Plot twist: she's been behind the bar the whole time. I feel like that's the kind of joke they would make. She hasn't been absent, she's just been below frame. But yeah I'm happy to hear she's returning.
I get that this would be another joke about her height and some wouldn't like that..... But I think it would actually be funny and that if she's still a strong girl whose able to handle things herself and can take a joke, then it should be fine.
If characters that were previously known for being single, such as Apu and the comic book guy, managed to get a permanent wife for the rest of the series, why can't Moe have that chance?
Because Moe ''joke'' i about him bieng depressed and lonely, so if ihe is not lonely anymore..sometimes i can'tignroe how Moe aged badly, worse he became a patter to be repetead,a lot of sitcons started making joks with depressed characters an to lan it not that bad make then disgusting as moe
I think the weirdest thing about Maya not returning is she isn't voiced by some big guest voice, she's voiced by a series regular. And as you mentioned, Kumiko reappeared a lot, and up until 2021, they shared a voice actress.
It reminded me of Zoidberg in Futurama who finally found love. I was sad we didn't see her again, but assumed it was because she was voiced by Emilia Clarke. Nothing holding Maya back like that.
Exactly. I myself can relate to Moe and I am sure many others can too. Going from what he used to be to becoming a stable partner gives a good premise for an episode.
I think they're missing the mark by not exploring depression a little further with Moe. Depression doesn't just go away when someone walks in to your life. A question many depressives ask themselves on a regular basis is "I have everything I want - why am I still unhappy?" It might be a bit heavy for the show, but I think an episode or even just a B plot acknowledging that Moe is wrestling with his feelings would help to add some much-needed depth to a condition that the show has played for laughs for so long.
Yea but Moe's depression has always been heavily influenced by the fact he is alone and lonely. I find some people are depressed about specific things, some people have a chemical imbalance which are the people who don't know why they feel depressed. Lastly there are people who have chemical imbalance and has things in life on top of that which depress them. That is just always how I have seen it. In fact when I used to go to the doctors they told me they were not for people like me because it takes to long and costs to much money. They are there for people who have specific problems which are making them depressed which the doctors are able to address and send them on there way quickly. He told me the system isn't made for people with more severe mental health problems. It is made for those which are the easiest to help so the numbers look good. They are only supposed to see someone for therapy for 8 to 12 weeks otherwise the person is considered to expensive and the money could be used in someone who can get better more quickly. It's really sad that the people worst off are least likely to get help in ontario at least
Honestly, the best solution can be saying Maya has to travel a lot for work so Moe is often on his own a lot. They are still together and very much in love they just have to balance their relationship around their work lives and Moe has to handle being away from his partner for long stretches. Not a perfect use since we do want her to evolve into her own character beyond Moe since we do need some good dwarf rep in media. This is just my idea on how to handle this thing.
Exactly! They could do that instead of pretending she doesn't exist at all. And just because Moe is married doesn't mean they can't make jokes about his other quirks.
Same thing happened to Comic Book Guy.. Kumiko was hyped up and turned into a background character after her appearance.. they both became lesser seen characters..
@@joseaguilar3323 I haven't been able to watch any of the newer stuff because I don't have Hulu.. but I did see the Season 33 episode (I think it was) and that was the last time I saw her..
Is quite weird weird how they chose to do this. Give Moe an episode were he reconnect with his Ex and at the end proposed to her and nothing never comes from it. I mean when Ned and Edna and Comic Book Guy from married that was an huge shift in the show for these characters they were now married with wives. Yet nothing yet came from Moe proposing to Maya yet. Are they holding off on it? Or did they simply just forget?
If any Simpsons character deserves happiness that lasts after the episode ends, it's Moe, and I'm glad a relationship finally worked out for him. And yeah, surprised we haven't seen more of Maya. I could understand a guest star, but she's voiced by longtime regular Tress MacNeille (Agnes, etc.)
Ever since seeing TheRealJims' "Selmoe" video, he convinced me that Selma and Moe would be great together, especially since Homer would hate that pairing.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks Selma and Moe would be great. Heck, they're essentially just genderbent versions of each other, so seeing them being cynical together and making Homer uncomfortable would be great imo
13:09 Yes, Moe was fantasizing about Marge, but a few seconds into the fantasy it changed by Marge saying “Moe I love… the way you introduced me to this new guy” (or something like that). This really shows how Moe has changed even if Maya hasn’t actually shown up in a while.
I get the feeling they want to keep Maya for an event. Like they plan to make some episode about their wedding or something related. Something about Moe getting cold feet and wondering if he deserves a happy ending, or if he's so used to depression, he fears happiness. The only two things I can think of keeping the character away is either they show's stories are non-linear or that Maya lives far enough away that they don't see each other often. Come to think of it, Moe hasn't been bottom of the barrel depressed since that episode where they got engaged. Maybe they're just working things out with how Moe would be if he was happily married or at least in a relationship.
They can keep the dynamic they have with Moe while keeping Maya around. She can cheer him up when he gets upset. They could also have fun together every now and then. She can still be the only person in town who likes him.
