They had a few, spices, herbs in there beaked masks which acted like a respirator, also there gowns were coated with wax which then prevented the fleas from nesting on them. Really saved a whole tons of lives. Really
Some of the herbs they put into the mask are actually anti-bacterial and anti-viral and could deactivate diseases before they reach the lungs and sinuses
At my school, I saw a few people dressing up as plague doctors. Man, they even won some awards. Also, plague doctors are something I find.. what’s the word.. fascinating.
Now, the herbs stuffed into the mask would actually make a pretty good filter. Many are plant leaves and stems, which are comparable to the cloth, wool, and paper masks that are currently approved. It would be by no means perfect, but the basic shape of the mask would likely prevent most of the particulates from sneezes and coughs, the only way the plague can be spread from human to human, from reaching the mouth and nose.
Plague is more contagious and versatile than you seem to realize. If I HAD to use such a mask, I wouldn't fill it with herbs. Activated charcoal is the answer! Even so, isolating from direct contact turned out partly correct, although the reasoning was flawed.
@@d.dementedengineerc99isurf26 Well, yes, carbon is obviously a good choice. I have designed my own carbon mask that uses two sewn-together cloth masks. I have not built it, but I would if I thought it was needed.
@@kitsuna9561 Are you meaning to tell me you won't sport one yourself? :( I will wear a full outfit this Halloween, haunting the town square and my favorite restaurants for lulz... I even have a lantern.
I was thinking the honey would act like mucus for its ability to trap particulates when used in a leaf filter mask. Charcoal is more effective against chemical agents than biological contamination
The only reason i was hyped for this pandemic was because i thought we'd get to walk around wearing those outfits again but my disappointment was immeasurable and my day was ruined
It's late in the morning. You are in bed with your phone next to your face. Suddenly, a Infographic show appears in your subscription feed. It demands that you like and comment on its new creation. It mentions consequences for not following it's demand, but also provides insight on a possible reward if you abide. You do as it asks, for you are frightened yet curious...
Do you mean you thought plague doctors were just an scp? Because there is an scp that looks like a plague doctor so I can see where you would be confused but I thought it was just common knowledge that plague doctors were a real thing (sorry if this sounds rude in any way I’m not good at wording things)
Listening to the parts of where he said the plague doctors would use the rod as a means of defense against people that were pulling on their clothes, made me think of the episode of fire force with doctor giovanni
As someone with a character who is a plague doctor I made this character in good intention and I didn't know If it would offend but im glad I got it almost right other then the material and shape of the mask!
I can imagine 300 years in The future a futuristic infographics show will cover the same topic but for modern day surgical masks and today's equivalent of the plague doctor's suit commenting how effective their medical gear would be for today's time and how we didn't understand medicine on their level as common sense to them.
@@theemperor1379 dont need to to know basic physics. Unless you're using a high enough level filter it wont stop the particles, be they organic or inorganic.
"Oh my, yet another victim of the disease." "Let's get this strange garment out of the way." "You are not a doctor." "Good heavens, it's worse than I thought. Like a wildfire, it spreads. They should have brought me here sooner." "I am the cure." "Do not be afraid, for I am the cure." "Ring-a-ring o' roses, pockets full of poses, a-tishoo, a-tishoo, and we all fall down." SCP-049, The, "Plague Doctor."
for a project in 5th grade i made a country mask and I made one based off of France and I made it like a plauge doctor mask its hanging in my room im really proud of it
SCP-049 is a humanoid entity, roughly 1.9 meters in height, which bears the appearance of a medieval plague doctor. While SCP-049 appears to be wearing the thick robes and the ceramic mask indicative of that profession, the garments instead seem to have grown out of SCP-049's body over time1, and are now nearly indistinguishable from whatever form is beneath them. X-rays indicate that despite this, SCP-049 does have a humanoid skeletal structure beneath its outer layer.
I think if they had followed the simple practice of disinfecting the suits when not wearing them would have helped them well in preventing the infection. The idea of making the suits air-tight meant that droplets and fleas could not enter the suit during the wearing period, which meant that the wearer would be safe during his work…. The only problem was that the people of the era failed to correlate flea bites with the disease, so they failed to realise that sanitation was the best solution for prevention.
My dad just tested positive but I'm in the clear for multitude of reasons. I'm trying to build a plague doctor mask that has a respirator built in to watch movies with him
I actually became more familiar with these masks when watching a playthrough of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and finding out what those creepy masks are for. I actually saw people wearing these on Halloween during the pandemic. That's cool.
Uh… the canes were used to inspect victims, keep them at a distance, and the move clothing so they can see the sores, there were some cases of self defense, but they weren’t designed for that purpose…..
