The Souls games (except DS2), Sekiro, Elden Ring,Bloodborne and most recently Armored Core 6 (The Fromsoft touch) . Theres also the very obvious Baldurs Gate 3 (Larian Studios)
Hello Games. NMS went a very long way since launch, and its one of the few games IMO that deserves the triple-A price tag, even if it is almost permanently on some offer.
BattleBit Remastered showed us all that 3 passionate devs can create something out of a dream that a multibillion dollar company cant. The secret to it all is passion.
Well said! This is why I'm always a huge fan of indie projects like Battlebit, where the creativity brung upon them is a breathe of fresh air from the homogeny we have unfortunately experienced.
If I'm being honest, let's be real, steam charts aren't representative of a game popularity in major scales. We know battlefield are mostly played on origin, at least the bf1 and bfv. The best example of this is steam Japanese games like master duel and heaven burns red, people only play steam heaven burns red to buy gems at cheaper price, the same as master duel on other platforms, that golden joystick most played card game in Asia japan playstation is not a joke.
Lol people will buy the game no matter what they already have the fan base by the balls. Just like COD, Gears, Halo name a franchise that keeps to their true origin. All of them shaft their playerbase now and they know they can. Normies will eat anything up
No it really doesn't, this game is nothing in comparison. I love when people just come on this platform to spout nonsense, I heard this all doing Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 buggy days. People said back then that these specific games coming out where a wake-up call for dice and EA no it wasn't, they could care less about this game. This game does not worry them they literally don't care.
Battlebit is just what every battle field fan wanted no microtranactions minamal bugs and a great gameplay loop, really insane to think that 3 people can make a better game than a huge established studio
Huge established studio can make a MUCH better game if they want to. The problem is _thats not profitable for them_ Oh and lack of passion can hurt that too. The devs of both deserve all the respect, but I'm just tired of people acting like making a better game with passion than a group of overworking people whose boss only cares about making a half baked product really fast for profit. (By the way, development is very damn hard, and people have to overwork till they pass out because of ridiculous deadlines, so hate their bosses, not them. )
@@shawermusYeah nobody is blaming the devs of course. The same is in vfx industry and that's why we get garbage CGI(like the flash) It's not that the artists or devs suck they are just in a bad place with bosses who only care about profit.
@@shawermus It is profitable for huge established studios to make much better games, but they take a little risk compared to the safe shit stuff they usually do. They can make profits as they do now, but they could make so much more if they made great games.
@@Sinister_Salamanderidk everytime I play an AAA game it's infested with kids and teens. Playing battlebit I was matching with people my age and daddy gamers.
Biggest issue of EA is how they intentionally leave out old and wonderful games like BF1, TF2, BF4 to die. People still love these games and want to play. However it takes 2 mins for u to run into hackers once u try multiplayer. Anticheat in these games is a joke
What's funny is that titanfall is now making a huge comeback with 22 thousand players playing yesterday. After years of no updates and chaos for the cheaters and ddos hackers, this wonderful game is rising yet again.
It's not like they aren't a multi billion-dollar company that needs to make money for their hundreds of employees. No way who would have thought, who would have thought that only three developers don't need a lot of money.
@@lastsong7159 if telling the truth and the facts is bootlicking we are fucked as a species, with that logic telling the truth about the insides of any company could be licking their boots, I assume you don't know much about business or owning a company at all so who are you to criticize me? Tell me do you really know anything about owning a company or business in general, I honestly highly doubt it but I guess we can't have knowledge of the inside of a company and how it works cuz then you're licking their boots. Lmao There's a huge difference between three developers and hundreds of professional developers, a company is a bit different than a couple of indie devs. Don't respond with the emotion and anger if you're going to make a reply be logical I really don't know who you think you are but you're not that person.
@@lastsong7159 all you do is sit around on the internet watch videos about how bad these companies are and just repeat exactly what those people say you have no actual knowledge of business and walk around blind acting like you're a professional. Watching anti company videos does not make you a professional in business, but if pointing out that there's a big difference between three developers and hundreds of developers makes me a bootlicker the only thing I can say is we are evolving just backwards.
