Well Robin after Ennies Lobby is having the joy of her life despite all the danger. She is accomplishing her dreams while having a caring and fun family on her back.
I don't see Nami as a coward, but as someone who chooses not to fight until they have no choice. She's survived her entire life by being smart and avoiding direct conflicts, and I think it's been carved into her core.
Didn't Chopper also like embrace the monster thing. I think Zoro once asks him why his human form looks different in fishman island and he says he embraced the monster unlike pretime skip.
@@happygoku4159 I'm not sure which one, but I think it's when they're fighting the new fishman pirates or whatever hodys group was called. like when they're in the crater around when luffy uses conquerors on the 50,000 guys
Luffy's change is the most noticeable one. Sure he still keeps his goofy and laid-back personality, but he's more mature and has improved his leadership
sanji spent 2 years on okama island, it makes sense he would come back jaded and more perverted. The reason it lessened as time went on is because he got used to beeing around women again.
Zoro has also changed a lot after not seeing the others in terms of seriousness. Post Timeskip, he only laughed once which was with Pica's voice. Pre Timeskip, he laughed a lot and was just not as serious. He said himself he only sleeps when he feels safe. That's why Zoro slept when Sanji held him, showing he takes Sanji seriously as someone who makes him feel safe to be around.
Realistically it makes more sense for robin brook and franky to be relatively the same personality/growth wise other then their strength since the other straw hats are still maturing and growing up while they’re much past their young adulthood
I don't think you can casually group up brook with everyone else Robin and Franky are kids compared to brook who are still maturing Like old men compared to 30 year old men
I think Luffy has matured a lot. He realized in Marineford that he was being too cocky and that he wasn't strong enough. He's calmer now, he actually cares and listens to people's backstories, and he's become the leader he was meant to be.
@@jonathandesrosiers8154 that's the word, "captain". Luffy's decisions became more of a do or die for everyone. If they hadn't been 100 % confident in him, they would have died. His leadership became much more important.
@@laurocoman He may actually become a true king once they get to Laughtale. Someone who can hear others out, make fair judgment, and help whoever he can
Brook always gave me an interesting feel as far as his relationship to the crew (and he is one of my favorite members). He didn't even get to make it through a single full arc as a member before being separated, and I think that really shows in how he trys to protect the crew from Kuma, stating "even if it costs me my life". I think pre timeskip Brook was so happy to finally have a crew again, he was mostly focused on doing his best to play his part in the crew, partly as thanks for letting him join but also to make sure he didn't feel like a burden. Post timeskip he is still the perverted gentleman, but I think he is much more confident about his place, and realizes that since the crew is his family, and you shouldn't need to earn your right to be a member of your family, he is free to just be himself (which of course leads to him still doing his best to protect the crew, all while cracking BONE jokes and being a pervert).
I remember the quick throwaway line of Chopper(I think) asking if Brook would even come back to them since he was a big popstar now. And considering he had only been with them for weeks before the separation it actually seemed plausible. I've always wanted to see the alternate universe where that happened
This fits with his development as a pop star. Before he was a meek musician, and used softer instruments (piano and violin). But post time skip he uses loud pop star music and an electric guitar, almost as if showing his more content placement in the crew.
Robin is also more of a sister to luffy post timeskip, like how she knows how to perfectly understand Luffys ways. Example telling Luffy pinapple head to describe Marco.
Nami also started taking more initiative, in Punk Hazard saving the kids, in Zou helping the Minks and in Whole Cake helping Luffy, while in Skypiea for example, she got desperate when Luffy was fighting Enel. And I also like to think that Brook got more used to "modern times".
Yeah I noticed that i never really noticed her Dark Humor till fishmen Island in 2012, specifically when Usopp did her impression in prison. I was like "Did Robin really have that dark humor side to her all this time and I didn't notice?"
Even though Sanji is extra lovey dovey, since the time skip more women have begun falling for him. Violet, Pudding, even the chef who cooked for Germa found herself thinking of him. Which I found a bit ironic, yet appreciated.
