My team had gone to "based from home" a few years before the Pandemic and increased productivity by 20%. Our employers were ok about it but only adopted the idea for the other 5000 staff when the pandemic began. They saved £100,000 in fuel costs in the first year and were able to ditch several premises. There had been a "management" push for Just-in-time equipment orders - but shortages affected our supplies ... and my 3 month stock holding proved invaluable in the Pandemic - as I watched it spread across Europe I ordered up an extra 6 months equipment items which came in on pallets as last deliveries from suppliers before locking down. So my part of the NHS sailed through the Pandemic and actually increased activity by 200% in that time - which has never decreased since

Placing high priority on innovation works great if you're the leader, as Tesla is. Maybe it doesn't work as well if you're not. Could it be that the legacy companies are pretty much stuck with not being as innovative? Could much of the difference just arise from the fact that there can only be one real leader? Could it really be that brutally simple? Or at least a lot of it?

Before the pandemic my company provided the means to work from home, it was a very uphill struggle a bit like trying to pry people out of ICE info EV's. Magically overnight everyone wanted to work from home, we were flat out getting businesses set up for home working, the very same management who poo, pooed the very idea of working from home were screaming at my staff to get them switched over !!!. I had a Rudyard Kipling moment, Tommy this and Tommy that....!!!!!

Well said Dave, we need to see forward thinking business. Tesla threw the old way of doing things out of the window and found improved ways. They made a massive change and disruption to how things could be done. The legacy never wanted a big change as it costs them, so they have never really got behind EV's. They will just lose out to all the companies that have.

Chinese consumers are leading the way. Not necessarily because they want to save the planet, EVs are just a much better product. Over 50% of new cars are EVs in China.