Lol, must be nice to live in this fantasy world of yours. Without those corporate suits to actually run the business side of things virtually none of the games you enjoyed would exist since the vast majority of game companies used to go bust because they didn't know what the fuck they were doing. If you want a world in which only indie devs exist, you will be very disappointed when there's no games being made because no one can make any fucking money. I can almost guarantee that the devs of Battlebit have made a loss on the game so far, because it's going to be costing them thousands of dollars a day just to keep the game servers running. You just wait, the microtransactions will come or the game will die. The reason why BF2-4 worked so well was that the servers you played on were mostly run by the people playing the game, it didn't cost the devs anything, now they run their own servers and they pay for them, they need a way to fund that cost and tada, microtransactions.
@@bipolarminddroppings Far as I'm aware, servers don't actually cost too much to keep running. And your logic doesn't really add up when you take into account the vast swathe of online games that explicitly don't need to resort to MTX ect. to stay running. Things were just fine before the plague of 'live-service' infected the industry. The reason modern AAA games need so much fucking money to even stay afloat is because they keep pumping utterly absurd hollywood numbers into superfluous visuals ect. so they're absolutely desperate to so much as break even as soon as possible which leads to crunch and layoffs - and THAT is what isn't sustainable. There were, and still are, ways to maintain the business side of things without becoming a black hole of money. I ain't saying things are as simple as us VS them but you don't need to defend the shareholders. They are the only ones truly benefitting from the current AAA model.
Even many RU-vidrs and devs from other projects like Elden Ring and more recently BD3, you create your game based on passion and love, managed by people with artistic minds rather than business suits. Congratulations to the devs and community of Battlebit to put EA in its place.
I hate these comments because it's not putting ea anywhere. After so many years of the community putting out the same comments for the current game in the battlefield series you would think that they're dementia would eventually wear off and they would realize that they've done this before. In the community would realize that they simply doesn't care and this game isn't harming them in any way. I guess when you have dementia though you don't remember that you have dementia
@@nines3580 no EA doesn't care about this game this game has nothing against battlefield. This really isn't the battlefield killer everybody saying it is it's just not
@@nines3580 now you're right this is what's called the battlefield sago ucea and dice have realized that they can release the most buggy broken game ever it won't matter in a few years when they patched it out people will praise it has a good Battlefield game when the next game is released in the same state. The community is the cause of this problem but they don't realize it because they're so blinded by EA bad but they don't want to say community bad, they are actively allowing EA to take advantage of this. The cycle will continue until the end of time, also I might add that they get upset any time that a game gets delay it but don't understand that if the game was released at that time it would be buggy and broken so it's almost like they want these games to be broken. I know RU-vidrs do because then they can profit off the hate that the game will receive for being in its current state people for some reason don't seem to understand that RU-vidrs do this, they also start to praise the game after their hate bait isn't getting enough money anymore.
and while the artists are doing that, who is running the company? who is making sure everyone gets paid? who makes sure that there's enough money coming in to keep the lights on? The suits. Battlebit devs will soon face the choice of either going bust or putting microtransactions in the game to fund the cost of further development and the running costs of the servers (which is already going to be $1000's per day). We will see then whether they will continue to fix the game at the same rate or be forced to slow down fixes and updates in favour of making the game profitable, my bet is on making the game profitable, because why else would you bother? I'm a professional musician, I don't perform for the fun, I perform FOR MONEY. The fact that I love doing it is great for me but ultimately, I do it because I need to make a living.
To say it killed Battlefield is misleading, honestly. Battlefield killed itself first before Battlebit pulled the trigger lmao. If 2042 was good as BC2/BF3/BF4 then it would've survived and Battlebit would've been a good competitor to it.
Don't get me wrong I love the game but the playerbase is already dropping at a rapid pace. I don't think it killed Battlefield at all but it's a great work of art, love and passion from OG Battlefield fans.
I mean... it's not even on console. We heard this about WW3 and HLL and... yeah. Enjoy it, but it's not killing shit if most of the BF playerbase can't even get it...
If I remember correctly they added a special pack on Steam (I can't check so not sure) that doesn't give ANYTHING special but just exists as a extra way to support them. I think it's great. You don't get forced to get it because it's more stuff you just support them
I did check, and although it does come with some skins and guns, most people reviewing the Supporter pack said they just bought it to support the devs, which is really cool
Great video! I remember being frustrated how close it seemed to release and even trying some of the old hardcore playtests, but appreciate you sharing why it was like it. These devs seem awesome and I want to try it for real now.
