Not just the devices. Start treating your kids as kids and discipline them more. No means no. Rudeness gets a timeout. Disrespect gets you a spanking. Worked for hundreds of years before and this is what you get when you take it away.

@@MisF1998 No we haven't been doing it since the beginning of time. Only when civilization starts falling apart. When Socrates first said that about about how kids had bad manners, contempt for authority and showed disrespect for elders, do you know what happened afterwards? The fall of the Athenian Empire. Greece was never the same again after that and a far cry from the days of Alexander the Great. Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus said something on the same lines as the Roman Empire fell apart... So when old boomers are complaining about the youth of today we as a whole of Western Civilization should stop and pay attention, cause the pattern fits repeatedly that of John Calhoun's Universe 25 (Mouse Utopia), where degeneracy in society comes right before society collapse...

Gen Alpha is genuinely so worrisome. I hate to see a little girl being worried about makeup and if she has the most recent “trends.” Everything’s being micromanaged by social media, and they can’t have their own opinions without being afraid of being shut down. Really heartbreaking.
@mistyydagoat
@mistyydagoat 3 месяца назад
The main problem is addiction. What's worrying is the tantrums and breakdowns they have when you take these things from them, even for a bit. In the past, kids used to be somewhat calm, and some even used to fake cries or breakdowns to get what they wanted. But now they're having actual complete breakdowns just by getting their phones taken away. Their phones are their worlds.

The problem is that basically most devices have things like parental controls. It's often an advertised thing... that no one uses. To use it, you'd have to first be 'tech and hip' enough to use it... and as a software engineer, I'll just be blunt: it was made for other techies like me, by techies like me, and not for parents who still type in their driver's license numbers into 'haha, funny image look up' gag sites. You 'can' have tech still be a handy tool, but only a tool, not an external organ. However, a tool usually has a handle, and that handle of parental controls was never set up because it isn't pushed that said systems are ACTUALLY usable by parents. Technically speaking, companies are complying with demands.

@@SuperLifestream I actually prefer many kids movies (the ones, especially older, made with effort) to todays adult movies for positivity and good writing. The pacing is usually a lot less drawn out unnecessarily. That and accurate book/manga rewrites and fan content. Maybe it’s higher standards or passion from the creators. On a similar but random note, I find a lot of older targeted content either don’t have a moral lesson or do have one but it’s melancholic in the end. That counts ones that are just 20 minutes of jokes and gags. It’s not really a recent problem either. It’s bothered me for ages randomly. I can’t stand to watch something that goes nowhere with their plot or has no consequences for characters/episode plot. There’s like a health medium between content that tries its hardest not to be for kids or content that tries to be only for kids. I just wish types of pacing wasn’t often just for money cutbacks.

As a Gen Alpha representative, I can confirm that the Gen Alpha stereotype is true for some kids, but not for most. It’s not fair that people bring light to the worst of the worst of Gen Alpha, and not the normal kids in Gen Alpha. I’m in 5th grade. And while me and most of my classmates have been exposed to technology so early, we’re still normal kids. We grew up with the same things everyone else did, we developed the same way. The ‘iPad Kid’ term is only true for a small percentage of Gen Alpha. All of my friends have normal lives. All of my classmates do sports, and most do good in school. And you wanna know something cool? I remember what the old DanTDM lab looked like, including the basement with all the mods from when I was like, 6. I was exposed to technology early, but let me tell you something. I knew how to add and subtract when I was in Pre-K. I get straight A’s in every class. For my most recent reading EOG, I got all the questions right, and for math, only missed 2. Im even writing a 500 page chapter book! Heck, 2 books on my Lexile Reading Level are ‘The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin’ and ‘The Federalist Papers’. And I’m not even the smartest of the smartest in my school! I’m like the 2nd smartest person there. Also, when we use our “slang”, it’s mostly just making fun of words like ‘skibidi’ and ‘gyatt’. Most kids have an actual decent, if not good, sense of humor. What I’m trying to say is, the ‘iPad Kid’ term is a huge stereotype for most Gen Alpha kids. We all grew up normally with no problems. Everyone I know plays sports or some sort of active hobby, no one’s tied to their screens, and Gen Alpha is normal kids! And I promise I’m not a literal loser/nerd, lol. Reminder, I’m a 5th grader. I have a decent sense of humor, never watched ‘Skibidi Toilet’ once, and am a good kid! But I’m not a nerd lol, and I’m not perfect. Nobody is. And nothing against the person who made the video! The video’s actually good! I just needed to say this. (sorry that was so long lol, I got really carried away.)

