweeping the KD Kyrie led nets beating the defending champions bucks in 7 beating the 1st seed heat in 7 and then beating the veteran warriors
Danny Ainge finessed the Nets to get the Jays. He plays chess while others play checkers. I'm glad the Jays didn't get drafted by the Lakers; they would've been traded because the team didn't have patience with young talent.
My heart still breaks for Isaiah. When i say i was so hurt they traded him i cried. I had planned to go to my first game at TD Garden in 2019 and they traded him that season. It came full circle because I ended up at the game when they gave him the tribute video
@@penkima4923could you please enlighten us as to who these supposed "stars" are that you are talking about? and can you also elaborate on how these supposed "stars" on a team that has "more stars than any other team" how almost none of them are ranked top 5, hell, arguably not even top 10 best players in the NBA?
@@christianrg8817 "could you please enlighten us as to who these supposed "stars" are that you are talking about?" No. They just won the chip. Start watching games. "how almost none of them are ranked top 5, hell, arguably not even top 10 best players in the NBA?" There more than 10 stars in the league.
The Isiah Thomas story always makes me tear up man. Dude was a true fighter and Celtic, he played his heart out every night and was amazing to watch. He even had the missing tooth and it seemed like he genuinely wanted to be a legendary celtic. it angers me that the world can be so cruel he truly deserved to ride with these guys.
In my heart, many former Celtics contributed to the ring. Not just via trades, but the way they built the championship culture. AB, IT, Marcus, Kemba, Hayward, Amir Johnson, Jerebko, Olynyk, Sullinger, Pressey, Aron Baynes, Blake Griffin...they are, in my mind, part of this championship team and they all deserve a ring.
Funny because before Celtic won a ring some people said they got worst by trading Smart and Brogdon. These were experts too 😂. So dumb. Stephen A said we are not deep at all!! 😂😂
With all the shit the Celtics had to go through after their future looked so bright, the Hayward injury, Kyrie quitting on the team, Kemba’s knees, Covid coming right in the middle of Jayson’s emergence as a superstar, all of the injuries. They earned this championship. No one likes to mention it cause everyone loves to hate on and discredit Tatum but Tatum played the entire 2022 finals with a broken wrist and a torn AC joint in his shooting shoulder. Tatum is the only guy in the league who isn’t given the injury excuse though.
"They earned this championship." The Celtics kept adding all-stars on the team until they won the chip. Turns out they needed 5 all-stars on the team to win. They sure as heck didn't deserve this chip. "No one likes to mention it cause everyone loves to hate on and discredit Tatum but Tatum played the entire 2022 finals with a broken wrist and a torn AC joint in his shooting shoulder." Except Tatum choked again in the 2024 finals, so the comments weren't hate. "Tatum is the only guy in the league who isn’t given the injury excuse though." In this year's playoff alone neither Luka or Jamal Murray got any injury excuse.
very enjoyable video, but I think you misread the reports about the Celtics wanting to draft Porziginis in 2014... they weren't looking to pick him at 6, they were considering offering Porzingis a draft promise with the 17th pick, but Porzingis was looking to go higher which is why he waited until the 2015 draft.... from Massive Inside the Celtics 10-year chase of Kristaps Porzingis trade: "Initially, Porzingis declared his eligibility for the 2014 NBA Draft as Boston held the No. 6 and No. 17 picks. Yet, as Boston considered a promise to draft the big man with the latter of their first-round selections, Porzingis had his sights set higher."
A) IT was a great player for the Celtics and it was easy to root for him for several reasons, but B) the Celtics had no obligation to mortgage their future out of a misplaced sense of loyalty to one player. The success of the team is bigger than the fate of one player, and because they didn't allow themselves to be sidetracked you see the end result: one of the greatest teams of all-time. Note it was that same ruthless desire to improve that allowed them to say goodbye to IT, which allowed them to also say goodbye to Pierce and KG before him. Stevens finished the job Ainge started, but they couldn't have done it if they'd allowed decisions to be dictated by sentimentality.
Idk man, IT was shaping up to be a lifelong Celtic, and a productive one too. Kyrie expected his “own team” and he came to Boston, one of the most well rounded programs in the NBA to do it. Doomed to fail. He got hurt right away while IT got pinballed around when they coulda just kept on keeping on. They had a ton of PG options without kyrie. That was their ONLY goofy move. Results have been results, but we’re lying if we think they couldn’t have gotten the same results with IT on the roster for those few years instead of kyrie
"I’m not buyin the super team here." The Celtics are buying. They acquired 3 out of 5 of their stars via trades. Of course they are a superteam. "They are just a nasty team with two solid all stars" Only Porzingis had the stats to be selected on the all-star team this season. Tatum and Brown made the all-star team this season, even though they didn't deserve to according to stats. They got in due to team record. Holiday was an all-star the previous season for the Bucks. It's not like he forgot how to play at all-star level. White was the first player to be left off the all-star team. If any player would've been injured, White would've played in the all-star game. So, the Celtics have 5 all-star level players on the team.
The roster isn't really that "deep" They went 6 deep in the finals some games and 7 deep in the other finals games They went 7 deep with porzingus out and 8 deep when he played throughout the other post season series
? It ABSOLUTELY LOOKS LIKE THEYRE A CRAZY DUO RIGHT NOW THEY JUST WON THE CHAMPIONSHIP WTF R U TALKING ABOUT? LOL Tatum is on track to have one of the best careers EVER and jaylen brown is a surefire ball of famer already
1st time in my life I ever got a voice to race wrong, I thought you was black bro but I was wondering so that’s prolly why I wasn’t sure 😂😂 that’s crazy.
Biston F'd around and picked the best player after all in '16. By far. I'm pretty sure they're happy. It went that way as opposed to the alternative. ........ Simmons
I loved the video, but I have no idea why you title it "Weirdest super team". Talent at every position, defense at every position and shooting at every position. Doesn't seem weird, it seems obvious and pulling it off makes them very smart.
The Tatum draft was the 🤌 The Cs had the Nets 1st pick and traded it for 76ers 3rd overall + a future 1st. Fultz went 1 and Ball (not the good one) went 2nd to the Lakers. Tatum taken by Cs at 3 and I believe they would have taken him at 1 if it came to that. Celtics have smashed on their picks.
10 years ago after Paul pierce and Kevin Garnett were traded to Brooklyn nets Celtics have considered the 4tg worst team ton the league 25-57 but this year Celtics has the best record in the league and won the nba championship
Celtics are a team thats built not only right, but with a lot of cunning and a no bullshit approach when it comes to their exec. Decisions. They dont make a whole bunch of emotional decisions like gsw, lakers. And they dont sit on their laurels like the hawks. All they care about is optimizing a championship. Sounds slightly awful.