The actual key to their success was 2:28, "Running joke in the community". There was a community, that was having fun with each other... Thats the key to success; have one of those.
@@Dr.Breen17 Yes because the game is becoming very good again, even better than BattleBit there is a non existing hype that battlebit is better than battlefield for some reason
@@Mikehawk906 Nope i'm talking about steam lol battlefield has more now and that's excluding the EA app too which if you added that it would have 10x more players lmao L
That's how it should start- the graphics can be limited but the gameplay and story/reward concepts have to be on point for (dare I say it) crowd funding.
I think battlebit: remastered only succeed because of the game being fun and the game being better then the new battlefield game out now and great video man :]
its really nice hearing stories about indie dev's succeeding but tbh i think we need more triple A devs with a passion for their fans maybe like capcom with monster hunter, monster hunter gets a lot of free DLC updates
Amazing content, need more personal interviews with the devs to really see, not a controlled scripted apology or video. Just straight talking about the gaming industry and what it took to make something great. Amazing video man, just earned my sub
I love the fact that the dev is humble enough to make Battlebit accessible for multi people. It is cheap and not system requirements demanding, yet the experince is still in there! Love battlebit
I love what Battlebit tries to accomplish, being a competition to bigger game title. We need more of that. Sadly tho player count dropped drastically, so something is missing 🤔
@@berengerchristy6256 It's being updated with new stuff, so I think the play count dropping is the usual up's and downs with games. People have to live their lives.
I definitely like this trend. More and more games from independent developers are becoming more popular than their counterparts from major studios. Battlebit, Battle Brothers, Deep Rock Galactic, Valheim, etc.
biggest games on steam by player count: Dota 2 CS2 BG3 PUBG Apex Legends Cyberpunk 2077 TF2 GTA V War Thunder. Please tell me which one of those games is being made by an indie dev? Oh that's right, none of them. Battlebit is just the latest FOTM game that will have no players in 6 months because either it won't exist or the devs will have been forced to add all the things gamers say they don't want but still spend their money on... If BF2042 were released on the same day as Battlebit, which game do you think would have had the bigger playerbase? BF2042 is older and it holds its player numbers, Battlebit has already begun to bleed players since this video was made.
@@bipolarminddroppings On one hand yes AAA games have more players per game, on the other for every AAA game there is thousand of small games, so maybe question is if top AAA can match top 1000 indie ones. Or maybe if game is growing, being developed/supported, is loved by community, then maybe that is measure of success too? Or maybe how much money it makes compared to development cost? For instance Deep Rock Galactic is great game with developers that are not trying to exploit players and excellent and friendly playerbase, that is what I would call success, not just for developers, but for gamers as well as these types of games are better for us.
I guess you can call this Era, the Era of Revolution, where passionate players will make their own version of a game that triple-A giants couldn't do or won't do, even though it's highly demanded. They care about money, so the people revolted to create their own games for fun, attracting those that love it, and they start to make money and hopefully grow into a company that was meant to entertain and give joy to the people while also making a profit.
Crazy thing is however, most big companies nowadays started off as a small group of developers which had lucky/good events in their timeline that led to what the became now. While a lot companies just decided to continue making the best games they could, other’s started to slowly make their games for money. Which is quite unfortunate.
@@Burning_Marshmallow Just like nations. Started off small and humble, then at some point, Revolution. Then years of stability until another revolution happens, and then another, and another. You can say this is the first era of Revolution for the industries. Not a revolution for creating something new, but a revolution for breaking the norm and giving the people what they truly want.
@@SimCityEA1989You bet there will be a revolution in creativity after so many years of drab, soulless, rehashes and forced almost minimalism, there will come a time of a lot of experimentation again.
Indie games are taking over the court, tripple AAA coperations won't live much longer. And I'm here for it. I'm a jr game developer, and i love hearing about the passion.
Damn the devs really said. We made a game for people to play and have fun. But also mainly for us to play. Damn some AAA games dev never actually played their games top to bottom.
I think battlebit is beating 2042 not because battlebit is amazing but because 2042 is awful. People still want the battlefield experience and 2042 isn't it so a lot of people moved to battlebit because its a closer battlefield game then the actual current battlefield. Battlebit is lacking a lot the movement is kinda bad same with the sound of the footsteps, i couldnt enjoy it cause how bad the footsteps were. If battlefield 2042 was a good game battlebit wouldnt have got much of a following.
