That because the Makers of The LEGO Movie to have the CGI Characters & Props & Sets & Environments, to look like stop motion, kinda how South Park used Computer Animation to make their Characters look like 2D-Cutout Stop-Motion
I always find animation so fascinating, so hearing the voice cast talk about the film itself is so exciting. It's awesome how they manage to animate every single part so pristinely. It's amazing to think about how much effort people put into that.
I imagine if it was stop motion it would've taken ages to complete Just thinking of the explosions and the way the water moved would have been to much to do the stop motion route
They did amazing job with CGI, the lighting and textures look very photoreal, it made me question many times during the movie whether it was stop motion animation with dolls or 3d, because it looked so amazingly photoreal!
Jak Saward so then they can just be lying and it would be easier for them to do it on computer! I call bull shits!! but thank you for telling me jak saward.
BigHippo777 What does it matter when in the end the product looks good? CG is also very hard work. I also love stop motion but by no means am I disappointed that this isn't it.
At least they made it look not obviously CGI animated. They did a very good job making everything look like actual legos and look very stop motion like instead of being obviously CGI.
Why? It looks like stop-motion? Is it not the end result that matters? And it is basically stop motion. You still have to move the characters, change the face, pose them, etc. It's the same thing, but digital, so less time consuming. You do realize, I hope, that just because it's made in 3D that doesn't mean that "Oh, a computer did it, no work went into this" ..
It seems as if the answer to the question "Is The Lego Movie CG or stop motion?" is "Yes." While it's true that those are virtual bricks, they move in the same way stop motion real bricks do with at least 99% accuracy in my estimation.
Actually, they did use stop motion for a few scenes. But they blended the effects so well you can't tell one from the other. Your initial reaction is that it was all done in stop-motion.
I thought they did 46 fps...Because it was really fast and they had flat tile pieces for flooring...But they used a computer which saved more time...But actually saves momey if they did'nt ask the animators for what money they wanted...If stop motion it would cost around $70 billion worth of lego bricks and time building
Who gives a sh*t that it wasn't stop motion. The fact that they animated it in cgi to look so accurately close to the real thing is even more astonishing.
@newport OG None of it was actual stop motion but rather a combination of photorealistic textures and variable low frame rates in the animation was specifically designed to give you the impression that it is. It's highly stylized and masterfully done with small defects that would be bi-products of the traditional process.
I'm sure there was a blend of some stop motion. But for a movie that's as visual as this was it would have been WWWWAAAAYYY too much for it to all be stop motion.
All this talk about it being stop motion or CG... We're dealing with plastic models here, not clay -- meaning that in this case the only difference between stop motion and choppy animation is the graphics quality -- which was top notch, meaning no difference at all (you might even say choppy animation looks *better* than current miniaturized camera technology). The key thing to take in, though, is that the latter also brings with it the option to *selectively* make things stop motion. So while the camera moves around smoothly, some of the characters, particle effects, water simulations, or explosions might individually be, or not be stop motion. The animators were able to apply stop motion *artistically*, where it looked best, and they certainly did a good job, if you ask me. As for stop motion or CG being easier/harder than each other, I'd say that both are extremely difficult. I don't think a stop motion artist would have an easy time doing CG, and I don't think a CG artist would have an easy time doing stop motion. They're different art forms and each have their challenges and limitations.
IN the long run it made more than box trolls because of products and licensing deals. Box trolls is not however by any means a bad movie, its stop motion magic!
Everyone debating how much was stop motion… does it really matter? One way or another they achieved a perfect illusion of real lego bricks moving around. That's enjoyable no matter how it was accomplished (though I understand the desire to know the process).
Warner Bros.God bless you!!!!!And Lego also!!!!I LOVE IT!When I was nursery I watched the Lego Movie. And it was awesome as ever!God bless you all amen!
awe man, I thought the lego movie was stop motion, because they made it look soo much real, so the only parts of the lego movie that featured real legos wee (spoiler deleted) and the part where emmet goes to see (spoiler deleted)
The comedy the cast the storyline the song everything is awesome is the best ... my favorite part is how they always take a huge dump on our natural world and society... like lord business commercials like in control of music, agriculture, the sports, all the oil companies, etc etc and than goes.onto say taco Tuesday and honey have you seen my pants emmet starts laughing and says "what was I thinking about" .... "ah who cares I'm so happy" hes laughing at like sitcom TV shows in other words the people in control always say their say but then they implement on their own news stations tv shows that make us laugh or think about other issues basically about each other like steve harvey show or Ellen like talk shows idk and for a week or however long some other huge topic to get your mind off the shit that you ought to digging into... and also how the chick is like wildstyle " hey guys I'm on tv so you should believe everything I say" these little parts made me laugh so much cuz I caught them everytime... good cop bad cop dude guy was so funny batman was prolly the best tho... wildstyle and Emmett talking in the air duct they about to hold hands batman drops down like "what are you losers doing?" LoL and batman goes who's lucy??? Lololol and than batman the best part they list three different space ships to build the first one they named of them was a bat spaceship or something and batman goes "one of them would of been really cool"...lolololoo dude I just saw the movie like this week sometime so I'm all refreshed with material I dont have photographic memory..... anyways prolly on my top 5 fave movie list to b honest Peace
AdamDoesAnimations Lego Animations Most of what they showed in the video is using Softimage (used to be called XSI) - while Autodesk stopped development on it - it is still available in a bundle with one of their entertainment and creation suite products.