@@catholicfemininity2126 Bro,you live under a rock? He was an absolute gentleman to the people the commenter listed and he is most definitely respectful when he needs to
The lady at Wano with the mouse seem to also slightly fall for Sanji's gentlemen side, I think she found a small crush on him as she got a little bitty jealous on Robin when odering noodles from Sanji in front of her.
Franky post time skip has become more dad like and less big bro. He feels like he might think that he doesnt need to embrace the punk badass leader feel as much anymore and can embrace a more laid back "dad-vibe" cuz he has his friends who know the real him and he can be comfortable to be less intimidating unless the time comes
@@bryansouza16 , I disagree with you entirely that since Franky was cucked by Jinbe from Fishmen Island Arc all the way up to the current Wano Arc is why Franky isn’t going to return to his Big Bro personality until he arrives in Water 7 agains after the Pirate journey is over.
@@sgrp2706 , Law I’m Dressrosa and Sabaody Arcs were like if Luffy was an angsty edgy protagonist whereas Zou to the current Wano Arc he’s like an overly serious character to the point he’s even more serious than Luffy and Eustass Kid in terms of his personality.
By the timeskip all of the SH's are completed characters with defined motivations and personalities. Even in an arc about challenging his ideologies Sanji's development was about sticking to his convictions in the end. The SH's growth is primarily focused on the goal to their dreams from this point forward.
I still think there's major charcter work left for Zoro, which we will get in Wano. We don't know what his motivations are to be the best swordsman nor do we know why he values the crew and Luffy so much. Along with that, a major charcter flaw for him hasn't been played up like they have been for other strawhats.
@@mfz1580 We don't know what his motivations are to be the best swordsman nor do we know why he values the crew and Luffy so much his childhood friend wanted to be the best she died so he took up her dream
For people who think Zoro wants to be WSS because of Kuina, you're terribly wrong. He already wanted to be one before she even died, the motivation for that is probably going to be explored in Wano arc. His background isn't entirely revealed yet. As for the backstory with Kuina, I think that's to buildup the main theme that has been describing Zoro, which is "promise". You have to remember how he was first introduced, he 'promised' Helmeppo he would starve for a month in order to be released. When Luffy wanted to help him, he refused. He only decided to escape later because he found out that Helmeppo has broken the promise. That, is how seriously he takes his promises with people. As of now, he has made two major promises, one with Kuina and one with Luffy, both of which he has kept the whole time. As for his flaws, it's obvious I think. For a swordsman, the most important thing is to respect his opponents regardless of their appearance etc. He has failed this countless times if you think about it. He has avoided fighting women seriously, like Tashigi and Monet, he also laughed at Kaku and Pica although he got angry at himself for laughing afterwards. In this arc, Zoro needs to overcome this flaw of his. Zoro is also very insecure imo. If you reread OP and focus on him, there are times when he say stuff like "if only i could cut wax/iron" "if only i could be stronger" etc. That's because he acknowledges that he is not strong yet. His standards are super high and he keeps training everyday because of the burden of promises that he has to keep. He probably thinks of himself as 'still weak' which is understandable because his backstory is about his losses. As for why I'm calling it a burden, is because his original swordstyle is Nitoryuu, the only reason he changed it to three swords is because he has to carry Kuina's will. For him it's not a preference, it's an obligation, a burden.. a promise. Also, the fact that such a small child chooses to carry two heavy swords in the first place shows that there's a reason why he decided to place that burden on himself in order to be stronger. I hope Wano will give us the answer
I'm not saying that is perfect, but i do think we need to keep in mind that one piece is a story that is told very very slowly, and a lot of times we feel like oda isn't doing something, but that's because he has plans for that in the future, the best example is Sanji, we had a sanji drought for a while, but then we had an arc dedicated to him and his past, and now his fighting a yonko commander. Because we don't see things right now in the story, it doesn't mean that we won't ever again. I personally think that after this arc, the story will focus a lot more on the SH again. Oda wanted to have a section in the story where Luffy was on his own, then 2 sections in which the SH were separated in two groups, now we're on a huge saga focused on hundreds of characters, but as we've seen before, it doesn't mean this is one piece from now on. I fully expect the story to not be a huge super saga with thousands of characters in every arc when we get to places like Elbaf and laugh tale.