It's like the whole world is changing for the better right now somehow after some really dark times.... And I'm all here for it. Thank you to the people like this that basically tell big AAA games "go to hell if you don't wanna support us, the people who make your living"
The battlebit devs have gotten so much praise and people now caring for the game they have made that if they decided to make a few minor cosmetics like interesting weapon camos for like 1$ or something, I bet they would have a lot of people buying just to support the 3 man team. A game with microtransactions are only good if the devs use that money to keep a loved game going for so much longer than how EA treated BF1, 4 or TF2.
Being both a gamer & Indie dev working on my own solo project I think its about indie devs making games from passion rather than what can make us money fast like alot of AAA companies do
I see you’re covering indie games made with actual passion, I recommend you cover Deep Rock Galactic. Since last year it’s been my personal relief when looking at this barren wasteland of mid, unfinished AAA games. DRG is a game that deserves recognition not only because of how fun it is and its community but especially the relationship between its players and the Devs.
DRG is fun but becomes repetitive after few hours, at least to my taste. And I do stick to a game I like for hundreds of hours or more (Factorio, anyone?)
@@barabararossa honestly I can’t relate, cause I’m addicted to DRG currently, but I see where you’re coming from. Tbh you could say the same about destiny and such games I guess
its almost the same player count as 2042 and it has less players than BF5 now so I wouldn't say its killed BF. Its like most games that blow up, people hear about it, they buy into it and then leave when they realise its not really all that much better than what is on offer. I think I put around 18hours in before thinking its ok but its more or less a worse version of old BF games mixed with squad.
I've sunk 130 hours into it and it really is inferior to older Battlefield games. The lead dev has even definitively said he's not going to add a lot of content that was in Battlefield. Now that their focus is solely on balancing, community servers, and a milsim mode (which nobody liked in playtesting), it's really no surprise that the game is losing 4k players every week.
@@meeshii3 I feel most people are too scared to say it how it is as its a small team. The game is fun yes... But its not great and theres a huge reason its lost basically the entire player base so quickly. Its just better than BF2042 which isn't hard at all as that game sucks. In reality its just a mid FPS game thats getting hyped as the newer alternatives are shit
Seems their kernel level anti cheat is drawing a lot of scrutiny. Once that gets resolved or removed entirely, this definitely looks worth checking out.
The kernel level anti cheat isn't even in the game, they were considering putting in faceit anticheat instead of EAC which is current. People didn't want faceit because its kernel level and doesn't work on linux so they are working with faceit on a different version.
One thing that’s really phased me battlefield, the more modern they’ve become engine wise, the harder it becomes to see enemies. When you’re being continually killed from god knows where it becomes frustrating, not fun. Battlebit had the best in field visual feedback in any shooter in years imo. It perfectly balances the fun vs gameplay element. Yes it basically looks like Roblox but imo that visual feedback is one of the key elements of its success
This game should be part of a textbook teaching supply and demand. Their game isn't affected by common constraints for supply because it's a digital product. Hence, they could literally just lower prices to have more people buy the product. Simple and genius at the same time.
I first heard of this game when it's beta came out, and I played like 80% of playtests, when the game was officially out I bought the supporter pack since I really respect those guys
7:35 in a highschool lecture, our teacher mentioned a formula wherein if you discount a product but get x number of purchases, you'd still turn a profit. I was only half paying attention, never knowing how useful that formula would be.
Ehhh... When you actually get to see how they run the show and get in their official discord. They are toxic.. They also hand out mod status to just about anyone that speaks differen't languages so there is alot of corruption going on with the discord currently. Ingame moderation is taking a similar hit too with false banning just because 20 apes report you for cheating just because they died to you once.
I still remember playing 1942 in internet cafes and having fun. That is what battlebit is now , it is the true battlefield game . I'm glad we live in an era where Indy games can show up the big studieos
Battlefield 1942 was the best when it relaunched on Xbox 360. I spent countless hours playing it. I loved loading the front of a jeep with C4 and driving it into stuff.