Hey Lyds. Dunno if you saw my DM on there but I just joined your Flying Hellfish Patreon. I struggled for hours with my dad to get onto it because my mum had parental controls enabled, finally got it working now and turned the controls off. Happy to be aboard, Lieutenant Lyds! What’s under Lieutenants? Am I even ranked at all? Guess I’m just a peasant. 😉
I always thought it was something similar to what happened to Apu. they did away with the character to avoid controversy, even if the the group the character represented wasn't necessarily portrayed in a negative way, but oh boy, thank goodness I watched the video until the end and saw there're actually plans to have Maya back
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL AS MUCH AS I LOVE THE SIMPSONS, I mean your editing is soo good can’t believe you don’t have 1mill already. Keep up the good work even if you don’t make your very talented!
Your review of this just slapped me in the face because I’ve been going through the same difficulties as Moe and this may have just given me the inspiration to write an episode for them
I love this episode thanks for addressing this! But could you do one about Colin? That kid from the movie that was Lisa’s boyfriend. Thanks love the channel! 😊😊
I'm so happy they are bringing Maya back. This will probably make or break the relationship and we'll finally have closure. Like a lot of us, I hope she stays. For one, it'd be easier to put her in episodes since Tress MacNeille is a regular cast member compared to a guest star of the week. And Lydia, the way you described Moe being perpetually miserable made me think of what Marvel has done to Peter Parker in the comics since 2007. In both cases, they deserve a happy ending.
As someone who has related to Moe more and more as I get older and have trouble finding my happy ever after I hope Maya stays. I really hope the two stay together for the rest of the show and be happy.
Maybe its hard to think of what to do with Maya's character herself, because he exists as more of a plot device, and to be taken seriously as a little person and doesn't have a silly quirk about her to play off of. I think they need to expand Maya and give her something to write comedy off of outside of Moe and unrelated to her being a little person.
I really liked Mia, it was really the first time you saw Moe truly happy. And they did work as a couple, that first episode always made me a little sad because they didn't work out. Especially the ending conversation with Homer the realization that Moe had found someone that loved him, Was both heartwarming and Sad. I hope Mia comes back and her and Moe can get married and live happily ever after. Moe deserves a happy ending.
This is so romantic and so lovely and happy when Maya came back to Moe. She is the only woman who has seemed to care about Moe all by himself, that Moe doesn't even need Maggie to look or feel like a warm and real gentlemanly person in front of Maya's eyes. I'm so happy for Moe that Maya agreed to become his wife and now I'm warning you that even if I ever get over it, still, now my happiness, in this situation, depends only on the power of Fate, which guides and decides the events of the time and place of the Simpsons universe, that the Simpsons- about the creators of the series!! If the same thing happens to Moe and Maya as it happened to Abraham "Abe" and I know how many times to Selma and above all to Edna and Skinner, IT WILL BE THE END OF EVERYTHING, DESTRUCTION, DISASTER AND THE END OF THE WORLD!!! As grumpy and dissatisfied with his life as Moe Szyslack is, he is still a nice and lovely man who has been avoided by everyone based only on his looks, even though he is capable of true love, as his relationship with Maggie has shown, for example, and he therefore deserves a wife who loves him as himself, and Maya is the right one for him even though there are other women but he is still the best at the moment! And if it happens to them like it happened to those people I just mentioned, then my heart will forever break for Moe, that lonely bartender who needs attention and the touch and love of a woman's hand!! But if they become a happy couple, husband and wife and maybe mom and dad too, until the final episode of The Simpsons and the moment when this whole story that started in 1989 ends, then I might be smiling for Moe Szyslack for the rest of my life and so will, say, tiny Tim said at the end of Christmas Carol, "God blesses everyone" and in this case that means Moe Szyslack and Maya too. So now Let's pray that the episode made for their upcoming wedding will go well and nothing bad and that something will happen that pulls them apart again, and this time maybe forever, and they will, as they always say, "live happily ever after!!!"
Oh I did love Maya. Eager to see her come back in that apparent follow-up episode, whenever it may come out. Moe deserves a happy ending too for being one of the most prominent side characters.
You know, It feels like whenever there's a new simpsons character that changes an old character's life, it feels like they're ignored for it could be like the episode restarted back to normal again
I'm glad to hear that news about Maya! Hopefully, she will stick around after. Edit: and hopefully they can use the fact she had gotten her PhD in their engagement episode to explain her absence
The "problem" with Maya imo really is just they made her such a good character that they are afraid they will screw it up. She's funny and charming in the way real people are so it's a lot harder to make her go as wacky as most of the people of Springfield. Also i'm sure they are extra wary about touching minorities without proper context after Apu but that can be mitigated by looking for a more diverse writers room.
My theory: maya is not real. It’s a figment of moe’s imagination/mirage/hallucination, because 1 he owns a bar so he gets them beer fumes inside him, 2 he’s been so lonely that he is going crazy, and 3 maya was moe’s imaginary friend because he’s just lonely and god said he needed a girlfriend. So i can conclude, maya was never real and even if the other characters saw her in the bar, they were probably customers who already drank and saw her through drunkness
There should be an episode where Smithers finally moves on from Mr. Burns and gets back with John. Seeing that toxic obsession for over thirty years is disturbing.
