Dude, loving all your tech videos and illustrations. The fact that you use simple analogies and make me laugh is a huge plus to all of them. But odd publish date for this one...HAVE I BEEN FOOLED?? Is the internet just a cloud afterall?!

People are really fixated on his hat, lol. Smh. His hat is dope. Everyone does not have to "look like you" for them to deserve to be taken seriously. Great video!

Could you consider making some more in depth videos? I know enough to get by and understand these general concepts, but I'm looking for the nitty gritty details. I can understand if you can't, because I understand I'm just a single viewer, but please consider it. On another note, I really like the way you convey the information. We need more people willing to teach these concepts to a larger audience rather than being the SNL IT guy.

WAIT YOU FORGOT TO MENTION SOMETHING ABOUT THE HUB!!!!!! A hub only broadcasts data if you tell it to! The way that you described it, was this evil device that shares all the computer's secret files! Did you know you can apply some sharing permissions or restrictions to your computers? This is an experience i had when connecting them: first i connected both of my computers to each other using the hub and once a plugged it in i saw a notification that asked if i wanted to set sharing permissions and allow computer 1 to access computer 2's data to avoid any misunderstanding next time somebody watches this, please just put a notification, maybe write something in the description, saying: "remember the hub only shares information if you tell it to" (whoa. this took 32 minutes to write)

Great video! thank-you for sharing this with us :). Though just to clarify - switches are used a lot more than hubs now. As you may or may not know - switches are basically smarter versions of hubs :)!

Hey Dave Or anyone here There is something i don't get with computer science. I know how to code in java and do some basic webdevelopment stuff. But how would you make something like react js. Or Django framework. Were would you start? I'm just asking because I want to get behind all this. I want to know how it's done in theory. Is it done with C or C++? It'd be great if some wizard could provide me with an answer. Thx for the video

Okay. Idea for another video. I haven't watched all your videos yet so if you made something that already answers these questions then just disregard. So if me and a bunch of people in the world decide to create our own "Internet" then we can. Do we charge people to access our own Internet/WAN(huge fucking wan) then? Why does Comcast/TWC have access to the normal Internet and we don't? Why are we paying them money to access this WAN that normal people like you and me decided to upload content to? Can we set up our own website and attach it to the regular Internet? Why do we have to pay someone to host our website that we created? How did this internet become monetized?
@DaveXiang
@DaveXiang 7 лет назад
1) You could make your own network and try to charge people. There would have to be some benefit to connecting. Maybe for cool gaming or cool content only accessible on your network. 2) Because it cost money/hardware/complicated shit to access the Internet. Your apartment is not a place where important networks connect. That happens at other places and you need to pay(ISP) to get access to it. 3) You can make a website on your computer at home and host a web app on the Internet if you really wanted to. Would you keep it on all the time? Do you have a powerful computer? That's why you pay for a service like Amazon.

I agree with the lose the baseball cap comment -- and also think your video is bright and informative. If you tone down the cool kid persona -- you may appeal to a wider audience and be taken more seriously. Good work though.