Bro same and I am always seeing people shame our generation because of a small percentage of us. It’s making some of my peers hate themselves because of what generation there in and I’m in middle school. I also gets good grades and I’m social and don’t need a screen to function properly. I think people on the internet should actually do something for our generation instead of just hating on it, like actually talking to some of the kids watching these videos and encourage them, instead of making them start hating themselves.

I want to believe parents have a desire to be present in their kids' lives. Sure, you'll have your lazy or self-absorbed parent(s). But they have been everpresent from the beginning. All the others are working double shifts, moonlighting with side gigs, or are doing the work of many positions in their career. They get home and are too exhausted to lift a finger, let alone give their child the attention they want and deserve. It's too easy to say, 'Well then, they shouldn't have had kids.' It should be economically possible in this world to both have a family and have the resources (energy in this case) to provide for them. Go back thirty years, and that was possible with little effort. Today? Good luck.

Hello. I was born in 2013, and I'm of Gen Alpha. Because of this, most people don't even treat me like a human being, and the internet agrees I should be stupid. I was lucky to be raised the way I was, as in I wasn't handed an iPad at the age of two. That has helped my mental growth a lot, I'd say. It really shows it's not the kids' fault for being 'stupid', but rather the parents. If they don't actually _parent_ their children, they'll be dumb.

Thank you Visual Venture for posting this video. Hello everyone, I'm Anna, and I am thirteen, one of the oldest of the gen alpha. I am different from the rest, as I study hard in school to go to college for business management. Every time I go to school, everyone is always on their phones, even when the school says they shouldn't. Everywhere around me, people are saying things like "Last rizzmas, I gave you my gyatt" and "Skibidi toilet" and it is driving me to the point where even the things they're saying is giving me brain rot. I was originally going to start my business off by creating some social media or device company, however, I realized that it was a bad influence on people themselves. I never ask for makeup; I don't even wear makeup. Even If I wanted to wear makeup, it would just to be how I looked. I usually don't follow trends, and some can be dangerous, like taking as many Bena drills as you can, and putting on 100 layers of foundation. And honestly, following the herd is a waste of time, and 97% of creators don't make it to famous. I believe that makeup is bad for the skin, and unnatural. Honestly, I don't understand why my generation freaks out when devices are taken away, because you're just tapping a holographic piece of glass. Most of the time, I go outside, you know, swim in a river. And the screen time, in my opinion, is making it to where it's hallucinating the brain for more videos, which become a nonstop desire. I recommend to all the gen alphas that are reading this to set a timer/limit to screen time, and go outside more. Because the only thing that's realer than something that makes your eyes go bad on a piece of glass, is reality. And I tell you, once you go outside, it will be worth it. And if you don't study in school, then where are you going to go? you can't flip burgers for the rest of your life because that's almost minimum wage. If you get a diploma, you know, then eventually go to college, you're going to realize that spending time behind a screen all day would not be worth it. So, to all of the gen alphas reading this please, , study hard and don't be a couch potato. - Anna R.

