Saving money is losing money, investing, buying, selling and trading everything. Even if it's something simple like this, I came across Borox cleaning powder on Amazon that is selling for 27 bucks for two boxes, a single box in Walmart you can get as little as 4-5 bucks. Guess what it sells and you haven't even gotta spend anything upfront. why save that extra 100 dollars down the back of the sofa, buy gold , that 100 bucks will be worth less in 12 months than it did today, gold however will always hold value for the most part. Pretty much forget everything you've been led to believe about saving because it's a lie.

If I give my child 10,000 and he uses that to then hustle his way to a G wagon and a Rolex before he turned 20 he still accomplished something that almost no one at that age can. Don’t discredit the achievements of others focus on achieving things for yourself. To your second point, materialism does not lead to happiness directly.