Omg I so don't want any surplus of Side characters when we get to Laugh Tale, only the strawhats ALONE on the island. Maybe Blackbeard, it could work for a conflict if done right but MAINLY STRAWHATS ONLY.
@@mohamedab9033 yeah, i could see Elbaf focusing on the SH, on shank's crew, and on a few important giants, and I'm of the belief that laugh tale will be about have the SH, the Blackbeard pirates and them alone, having the grand fleet in the final island would feel very cheap to me, but luckily I have faith that that is Oda's plan, he's doing a mega saga right now, so he can have a few very focused arcs later.
I really like Chopper's growth as a character. He's like the closest thing to cabinboy that the straw hats have. His growth of understanding what it means to be a pirate, to be a straw hat, to be a man, etc.
There isn't much to go on for Brook anyway. He was with the crew for literally his intro arc before they were separated at Sabaody. So, for the most part he's gonna feel same-ish
I do think that there is a difference. Even after TS, Brook briefly (due to how crazy Sabaody arc was) showed mistrust on himself being able to be part of the crew. Even after he was accepted by every SH, the fact that he spend too much time alone in the past made him not able to believe that he could be part of somethng. During the TS, Brook lost his new found friends just a couple of days after meeting them (and after spending 50 years alone). Yet, despite of Brook having all the reasons in the world to be depressed again, he now realises that he is part of a crew, and now he has the mental strengh to understand it, and getting stronger for it. Yes, all Straw Hats focused on getting stroger for Luffy and for the rest of the Crew, but the confidence of being part of crew was a thing that all of them besides Brook already had prior TS, and that was the character progression for our pevert musician.
I think Oda has made Nami more motherly and even more impactful to the plot post ts. She made the decision to save the children in Punk Hazard. She played a motherly role to Momo. (This is really apparent on Zou when Momo was trying to appeal to Luffy for help) She made the critical decision to split the crew in Dressrosa and later helped of the Minks when they desperately needed help, a decision which in my opinion validated the Mink - Straw Hat alliance. And now she's bonding with Tama in a very special way. Edit: In WCI Nami had a very interesting yet overlooked role. She not only helped Luffy escape the territory of a Yonko, she took control on Big Mom's minions in the seducing woods, used her own special homie (Zeus) against her, then later permanently stole a part of her soul. People might now like it, but Nami is the key for Luffy to be able to control the seas as a king. Arlong understood that.
@@tomp3069 I'm on dressrosa and usopp fully pissed me off on my recent ep. @@jacktheman2360 I completely understand. But the big difference is that this is the first time he is risking his life for strangers. He had also planned to flee throughout. But I don't blame you at all if this didn't change your mind.
Brook's biggest change was in his confidence as a musician. It is the most subtle of the crew, but i can really only describe it as "he carries himself differently". Pre-timeskip, he was a humble musician who found joy simply from playing. Post-timeskip, he has a rockstar attitude which has almost completely changed his fighting aura. Gentleman swordsman to star of the battlefield who rocks every second of his stage time. Compare his pre-timeskip serious battle moments to his post-timeskip serious battle moments. I think the best way i can describe the practicality of the change is with his actions on whole cake island involving the ponegliph. Pre-timeskip, he would need direct orders from his captain to be motivated enough to take the "extremes" that he did. Post-timeskip, brook has the agency and confidence to act on his own to complete his objective. It really is hard to quantify in general.
