How the Railroad Destroys the Institute - The Story of Fallout 4 Part 44 

I'm literally on my PJs, sitting in my living room with a huge bowl of cereal, waiting for this episode like a Saturday morning cartoon. Thanks, Ox, for reviving the inner child in me. Keep up the good fight

I wish there was an option to destroy the institute from the inside, without having to nuke it. Imagine giving the commonweath factions access to the Institute. Highly advanced tech, growing trees and engineered food. But instead, we just wipe it out in an instant.

Plot twist. Father transferred his mind and memories into child Shaun. Now he can begin rebuilding the Institute after getting his revenge on the Railroad.

In my playthrough, I found the other factions were just not what I wanted, so I sided with the railroad, and after sinking almost 400 hours into it, I finally completed that last mission, and then took my son to the workshop place on the island, and built a house for my son and I to live in, surrounded by plenty of security, and multiple settlers, all kitted out with full armor and weapons to keep us safe, and then shut the game for the last time. What a trip down memory lane!!!

The Railroad playthough to me is the most tragic playthough among the other factions. But there’s something about Ox saying “The only mercy we can extend to them is the pull out the Deliverer and kill them quickly, and quietly..”, then aims for the heads of his targets to do so, as if it’s going to be an unfortunate and tragic event, like Nate doesn’t want to do this but he had to. And then he proceeded to completely miss the literal target right in front of him, with 88% chance of hitting. That was the hardest I laughed watching an Oxhorn video.

Blowing up the Institute is one of the largest game mechanic mistakes, I believe, Bethesda has made. Nuking the Institute goes with the story just fine, but as a player I want to be able to clear out the institute to then use the facility for continued scientific research. Imagine if the Railroad or Minutemen could use the Institute's technology in betterment of the Commonwealth. There could be entire quest lines around inventing new technologies to grow food and cleanse water.

I hate the dialogue options with Father Shaun. No options to mention revenge for his mother. No options to mention he was kidnapped and brainwashed. No options to explain why he’s wrong. Just talking to him like a villain NPC, and not the driving force behind the entire plot of Fallout 4.

For me, at least : The canonical ending is a joint partnership between Railroad and Minute Men Creating a new organization that leads to the rise of a government in the commonwealth

I swear to God ox needs to be in the next fallout game as a companion who can give you lore about the game

Fun Fact about this mission: If X6 is your companion when staring it, he doesn't turn on you, he fight the institute with you and the railroad and remains a companion even after the end of the game, and this was definitely intended because he has unique dialogue where he gets mad at you for destroying the institute, but you're still considered an enemy of the railroad when he's your companion

The railroad ending feels much like the yes man ending

I really wish Bethesda would have gave options to take over the institute by the other factions.

I always thought it was funny that "Father" is surprised/offended that Nathan turns on he Institute when all "Father" did was release his own Dad into this world without any protection or assistance.

23:50 THIS is what happens when SOMEONE ELSE raises the YOUR child after KIDNAPPING THEM from you. The child becomes a TOTAL STRANGER to you, raised by strangers to BE a stranger to you, the ACTUAL parent of that child. Institute go boom. If I was in Nate's shoes, I'd DEFINITELY destroy whoever that destroyed my family (killed my wife and kidnapped the baby) instead of CALMLY letting us out as a family, CALMLY explain it all to us and CALMLY convince us to join The Institute like ACTUAL SCIENTISTS WOULD but nope, they just HAD to yank the baby and kill the spouse. Sadly, I NAIVELY chose The Institute side the first time through thinking that I could change them from inside... we all know how THAT went in The Institute ending...

Wallace being hostile actually makes perfect sense to me. Imagine going from an irradiated shithole which causes people to die daily let alone weekly, to the clean and pristine institute with working toilets and other amenities not to mention a perfect outlet for his intellect. Meanwhile [in this playthrough] you are fucking it up but blowing up the very place, the dream as I would imagine a lot of waste landers have. I'd be pretty fucking pissed to. Sure he got kidnapped but I can see him learning to accept it similarly to how father accepted what the institute did to him and his family.

Yknow, I wish Bethesda implemented a way to give the “Hi Honey” holotape to Shaun. I don’t think Shaun has ever heard the voice of Nate/Nora, nor really understand who they were. I feel like if Shaun received that holotape, it could change how he feels about the wasteland, or his family, or the institute in general.

i don't think Synths are people, Have you seen the size of a courser chip. That thing is huge, it's like the size of a coffee mug. That means there is a synth component, 1/2 of a (human brain or some kind cybernetic tech" like in Big mountain, you use to think with" ), and then they open the heads and install the courser chip. Because not all Synths have courser chips, so they are installed later. so I think all synths are just a personality matrix, like mister handy's and the Big Mt sink, and the other appliances. just they place these copy and pasted basic personality matrix, into the tech, they use as a brain. which is Why even after they are wiped and reprogrammed, they can still be able to disable with a reset code. The Basic program is just covered up with a new personality matrix( from the rail road).

The history of the railway is very good. It's a shame that there isn't a final option that unites the 4 factions.

For anyone having trouble clearing with going from friendly to hostile, mines... litter mines everywhere, and a well placed shot will turn the entire area to red mist. I did this for the brotherhood, filled prydwen with plasma/vaultbox and every other mine I had. Headshot a initiate and prydwen was turned into a red mist sauna.

I love Fo4 especially being from Mass. Its perfect and multiple mods to change everything. The only thing that tops Fo4 is a story from Mr. Oxhorn himself. Thank you for all the lore and stories. You give me something that my little brain wraps around.