Loved the informative video. Battlebit is an amazing game with friends and with its super low requirements and price, make the game super accessible. If you haven’t heard of Dark and Darker, I’d suggest looking into it. It has a very interesting backstory and development history. TLDR: a couple developers from Nexon were working on a new game that never made it out of production and went on to create their own company and game with a similar genre. The game is super successful in their playtests, but Nexon sees the success and sues them to prevent release of the game. The game has been able to release on their own third party launcher, but still unable to get a steam release quite yet. I think it’d make a very interesting video if you’re interested in looking into it. Anyways, cheers. Love the content 😊
As some one who grew up playing every single battlefield game, and I mean every single one, bf bad company 2 and bf4 were the best ones, it took me a while to get used to battlebit strangely, sure the popularity of it on twitch has dropped, I spent many hours streaming when I first played it - but at its core battlebit is just a game that's playable, enjoyable and a nice touch on a classic format - simple yet expanded at the same time, definitely a game to check out if your into mp team based fps - the only problem battlebit has is the same as battlefield....snipers never playing the objective, cool you got plenty of kills - but your potato brain understands you need to play the objective to win the round right?😂 I was a sniper main in bf4 back on xb360....longest headshot was 1.6km, used to snipe chopper pilots right out of their metal birds, even have a short on my channel taking out a chopper pilot with an SMG in bf4.....I miss those days
People need to understand that games were first made by people who were passionate about them. Not after money and selling you shit. I am not surprised that BattleBit has knocked EA out
Recently during the steam string sale i bought Ghost Recon breakpoint. I had finished episode 1 of the game in like 30 hours and was trying to figure out why I couldn't do the episode 2 and 3. Turns out, despite the game costing 80 dollars, you have to spend another 50 and buy the DLC just to unlock like 60% of the story line.
I’m glad huge triple AAA game companies are getting serious reality checks. they need it. This is revolutionary stuff! We need more of these indie companies showing how it’s really done. Can’t wait to see how the big companies react when there these issues show up in there back yards because it’s only then will they do something about it.
Everyone is so hyped for this game and says how better it is than Battlefield, but looking at steam charts and the constant player drops I give it 6 months max before it dies (reaches less than 1000 players)
And even with so much tweaking the LMGs are barely usable past close range while the SMGs are taking pot shots or even bursts past 100m. The recoil inertia is completely backward.
Have to say that the current state of bf2042 is great, the gameplay mechanics are very good ( a bit arcade in my opinion), bit very fun, and the new content has been extremly good compared to the old one. I rlly enojoy playing both games tbh, i think they both are two different experiences.
as much as I like battlebit, it's hard to say that it killed battlefield when they have dropped over half of their playerbase already. when the game came out they had near 100k concurrent. now they have a 30 day average of 12.6k, thats not a lot compared to what it was. they dropped over half after a couple months. I like battlebit, but to say it killed battlefield is just not true.
idk, if they keep releasing new stuff that makes the game fun then i can see ppl playing it more then battlefield. it does has an advantage of not been heavy on the computer. but on par, id say your right, they are both on the same level.
I love how they took their time, preformed multiple play tests to discover new bugs or how people would enjoy/dislike new content. Even if it was “stupidity” they really did a great job at making a polished game for many to enjoy. Glad to hear that this underdog story worked
I love that Battlebit and Baldur's Gate 3 habe absolutely wrecked the AAA shooters and RPGs. They give us exactly what we want and nothing we dont. Imagine that: if you make a good game, it'll market itself.
I am now really thinking about picking this game up even tho it isn't the type of game I normally play. gonna talk to a couple friends and see if they're down to play this game going forward
Problem with bit is it fails to do what it is supposed to do. There is a squad system, but it is shit and everyone just runs as a hive mind between objectives. Before you say thats the players let me remind you hell let loose pulls it off to where you really have to communicate and do team work
Thing is, most Triple A studios at one point was a small indie company full of heart and passion...then they got big, got gassed up with their success, focused on the monetization aspect of gaming, and basically lost track of their roots. Which is being a gamer, playing games for the fun of what gaming brings. Companies like Blizzard and EA have sold their souls for the all mighty corporate dollar, anyone thinking or saying otherwise is delusional and buying into their lies and supporting their continued assault on the gaming industry. Battlebit literally proves what the love of gaming combined with tenacity and the will to pursue one's goals can do. Kicking the balls of the Goliaths with their David sized blocky feet.
I never played PC games because I prefer moba but hands down Battlebit got me hooked lmao. I can play all day, sometimes I forget to eat sometimes (which is bad) but this is better than eating too much out of boredom.