I feel like Brook has some of the highest dedication to the straw hat crew for 1 reason, He was a member for only a mere 2 weeks before the 2 year timeskip happens. Imagine meeting these brand new people in your late age and start traveling with them for a couple weeks only for something drastic to happen and now your separated doing your own thing again for the next 2 years but I guess considering what Luffy and them did for Brook he would never forget about them.
the Brook point is a really good one. The man was a royal guard and later captain of his own crew making it deep into paradise. He lived a full pirates life and is over 90 years old. I think it makes sense that he wouldnt change to much in 2 years of training. In a way in fact it would have been weird for him to change as much over the two years as the other strawhats did
Ok hot take: I love, love, love Frankys post ts look! Much more so then his pre ts look. It just screams with character and the fact that he disigned it himself makes it all the better. Tank trads, weapon sholders, changing hairstyle are all SUUUPPER Franky! Also love how many of them are improved technologies from what he tried to do pre ts (e.g. goofy centaur became cool tank trads). The fact that he build it on the home island of the greatest scientist/ingeneur to date make it even better lorewise.
I love post ts franky in general. His legitimate excitement to show off his cool new cyborg parts to the crew and general upbeat attitude is just so infectious and fun to read. Definitely my favorite running gag in the series 😁
The major event that changed Franky was finding Vegapunks old lab and blowing himself up. Like Chopper embraced being a monster for the sake of the crew, Franky embraced technology even further.
A few remarks to add to what you said: - while Luffy is much more open about his goal, he is also much, much more aware of his powers and of its limits. A good example being that of Wano, where he knows that his usual haki will not be enough to get at Kaido, and he works in order to achieve that. - Zoro is much more relaxed because he is immensely more powerful than before, yes, but he is also much more aware of his surroundings. Sure, he sleeps through freaking battles, but that is because he 100% trusts his crew until he's good enough to fight, meaning that he did learn to rely on their strengths as well. And also, he does keep an ear open to danger. Example: him sleeping during the banquet at the end of the Fishman Island arc, and yet immediately being awake 0.2 seconds after being called in a severe tone by Luffy. - Robin's outfit is an important change as well. Before the timeskip, she was generally dressed in black and in a very classy fashion. After the timeskip, she is wearing whatever she really likes wearing and whatever is comfortable for her. Example: her outfit in Zou. As the whole crew, they have all come back trusting each other even more than before, because they trust that everyone has trained hard and will hold their part of the battle. This ends up with all of them losing attention sometimes, because others pay attention, falling asleep when they shouldn't, and generally taking their part of the cake and organically replacing crewmembers who might be overwhelmed, without even needing to discuss it. It's a great shift that, while it was already in motion before the timeskip, clearly has finished happening during the timeskip. Finally, they are all much more open about their positive feelings towards one another. One good example being Zoro who sees Luffy in Wano and has the BIGGEST smile in the series upon seeing him, or Nami jumping into Luffy's arms in Zou. As a whole, they clearly have all emotionally matured and have been so anxious to see one another again that they just don't care at this point if they look like children: they know what they're capable of, and they know how much they love one another.
I agree about Brook. Man is a veteran pirate that called the Pirate King a rookie and refers to 68 year old Big Mom as a young lady. All Brook needed was some shine.