If you want to have a good job as an elementary school teacher, I suggest you move to here in Corfu. Kids here aren't as bad as they are at big cities like Athens and Thessaloniki. I’m 14, gen z. When I was 6, I BEGGED my parents to get me an iPad. My parents said no. By the time I was 7, I had saved up 100 dollars to buy an Amazon FreeTime. I asked my parents if I could buy it and they said I could, but I had to follow rules. I agreed and bought it. When I got my tablet, my parents told me no RU-vid, no Roblox, and I have to ask before I get games. I also could only play for 1 hour a day. At the time, I was PISSED. I wanted to play my tablet ALL DAY but my parents said no. Instead, I would play outside or with my toys. At the time, I wasn’t very happy, I was very mad. But now, I’m very thankful that they set those limits and restricted me. If I HAD gotten RU-vid, I would have been in real trouble. I got an iPad at 12 and I still had an hour a day and had to ask to install games, but now I could also watch RU-vid and play Roblox. If I had the ability to do these at 7, I could have been just as bad as Gen Alpha. Moral of the story: In the moment if you are mad at your parents for setting rules that may seem stupid, don’t fight it. Instead, thank them later, as they aren’t trying to mess with you. As a kid i was upset by my parents for having kids locks on my pc, restricting internet usage to half an hour a day and not letting me watch tv at any day except one movie a weekend. Thinking about it now, over 20 years later, i cant thank them enough. I have literally missed out on nothing.

Okay I'm not as strict on the TV but your parents are awesome. This is exactly how we're raising our children, I'm Gen X so we're older parents, choosing to have children in our mid-thirties too early 40, after we lived. There are no individual computers (outside of myself and my husband, we got to work) there are no cell phones for kids, there is no talking back ( you are allowed to express yourself but you will do it respectfully), there is corporal punishment (but it has never had to happen because anticipation of the spanking is worse than a spanking for my kids). We keep them in every activity under the sun. From Sports to the Arts, by the time they get home they're too tired for TV or Internet time. My friends have asked me to get the kids cell phones so that they will be safe. Well I was safe and cell phones didn't exist for kids when I grew up. I of giving in and getting them cell phones for when they are away from us for activities. But they will be basic phones, not smartphones. I'm not stupid I'm sure that they use these things with their friends, that is another reason why I don't allow them to have smart devices. I account for the "secret screen time" and that is why their internet usage is so low at home. Between school and friends they get enough. There are so many battles that I have to fight raising children color in an urban environment. We live in downtown Chicago, so I don't feel safe enough to let them roam freely. I have real life issues I'm not about to create virtual ones

@digitaldissapointment This obviously doesn't apply to EVERYONE, but the point still stands that the majority of Generation Alpha across the world acts like this. Not only that, but since you're saying that you can talk in both gen Alpha and gen Z, I can infer that you probably aren't even completely gen Alpha. You might have been born on 2010-2015 like me, I was born in 2011, but I certainly don't act like a gen Alpha kid. Range for Gen Z:1997-2012 Range for Gen Alpha:2010-2024 It is debatable whether one can still be considered part of gen Z even if the individual is still part of the year range on gen Alpha, as long as they don't act like brainrotted idiots.

I started by playing games like rec room where I didn't need to be there and I could leave whenever I wanted and then moved up to like making plans with friends and just trying to be more outgoing. Students consistently, asked to go to the restroom to go stare at their phones for 20-30 minutes before coming back. They also grew up with little time learning to be respectful and honest, as many students in my high school ignore the teacher and use Chat GPT for all their assignments, then complain when they get lower scores. I think the solution to this is to have this proclaimed as a national health crisis and put pressure on companies to make the apps less addictive.

I reccomend helping him if possible or as hard as you can and to try to set examples or show to your parents to make them eventually realize the situation. Example: 1. Show his grades 2. When he keeps throwing tantrums set it as an example for them to realize that he has been given everything at birth without supervision realizing that is why he keeps doing it 3. What could happen to him in the future 4. Show them his watching history 5. Just keep bringing up examples and situations Once parents will realize and do something about it, he will be throwing more tantrums when supervised and monitored. Even if that happens DONT EVER GIVE INTO IT. In addition, try to entertain him as much as possible or find other ways to do it, it will help on the tablet part.

As a 2010 kid, at a very young age(4-5) my parents gave me an IPad. I became completely addicted to it and it caused my parents to lock it away for the next few years. When they decided I was mature enough to use it again I refused because I didn’t want my life ruined, and that seemingly worked, now I gotta convince my parents to do the same for my younger brother, whom I am genuinely concerned for…
@HoneySwap
@HoneySwap Месяц назад
That was a really mature decision, honestly idk if I could do the same and I am a 2005 born. My cousin showed me the videogames and I became addicted at a young age, I can say now that my life is partially influenced by technology, as a kid I had a lot of problems with my parents bc those devices. I respect your decision.

