Ferrus Manus is actually based on in real life Götz von Berlichingen aka Gotz the iron hand, a German folk hero/mecernary with a iron prosthetic. Funny enough Götz von Berlichingen has a famous quote which he told to the enemy leader "Am I a robber! Tell your captain that for His Imperial Majesty, I have, as always, due respect. But he, tell him that, he can lick me in the arse!" translation from old english to "That for the emperor I entertain, as I have ever done, all due respect; but as for him, he may kiss my ass.”. Seriously sound like something Ferrus Manus would say

Ferrus Manus' flagship is also the Fist of Iron. Because of course it is.

So… ironus handus Is the Primarch of the iron hands who leads with his own iron hands, from his flagship the hand of iron. I would like to file a complaint with the department of redundancy department

The Iron Hands along with the World Eaters, Death Guard and Raven Guard are literally the most unimaginative, boring, deadline-meeting names like both the Iron Hands and Death Guard are meant to culturally be old Gaelic/Saxon/Germanic in origin but that's never explored with any characters or like Legion traditions before everything goes to shit in the Heresy or anything, the World Eaters are a little bit fleshed out with Angron's fantastic monologue against Guilliman when they're fighting during the Shadow Crusade when Angron is chastising him for knowing nothing of true struggle etc but they don't really have a cultural identity as anything more than Roman gladiators really, the Raven Guard are meant to be native American apparently but that's never once explored, they got done so dirty in every book they've ever had a character in

Why couldn't they call it the Crucible?

It was probably unintentional, but it turns out that ful is Swedish for ugly and grim is Danish for ugly. Meaning that Fulgrim's name is technically Ugly Ugly. Now it wasn't intentional, but it still does kind of fit with him now being a horrific monster when he once was a beautiful and stunning demigod.

Old Man, you got your medieval knight orders wrong. The Knights Templar were mostly based in Jerusalem. The Teutonic Knights are from Prussia.

Wait, you didn't know about the Heart of Darkness reference? It is probably the most obvious one.

I always heard that Corax was a reference to Edgar Allen Poe and his poem about the Raven. Maybe that wasn't what was originally intended, but it seems that's what he grew into, especially with his last word before leaving being "nevermore."
@thatlonewolfguy2878
@thatlonewolfguy2878 6 месяцев назад
The Raven Guard are apparently meant to be native-American influenced in their Chapter culture too or maybe Legion culture back in the Heresy days before they were massacred on Istvaan V but that's been turned into "generic gothic looking stealth specialists" which is more of a combat role and not a Chapter culture in terms of any traditions they have or anything

In yet older times, Magi, was a proper name for a specific monastic order of Zoroastrians, reputedly based in a secret temple somewhere in what is modern day Iran. They were also reputed to have extremely advanced knowledge of basically everything. Some scholars have even suggested that the thirty year absence of Jesus in the story in The Bible, was spent in this temple, learning magic and healing arts.

Robert Charles Guillemin is a Boston based street artist. He was famous for using acrylic paints. given that Rogue Trader came out in the mid-eighties, the same time Robert was painting and Ultramarines are named after the colour, that may just be the name in the newspaper

I think the Dark Angels reference if my favorite. It just has so many layers to it, from the name of the Legion itself to the Primarch that runs it. . . . . . . . . . . . Also, Old Man...at the time of watching this, PancreasNoWork has dropped a video called "The Skaven are Warhammer's Best Faction." I know you probably have a lot on your plate, but consider this to react to and see if he can defend this heresy!

If Perty is Aleister Crowley, then who is L. Ron Hubbard?
@alexess1970

I feel like somebody at GW was reading a lot of Crowley. There's the fact that his Golden Dawn/Order Templi Orientis name was Frater Perdurabo, also all the Adepta/Adeptus in 40k organizations - Adeptus is a GD/OTO/Thelema rank, there's a lot of tarot in the books - Crowley designed the Thoth deck. I feel like the Thousand Sons are based on that Golden Dawn era Egyptianesque esoteric majick as opposed to ancient Egyptian culture itself.
@alexess1970
@alexess1970 6 месяцев назад
Oh, also Crowley called himself the prophet of the Aeon of Horus, which is the current era, and there's an important theme of the overthrowing son related to that.

Angron is also possibly derived from angaria, which is Latin, and translates roughly to "forced labor". Which, if you know the Romans, you know they were big fans of putting their "laborers" in the Colosseum.

That makes a lot more sense with his story literally being Spartacus where GW's writers did the whole "can I copy your homework" meme

Magnus and his guys already take inspiration from Ancient Egypt in their aesthetics, so I think that Magnus' appearance is actually based on the Egyptian deity Horus. One eye? Check. Bird man? Check. Magnus is also red in both his skin and, much more importantly for the Egyptian connection, hair. Red hair was connected with being blessed in some way in Ancient Egypt. Ramesses II, probably the most famous pharaoh aside from King Tut, had red hair. That is my two cents.

Speaking of Alpharius, my theory is that the Omegon we see in the Heresy is actually the original Alpharius, Omegon who is implied to be active still in the 41st Millennium. This is largely based on the conclusion that the original Alpharius was not only loyal to the Imperium but also was far more secretive under the teachings of Malcador, while the Alpharius we see antagonize Dorn and get killed seemed more... out to prove himself?

18:02- Magnus is from the Norse, it translates to 'strong'. It has nothing to do with magi, which translates to "wise man", although it is a funny coincidence that it's also used for wizards, and just straight up funny considering Magnus for all his intelligence is a big fool.

I actually hate how Arbitor Ian pronounces a lot of these like Guilliman he pronounces the French way for some weird reason where he pronounces the double L like a double E sound, he says Au-ree-lian when its Au-reh (as in red)-lian, same with Alphaahhrius when the last A in alpha is pronounced the same as the first letter of the word so Ah-lph-ah-rius and Omega is not pronounced O-mee-ga, its oh-meh-ga

Alpha is also not pronounced the way all of you say it. It actually used the same sound as "father", and Beta uses the same sound as "elephant", and so on and so forth. Edit: Wait, did this guy seriously say: O-meeeeee-gon? Omega was one of the few Greek letters I'd heard most people say right up until now.