Chopper came to terms with his identity and is ready to participate. Luffy is more settled in a leader role in terms of both taking inputs from the different members but also finding tasks that needs to be done and assigning them to members Zoro is more self composed and focused, before timeskip anyone could trigger him. After timeskip, only Sanji can ever trigger him and even that is rare Usopp is slightly more brave but seem more about to accept his own role as a sniper and diplomat taking upon himself talking and negotiating with unknown sides creatiny alliances for the strawhats on his own initiative. Nami is indeed more standing on her own legs in difficult situations, but more so. She has also become less egocentric and value more the need of the crew over her own need although she still has that side to her Sanji had a horrible era after timeskip until they got finished with fishman island. But ever since, although he still has his weakness for females. He did mature and actual grow into a more successful womanizer and reminds me more of a phantom figure in both dressrosa actually winning over a devil fruit user with the ability to see the true intent of people and used to guys falling for her, and again in whole cake island with another woman who has lived a life believing she is a freak but here is a guy accepting her for who she is and changing her heart again over this interaction. Pre timeskip Sanji would never actually succeed with his approaches with girls but post time skip has a pretty good record before wano. Brook pre time skip was unsure if he deserved a spot in the crew and rather hesitent with his own involvement never acting on his own and only when inspired by the actions of other crew members while post time skip. Brook is not only contributing with all he got, but taking his own initiative finding tasks that needs to be performed. At whole cake island he saw everyone else having their hands full so he did what nobody else even remembered about chasing the dream of Robin securing a copy of the poneglyph in BM possession so even if the mission would end without Sanji return, at least it wouldnt be for nothing. Franky character transofmartion seem to me to have happened more through the new era and during the time skip, i only see his upgrade. He did however seem to have become a bit more intelligent compared to pre timeskip and philosophic. Robin is hard to pinpoint how her character developed. If I were to say anything, I feel she is even less talkative than she was but not because she became more self centered. She seems to trust everyone in the crew more than she used to and she did get stronger yet. It feels like she has her own story that she never shared with them and it makes me curious at what actually happened in the 2 years they were apart. I am hoping this means we will get an arc where the revolutionary army is more involved. All of the crew members did get ready to contribute and pull their own weight more post timeskip where many was relying on how strong Luffy and partly Zoro+Sanji was pre timeskip. Now they are all pushing forward together and I was happy to see that being how they all matured into taking part. Although I wrote the least about Chopper I believe he went through the biggest transformation.
Robin shows her emotions more, Post-Timeskip, and even makes funny faces, like the rest of the crew. She also tends to use the same goofy names Luffy gives people.
@@Kaisona2017Robin has demonstrated deeper insight through her interactions with others, especially with Luffy. She clearly learned a lot from her time with his father and sworn brother, and as previously stated, she's still keeping most of her Intel from that time to herself for now. She will likely share what she knows as it becomes relevant to Luffy, or if prompted to by Sabo or Dragon. She excels at secrecy, like how she didn't tell Luffy about Sabo, she allowed Sabo to reunite with Luffy directly several arcs later.
Tbf brook was also the one who we got to know the least above pre-timeskip. He joined fairly recently before the split and was only around for thriller bark and sabaody. He didn't really need to be updated and revitalized the same way other strawhats, some of whom had been around since the start, needed to be. So that might be the reason he feels more same-ish.
Losing a loved one and going thru what he went thru including coming back from near death and war will mature anyone and have a clearer vision of your goal. He went thru a lot of life changing and traumatic experiences.
I think Brook had an absolutely massive change. His entire story arc in Thriller Bark was about him being stuck in the past, unable to leave his past commitments and regrets behind. He never once played music in all that time he had been drifting alone, the very thing that he loved most in the world, because it reminded him too much of his crew. He’s even still wearing the same ragged clothes from before he died. But when we see him again after two years, all of that’s changed. He’s not only playing music again, but he’s also using more modern instruments like an electric guitar. He’s got new clothes, a new persona, and a new reason to keep on living.
The only negative thing about sanji after TS i felt was that his gag was even more enforced and emphasised than before which was already getting way too old. But during and after whole cake island I think oda handled him pretty well in that aspect.
How many times have you watched Onepiece to understand it and create theories that feels like it is acutally in the story?I Love all of your videos man
man, I kind of miss pre-time skip Franky now that you point out his differences, not that I want him to be rough and angry all the time but he feels almost to mature now
This reminded me of that moment in wci arc when sanji went to help luffy escape the big mom pirates, the one where luffy sleept once sanji got him in his arms and flew
also during fishman island ussop and nami were very confidently taking on the fishman when they were trying to capture them due to the misunderstanding
The moment when Luffy got angry at the Beast pirates for spilling shiruko... It somehow feels different than the moment he cracked his fists at Franky house.