After destroying the Institute, go back to the RR HQ and Desdemona will give a quest called To The Mattresses which consists of 6 parts. I'm guessing that will be in Oxhorn's next video.

I wish there was an option to side with the institute and stop them from replacing people and creating sentient life just to put them to work. I feel if the institute worked with people in the commonwealth instead of turning them into their enemy, then every other faction's reaction wouldn't immediately be "they need to go."

I never side with the Railroad but I have to say the Synth(Replicant) revolution is really cool. I like that it feels similar to Blade Runner 2049. Also even though it’s a bummer that all factions have similar epilogue cut scenes(not showing any long-term consequences), The consolation prize is that the reactions in the commonwealth are different for each faction(showing cool immediate consequences). I love how my Minutemen soldiers patrol the wasteland and sometimes they team up with BOS Knights in battle. Edit, 6:23 “That’s not your JOB” I think her voice cracked lol 😂

Ox: regrets having to "remove" the scientists in the Relay room. Also Ox: "removes" a scientist cowering in Bioscience. Ox in the rotunda: tries to spare scientists. Me: Make up your mind, man 😂 Shaun's terminal password is pretty easy to find if you don't like the hacking mini-game. Hope your computer gets sorted quickly! Tech issues are terribly frustrating.

I put "Father" out of his misery with the railway rifle his head was on the wall arcoss from him (also took his clothes because he didn't need them anymore) had Ava as companion doing the MM ending (somehow got the happy version the 1st time. happy version meaning that the other groups weren't hostel to each other)

I'm suprise that in the last interaction with Shawn, there is no options about your wife or husband death by the institute. While Shawn would say how dispicable you are for doing this, you could counter by saying that the institute took away the 2 most important people in your life. Killed one and braibwash the other.

A bit of a nit-picky thing, but Plato came before ancient Rome. The myth of the metals is also used to focus on different (positive) qualities in his conception of the ideal state/community: workers (bronze) are made virtuous by temperance, soldiers (silver) by courage, and philosophers/kings (gold) by the pursuit of knowledge. In his mind, selling this kind of view would ensure social order ans balance alongside specialist education and make sure the state would endure.

I don't know which faction you're doing next. But after the Brotherhood storyline, or the end of the entire series, you could make an extra video where you show all of the known synths in Fallout 4. As a member of the Brotherhood, you would have to kill them eventually.

I love that there are the synths directing non-combatants to the relay to get out of the Institute. That's amazing. You don't get that from any of the other factions.

That crazy Smoking Animation Glitch with Desdemona kills me. It WAS the bane of my existence, before I learned how to "fix" it. It would constantly cause Des to get stuck and miss her markers, blocking quest progression. Sometimes it would just cause her to take ages for her to get to her aforementioned marker(s). For those on PC, you can select her in console and type CAF. This will cancel her "animation flavor".

Just done my first railroad play through. Question is does anyone go full hypocrite and embrace synth "Shaun" or abandon it. Personally I abandoned it.

I think there should have been an option to use your new authority as Director to reform the Institute. Also, how many people on the surface were inside that blast zone?

Honestly it was so funny hearing "Take them out, quickly, and quietly" and then he pulls out a shotgun for the gen-2s 😂

36:16 bethesda should have used this moment to change this kids story to be Shaun's last effort for revenge on his father, by uploading his Consciousness into this synth child only to act like he's your son, where he can lead you to some situation that would take you out. you know that little quest synth Shaun sends you on where he wants you to find an object for him, well that seems innocent at first glance and the reasoning for the quest could be changed in some way, but it could be that the synth child creates a device to enact revenge on his father as a last ditch effort to get revenge for destroying the institute. maybe the little toy he makes infects the player with FEV or explodes and kills you or possibly almost kills you only leading you to destroy the synth child, but the twist is you find out the child is now gone somewhere else that you have no idea where he's gone. but the twist is this was not a program running in the synth Shaun, this was Shaun inside his own synth creation, the human version was dying of a disease but because of the choices his father makes ending destroying the institute with the RR or whatever faction the player chooses, he decides to upload his mind into his own synth child as a sort of failsafe to get back at his father and to escape from his father the SS, living forever in this synth child somewhere out there in the wastes, perhaps he will try to rebuilt the institute as a synth child, making it so the institute isn't truly dead, it's just been mostly destroyed for synth Shaun to bring it back from the ashes, only this time, he's fully a synth with all the knowledge of the institute and all their technology to bring them back as a larger more powerful force to be reckoned with.

The most annoying thing is I never get to say to Shaun how much I wish I'd had the chance to raise him, so that he wouldn't have lived his life as a psychopath, and could understand why humanity is better off without the Institute. And that's true even though A.I. will never be people, rather than machines.

I thought there was the password for Father's terminal in the dresser near the terminal so you do not have to hack it.

For some reason when I went into the one of the rooms x6 wasn't hostile and I recruited him. He helped me destroy the institute lol

The fusion reactor isn’t actually a weak point to the institute. All of the damage comes from the Railroad’s fusion bomb, and any radiation soaked shrapnel from the reactor.

I united the Railroad, Brotherhood, Minutemen, AND the Institute to fight the true threat: the Enclave We began as America began - scattered factions and united in a revolution. We then reorganized to create a new perfect union and thus the rise of the United Commonwealth of America rise from the nuclear waste

In my opinion this is the best ending.

I never destroyed the Institute with the Railroad. I did it once with the Brotherhood and several times with the Minutemen. Unfortunately, I got bored with Fallout 4 and went back to Skyrim and New Vegas.

So, untill railroad aren't attacked by the institute the quest with Z1 doesn't go on?