Im hoping Maya returns in Season 36 as the rumors circulate. Love that gal❤ and tired of Miserable Moe Sizzlack! Also AWESOME SET UP LYDIA! ❤ Looks great!🎉
"O Frajulous Day! Callou Callah!" Mr. Burns exclaimed this when he found True love on Flag day. One of the writers must really like Lewis Carroll's The Jabberwocky For me, the mail order bride epsidoe and Moes relationship trauma was heart breaking. Personally I think Moe deserves better that Maya, He did love her, but she was willing to leave him over miscommunication. He did not need to be short to be with her, he proposed to her before that. And in her second appearance, there was no apology for what she put him through, and was ready to leave him again without talking to him because of the trauma She caused him
I love Maya and Moe. When Moe blew it at the end of her first appearance, the ending was still bittersweet. Homer isn't usually a man with words of wisdom, but he really came through as Moe's friend. His dialogue about having one person who loved you means you can find love again, was a terrifc message. Probably one of my favorite heartfelt moments from the modern show.
When Maya left him in season 20, it broke my heart. So when they rekindled their romance and got engaged, it was one of the most satisfying endings of any Simpsons episode for me. 🎉 I hope that she becomes a regular fixture, if only through photos and mentions. However, it is my sincere belief that she and Moe are very happy.
@11:56, you mean a PROPER parental figure. In the Season 16 episode "Sleeping with the Enemy", Moe tries to insert himself into Nelson's family by proclaiming the "Four Muntzes" are reunited after dating Nelson's mum for a short while (the scene also had Nelson's dad in it)
I can’t tell but something pretty fishy is going on, but like, I’m theorizing she’s just an imagination because Homer is still in a coma dreaming all these things, and why the pink car gets fixed up so quickly for the next episode, but like it’s just, yeah The Simpsons are really confusing.
I was just thinking about them! Despite Moe being quite popular to ship with... at least 5 different people in my little corner of l'internet, I have only maybe seen like.... 3 drawings of Moe and Maya together. Sad. They're very cute. I'm more of a Moe x Barney person myself cuz I love some toxic old man yaoi lol, but I'm just happy when Moe is happy and Maya is very cute and I love her. Love how despite Moe finding himself ugly, he has quite a lot of fans who find him adorable. Me included! I just don't understand? Maybe they wanna milk the Moe-is-miserable jokes a bit more. You can make Barney the miserable lonely guy now, give him some more screentime while you're at it... I thought maybe her exclusion is because they would be worried of backlash, considering she's a little person. Glad to know there's at least an episode in the works about Moe and Maya! Honestly it could go either way... it would be delightful if they ended up legally adopting Nelson after Top Goon. Buuuut that's maybe getting a bit too ahead of myself. I just wanna see more of Maya being a little quirky, like that one scene where she pretends to be a doll!
I'm glad they brought Maya back rather than making her a one-off character. It would be nice if the writers comitted to the concept and made her and Moe a couple. One thing I've noticed is that Moe's Tavern has also had a few changes in the past few years. They removed the cigarette machine and killed off one of the beloved barflies. If they're trying to water down the bar as much as possible, why not give Moe a wife so he isn't so depressed?
I always loved Maya, I thought her and Moe's relationship was so sweet! A character that is really rough around the edges finding love in a sweet and understanding lady who has her own challenges to overcome. I wish they would do more with her, now that Larry is gone (RIP Larry) maybe she can become more of a regular at the bar? They renovate like a walkway so she can be at eye level with the regulars, and has her own short-barrelled shotgun to match Moe's.
12:50 Precisely. -> The "lone" days of Moe are over... ...when all the stories the writers NEED to tell (that require him as such) are told. [Countdown to Infinite Crisis]
You can do a video on Gloria, you know, she started out as Mr Burn's redemption love interest and the became Snake's girlfriend even though a little bit of the show's status
Maybe they could turn Maya into a ARG. that spans multiple episodes like WHO killed MR Burns. With maya's mother not approving of her marriage with moe, kidnapping her, and having Moe/ the audience figure out the clue's. and if they do it in time, Moe gets his happy end, and if they don't Maya will be written off/ eliminated, being never able to see moe again
Maya wouldve been a great addition. Moe's character couldve grown beyond just being a punchline and it would've been cool if she and Marge began to hang out, maybe have a few episodes of their own.
Ive got a bad feeling the new story mentioned (Given the scene where Moe still fantasies about Marge.) that Moe and Maya will break off the wedding because Moe wants to sleep around or some stuff. All for the sake of keeping Moe the same.
After all he's been through Moe deserves to be happy and with such a beautiful and kind hearted woman like Maya. It could be she is with her family planning the wedding. Hopefully when she finally returns she's there to stay.
I think it was a little harsh to not give moe another chance after explaining to him why it hurt and her boundaries between funny and hurtful. If he is remorseful accept the apology if not then say forget this person.
I'm happy that Maya is coming back soon. I even wanted to mention that in the comments. Maybe it really is the wedding. Or maybe they are planing and Homer and Marge try to help. Which ends in chaos (as always).