Another Great analysis Video of timeskip changes of Characters How come I never seen any other Op Creators analysis This at all? Thank U so Morj, I didnt realise so much changes at all beside Brooke. Pretty suprise and shocked.😂
one of the best signifiers of Chopper's growth as a character is the changes he made to his Heavy Point, before it was basically a large, furry man, but now it's unmistakably a humanoid creature. As Chopper himself says he gave up trying to blend in with humans to become a monster for his captain, fully embracing the family he has
One thing that could’ve made the timeskip better is from Dressrosa to now Wano is for the tension to be real. Like I don’t see the reason on how bad the New World is. Obviously Kidd losing his arm to Shanks, Crocodile leaving to go back to the Grand Line from his lost to Whitebeard etc. At the same time it looks like Luffy has been doing great in the New World without consequences. Even in the war arc that Wano is supposed to be, I don’t feel a Marineford or a Sabaody Archipelago type vibe from facing two Yonkos.
The whole point of the timeskip was to be sufficiently ready for the challenges ahead so that another Sabody could never happen again. Sabody was the biggest failure for the SH crew save a character death. It's your opinion, but the story has not lacked tension in its own right personally the stakes have only gotten higher but the crew can manage them where they would be all but destroyed beforehand. Also, FI was all about showcasing how strong they got it was intentionally trivial for them, why struggle there and invalidate the training?
I see you're point, and there is definitely a problem there, but that doesn't mean that it is clear cut. The times skip was to make sure our characters would be close enough to the level of a yonko crew, because they were eventually going to fight them, and if after 2 years of training, the strawhats almost died in their first arc facing opponents way stronger than them, it would have been a huge disappointment. Oda had to pick between 2 things, the strawhats being close to the yonkos, but still weaker so they have to go beyond their limits, or, have them at the level of hody and Caesar, after two years of intense training, conceptually it wouldn't have worked. You can't have them loose in sabaody and marineford, and then having them train that hard, and not make them demolish their first few opponents.
@@salvadorsalgado5212 I agree, I understand Fishman Island it’s their test to show they belong. My problem is Whole Cake and Wano. Having direct contact with the Yonkos they are still being able to escape situations that other people would die from. I know they are the main characters and won’t die, I just would like for the Strawhats to actual seem like they care about the situation. It’s hard to explain what I mean. Whole Cake and Wano are the two arcs with little tension in my opinion. I understand the first two arcs.
@@nicholasalexander9866 yeah i get you, that's why I said that I agree on a problem being there. I personally did feel the tension in whole cake, but i haven't that much in Wano, i still really like it, specially because it's my first time reading an arc weakly from the very beginning, but i still feel it lacks something there. Unless the big mom pirates reach the mainland and join the enemy forces, i just don't believe the odds are against them, i don't see the SH loosing their one v ones, and i haven't really felt the "deaths" of the scabbards. The one threat that i do feel is kaido, that guy is just terrifying to me 😂.
@@nicholasalexander9866 I mean Pedro died and we don’t know what happened to the Fishmans and the Germa 66 in whole cake islands. Yasuie also died just to make sure that the alliance has at least a chance to fight. But I see what you mean, like how the straw hat crew feels invincible compared to other characters (allies, rivals or even enemies).
I've expressed this sentiment before on another video comment section, but there is also how they changed as a whole. Pre-TS the Strawhats were really just another contender in the ladder of the Pirate's world, so just a scrappy pirate group with a lot of heart barely making it through the Grand Line's various challenges. Post-TS they feel more like heroes.
I really love how Chopper has become more of a leader post-time skip. He understands more what needs to be done. It's a travesty Oda is keeping his bounty so stupidly low.
I actually miss the more funny and casual side of the crew pre time skip. Something I really noticed is that pretime skip, Luffy and Ussop intentionally made jokes about different stuff and about each other very often, while post time skip it's like the find themselves in "funny situations" I don't know if that makes sense but that's how I see it. They even used to joke about how serious Zoro is and try to tease him a little bit, which is something rare to see now. Maybe life was simpler back then, who knows
Nami and Ussop are the only normal human beings in the crew with no powers or ridiculous strenghts,so even though they seem cowardly they are just realistic and pick their fights
