If you've been brave enough to take a glance at Twitter over the last few days, you'll likely have seen the video of Ross Chastain wall riding his way to NASCAR Championship Contention at Martinsville! It was truly insane, and here's how the whole story unfolded, with a few cheap jokes thrown in!

Chastain's family are watermelon farmers. Watermelons paid for his early career. That's why he smashes a watermelon after he wins. It'll be interesting to see if he has an epic watermelon stunt planned if he actually wins the championship.

This move by Ross is the Motorsports version of the shot heard around the world. Literally everyone is talking about it and even non fans of NASCAR are going to tune into the finale just to see what happens. No matter how convoluted the format can be, even you were having trouble explaining it (been there done that), the hype generated by the move alone has people buzzing. Despite the downs of this year, 2022 still proves to be amazing for Motorsports 😎

The thing is that Phoenix raceway is a weird track, either it can have really good racing with many overtakes or average to below average racing. Us NASCAR fans don’t think it deserves to be the last race as another track homestead Miami has provided better racing as a finale over the years and because it’s a track we’re very used to seeing as a finale
@NN010
@NN010 Год назад
@@gordonsmontecarlo2493 I used to watch NASCAR about a decade ago. Why did they move the finale from Homestead Miami to Phoenix Raceway? Gee, now I know how long-time F1 fans feel about Interlagos (Brazil) being upstaged by Yas Marina (Abu Dhabi) for the final race of the season...
@gordonsmontecarlo2493
@gordonsmontecarlo2493 Год назад
@@NN010 Because the owners of Phoenix spent more money to have the finale hosted at their speedway( like Abu Dhabi stealing Sau Paulos date because of money). It bums me out a bit because homestead has been home to some great racing and best moments of the 2010s of NASCAR. I’d still definitely recommend checking out the finale at Phoenix since the racing is bound to be wild especially with the new stock cars
@gandalf_thegrey
@gandalf_thegrey Год назад
@@NN010 As an average F1 enjoyer I feel your pain. Interlagos not being the finale hurts every year. So sad that other racing series suffer the same. I'm not a fan of NASCAR racing and cannot keep entertained for an entire race but I can deeply relate to the passion and enthusiasm these fans have. In my early teens I realized we are not so different after all. Motorsports is crazy no matter where you do it. I hope NASCAR recovers from their slump, we can't lose the crazy stories.

Good to see NASCAR getting some reperesentation in wider media. Before I was an F1 fan, I was a NASCAR fan. It's a tremendously underrated series with a rich history. Also I believe Chastain was only a full-time Cup driver since last year? I've paid less attention the last two seasons, but I know he wasn't full-time in 2020. Though lower-series drivers are often given chances to start in select races, so that's probably why you said he started in 2017? Regardless, cool video! Poor Denny gets screwed out of a title every year haha.

If you're up for it Will, I'd like to see you do comedy reviews for either the 1979 Daytona 500 or the 1992 Hooters 500 in NASCAR. The 1979 Daytona 500 is the race that got NASCAR attention from the entire US for the first time. It was an exciting race from flag to flag with superb racing, a lot of wrecks, and a post-race fistfight caught on camera. The 1992 Hooters 500 meanwhile is arguably the best race ever in NASCAR, which started with six drivers who had at least a mathematical chance to win the season championship, a ton of drama, Richard Petty's final hurrah, and ending with the most unlikely champion in NASCAR history. Both have been covered extensively, but as far as I know, they've never gotten comedy review treatment. Given how hilarious you are and everything that happened in both those races, they're goldmines for your wit.

For us Europeans he did an Alonso! Alonso is known for his cheeky moves like cutting corners but doing it in such way that it’s legal. Most of it first lap “incidents”. Like you charge with the field to the first corner, big chaos, and to avoid collision this it’s allowed to cut of the track to continue without damage. Well, he just charged of the track and gaining many places. In every other part in the race he would have to give those places back, but like I said, first lap, first corner there are some possibilities to get away with it. After this they really watched if it was intentional to gain or to avoid damage. I love this kind of thinking, it’s inspiring.
@dirtybirdsrise
@dirtybirdsrise Год назад
Earlier this year at Indy, Ross Chastain purposely missed the first corner during the chaos of the final restart. The access road he took put him next to the leader. At CoTA he got his first win in a pretty chaotic way as well. Dude wants to win at any cost.
@aaronmachado13
@aaronmachado13 Год назад
Great video especially coming from someone who isn’t really involved in the series. Honestly the reason this move was legal was because literally every time it’s been tried before by Kyle Larson and Carl Edwards, it was in the older cars which had high profile tires and weaker body panels so if you so much as touched the wall, you’re destroying the car. this new car has low profile tires and carbon composite body means that the body is stronger and hitting the wall is less likely to cut your tire down. Also because more often than not, you’re destroying the car as friction from the wall is literally tearing the car apart with Ross saying now that car is totaled.
@laurenmp7486
@laurenmp7486 Год назад
And for those not familiar with NASCAR, totaling a car isn't a problem, since teams are allowed to change cars any time they want just as they can change engines and transmissions as often as they want. Sure totaling a car isn't great for a team's budget, but the bigger teams just assume they're going to have cars totaled during the season, so no big deal.