I think bordom was one of the most positive things for me as a kid. Being bored and having to come up with something to do was such a great driver of creativity, with a tablet you don't have to be bored because there is an endless sea of overstimulating content to watch. So glad my parents were so strict on my tech usage, I got to play xbox for an hour a day, and eventually got a phone at age 14, which I wasnt allowed on youtube or any social media.

That I agree, I don’t usually play much I get an hour playing because not for the usage but because of the electricity bill. Even I don’t play much my mind wants to find something to do and that’s when creativity kicks in so yes I completely agree with you!

I mean I got my tablet at 12? But yeah idk wasn't even using it cuz meeting with friends etc was a higher priority. Now I'm 18 and yes I kinda sit behind my pc almost all day but that's kinda my job- coding, video editing etc- no time for games. But yeah as far as I remember- I never yelled at my parents or somethin. Hecc we had a windows XP and a bunch of retro games on it that we played with the whole family- fun times! Sadly over- Now we need to fight with stupid inflation and extremely high prices- Not so fun!

I am a 22 y old, so this makes me a gen z kid, as i grew up i realized how much more integrated with technology we became, i had always played games or watched tv and experienced the early days of youtube, I lived this transition to the modern internet in my childhood but i was still a kid that did kid stuff, playing peak a boo, going to playgrounds and getting my ass full of sand and all that. When i began to realize that 3 year old kids were having ipads it was mind blowing. It’s so sad to see kids nowadays just locked up watching youtube or tiktok, barely interacting with others and learning more through parasocial relationships, since they grow affection towards content creators and online personas instead of their actual parents and other children, honestly it’s pretty hurtful to watch.

Hello, I'm a Gen Z Brazilian. I have a younger sister who is addicted to the Internet and electronic devices. She can barely have a simple conversation with her grandfather. This genuinely scares me. I encourage her to do other things, like read books, play and stimulate her imagination, things that a child should really do, and little by little, it's working. The best tip I can give is: Don't abruptly take iPads out of your children's hands. This will only stress them out. Try to encourage them to play, pay attention to them. This is what Gen Alpha needs. And please keep an eye on what your children are seeing. Take care of yourselves and take care of your children too.

Kids need to play outside. They see the world more, their immune system becomes stronger, they spend more time with friends and family, their imagination gets explored, and they get their exercise through play. Some TV time can be fine but not all the time, and parents must be present to see what they are watching.

As a former meth addict and sober for 3 years now. I want to say, these are all the signs of addiction. The materialism, the attention spans, the zombification, everything. These kids will grow up treating their friends and family like things instead of human beings. They'll leech off of people to get what they want and take advantage. As long as you have the stuff, they'll stick around. If you don't, then its goodbye. The zombification is the high feeling. You're either super energetic and wild, or so mellow you have no idea what else is going on around you. Addicted to material things is like meth, you're excited and you can't stop, you're relaxed though it gets you doing things 24/7 for an entire week with no sleep to a point where it effects your life negatively. The ipads is like hero!n, you're entranced and asleep. The attention spans and even can lead to short term memory and forgetfulness, is the outcome of doing too much. It's the exact same, and when you throw these kids out on the street, they'll be very easy consumer targets for drug cartels and dealers, because they already have the mentality. You would need to restrict the entire internet until the person is like 16-21. That's only way you get kids to stop. Maybe even more parenting classes made for people, and maybe even government funded which then we'll definitely be getting closer to how Japan is with their whole government funded social events just to get people to frikin breed. Btw, its a real thing. I seen two customers today at work with kids and ipads. It had like a literal purple handle on top, and purple frame, fit for a kid. And one kid looked like she was dressed like a literal w*re. A pound of makeup, and was ordering food for her mom. And of course her pink ipad. She looked like a Patrice Wilson victim. Oh and btw, F* Apple..
