Bear bows are the real classic,s in field and hunting traditional bows I am lucky enough to have 5 vintage bear bows including a 1973 super Grizzley red stripe and nocks what a shooter 1971Kodiak Hunter 1967 48"magnum 1975Kodiak Magnum and a1973 metal rizer takedown with fascor limbs and red nocks all excellent bows and I love them and shoot them not a lot of them in the UK.
This was extremely interesting. I almost didn't bother to watch it. I have a new Bear Kodiak Cub bow on order just for grins. I always appreciate a chance to see the factory and processes involved from one of, if not the first, major producer of any product. It is living history, for sure. My favorite experience was one of the oldest sugar refineries on earth still functioning on the island of Fiji. The entire place was steam-powered from burning the squeezed and dried stalks of sugar cane after being processed. The entire plant was made of wood. Remarkable.
COOL what detailed Craftsmanship.? Old Fred Bear would of been proud of his Bows & his Name being carried on etc.? R.I.P. Fred Bear. You left a Great Legacy behind in your Name & Bows.? that will carry on for Generations to come in the Sport of Traditional Bow Hunting.?
What a neat job to have, working on the traditional bows at Bear Archery. Makes me sick to my stomach to know that I sold my 1967 Kodiak Magnum quite a few years ago. I can't wait to get a Kodiak in the next year or two.
I wonder if any of these workers get a discount on the bows.? I would even settle for any Factory Seconds.? If there is ever any made.?Just wonder what type of a string are used & shipped with the finished Bows.? Dacron or Tru- Flight , Flemish. etc.?
I think that Bobby is the baddest man in Bear archery, he worked on that bow from 1:17- 3:32 and performed about 12 steps in the bow making process, Bear bows by Bobby.
Very interesting. As a life long recurve archer... I'm disappointed to find out that they have not continued to make the Kodiak Magnum in a left handed dexterity. All I own is Bear bows.
Its apparent from the comments that more then a few of you are confused about what constitutes "Hand Made".... If your definition is "Made using only your Hands"... OK, good luck shaping a wood or metal with your fingernails.. However, If your definition is without the use of tools other then hand powered than you would have to go back to before the 19th century {1820's} and even earlier since many woodworking and metal working tools were powered by overhead belts connected to either steam engines or water wheels.. This is why industrial area's were usually on the banks of rivers.. Someone who makes Handmade Knives does not make them using only hammers, files, handsaws, rasps, and stones... If they did it would take so many man hours to make it look like something you would want to pay money for that they would need to charge $1000 just to pay themselves $10 an hour for their time.. If you watched the video, it was pretty obvious that over 90 percent of the operations performed on that bow were performed while HUMAN HANDS were controlling its movement across the surface of powered machinery tools.... The Human Hands were responsible for the depth of the cut, the pressure applied to the workpiece, how much material was removed, the shape of the final product... the application of the glue to the riser and limb strips, the placement in the bow press, the application of the limb tips, ect, ect, ect..... Get your heads out of your asses and into a garage and take up a hobby making something besides Moronic comments on a youtube video...
Yes for that model of bow, then for another there is probably about that amount, so for the 12-13 models Bear Archery makes of the traditional bows, they have 24 or 26 people working on the bow models. Maybe more with the two takedown hunting models, but not the other one piece models.
