A new Scooby-Doo fan episode sees Mystery Incorporated investigate Freddy Fazbear's Pizza in a crossover inspired by the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You series. However, creator Eagan Tilghman is getting some online criticism for his use of AI voices. Does this Scooby-Doo "Springtrapped" episode really deserve the hate?

"Avoid paying actors" is not the only reason. AI is the only way to get a voice that sounds almost exactly like a previous voice actor for example. Big business can afford anything it wants, in fact most of this anti-AI stuff is coming from them because AI empowers the common person and threatens their dominance. In any case history has shown trying to force an unnatural flow of the economy always creates more problems than it solves. AI has the potential to let people hardly ever work, and we're hindering it because we only think about the short-term benefits.

And he would also not likely get any money from that either. So it just sounds like a greedy voice actor who already has established their career and is not in the poor position blasting hate on a young person who spent so much work and time animating this, plus editing it, adding sounds, and voices, all for no profit, and just for fun. She's so angry that he didn't spend hundreds of dollars on her and the rest of the people. I feel like this is a form of a new type of fan art, I would say. As artists literally copy character designs but with different situations as a form of appreciation (fan art), why this can't be? @@lunamelody2025 As someone who would like to see AI usage in this area remain really limited & appreciates the value of real human VAing, I don't actually see a big problem with small creators using AI voice cloning completely throughout their creations, not just where necessary. I think AI voice cloning is relatively harmless in small doses like making a few videos or memes or whatnot, though the state of human society right now makes self-discipline & moderation fairly difficult, which increases the caution we should have about AI voice cloning, including things like bad profiteering & negatively influencing the human creative process entirely. But in terms of, say, new fanmade episodes of cartoon shows you like, I don't think that's altogether bad in principle, though we should be cautious in those cases. @@crystalvulpine2314 I do disagree. The core of the issue is you can translate this argument to all industries; art and literature are just big examples. Moreso an issue of those who own these technologies across industries (healthcare/art/etc.) Should we accept AI driven projects with the consequences of losing jobs, breaking industries, hurting a wider economy, and losing a "human element?" @@crystalvulpine2314 I understand what you are saying, and it is very optimistic. But consider this: there are many in society who do not believe we should be compensated for existing; that social support frameworks are a waste of taxpayer money and investment. Do you believe in the scenario that if AI replaces all human work, that those in power will adjust to creating frameworks which allow for those who are not working to pursue self fulfilling interests and live comfortably? While I believe it is a possibility, I don't see such things coming true anytime soon, and in the interim there will be a lot of hardship for those affected. I agree with you that AI has the potential of making life easier, but it should not come at the cost of hardship in between.

In my unearned opinion, Eagan Tilghman did NOTHING wrong. Sure, he could have hired some VAs but he doesn't have to. As he said, he was making the project for fun! VAs can cost A LOT of money, and when you're someone who's doing a project for the fun it can feel like too much. Though I am glad he's going to be dubbing it with actual actors! Also, Grey DeLisle, while I understand where she is coming from, is overreacting to the situation. And I legitimately am disappointed in her. The VA industry is already elitist as is. While Grey is within her right to be upset at the whole AI thing the way she went about doing this was just wrong on so many levels. Grey Delisle has always had a reputation of being toxic but i never believed it until now. She literally wanted to blacklist this guy so he can never get a job in the animation industry even though A: he doesn't have the resources to hire anyone, B: this was a passion project he worked on by himself, and C: the whole video was made for an animation portfolio and isn't even being monetized. Give Erica Lindbeck credit: at least when she had her voice being used she politely reached out to the guy who made the original AI cover of Futaba Sakura singing Welcome to the Internet and obliged. Grey just pretty much "***k that" and went scorched earth on him. How is any gonna sympathize with VAs if they go and do shit like this!? And given how well known Grey is in the animation community she's only gonna make other VAs look bad by comparison.

y'know, I get the "but the actors won't get paid" thing, I really do, but I feel like there are some situations in which using A.I. isn't the end of the world, nor will hurt anybody; - as many people point out, actors are kind of expensive, but also on that point is whether they'll actually agree regardless of money, because of what you want them to say. A.I. doesn't have an ego to break, an image to uphold, or emotions to feel embarrassment. without A.I., good luck getting Charles Martinet or some impersonator to sing the hot meme song of the year in an authentic Mario voice. - let's face it, actors will die and a some of them are already dead. unless we figure out Necromancy and bring someone like Rick May back from the dead, A.I. is the ONLY way we're getting our hands on that voice, among others. - not all voices used are gonna be actors, so we won't need to worry about *them* getting paid because they were never paid for their voices anyway. - I don't think you can just hire a child voice actor as an ameteur animator, that sounds kinda weird and impossible. plus, some famous child actors have grown up, there's NO hiring that voice anymore even if you're a large company. I know A.I. voices and whatever are scary and we fear they're gonna replace us, but I personally believe that the original ways of animating and voice acting might finally be recognised as art forms and stick around, and we need to stop being so negative about A.I. because I think it'll allow people with less skill to get their stories and/or memes (probably the latter) out into the world.

It’s infuriating that Grey DeLisle would go that far. I would much rather her do the voice for the dude. It’s so frustrating that AI is so prominent but it is true the voice actors are so expensive and it’s hard to take sides on these things. But I look at it this way too, if I take a recording of a instrument and then sell that recording as a plug in and make money off it is it taking the jobs away from actual instrument players?! Not really it’s the same thing with voice actors there are so many recordings it was only a matter of time before someone recorded they’re entire library of voicelines to make a keyboard to play their voices with.

There is a fan made OK K.O. Project someone named RedClawedPro made on RU-vid. The RU-vidr used AI for the voices of the characters and I see nobody complaining. I can understand that RedClawedPro can’t get the voice actors to do that and I know he probably means no harm to any actors. I too don’t mean any harm to any actors. They’re acting is brilliant, but they shouldn’t overreact on a harmless project with AI voices just because they can’t get actual actors.

It's important to note that in addition to asking VA's to use a licensed character's voice you also need the express approval of the copyright owner lest they file a C&D to you. Most companies will outright deny you with that permission if you're using it for smaller projects for a variety of different reasons (the creator would likely be unable to pay the initial licensing fee out of pocket which could also include royalties on RU-vid monetization, they're indirectly endorsing someone that is / could be problematic in the future which could tarnish their image, etc). Grey threatening to blacklist Eagan from several talents in the VA industry is condemning him to the very antithesis of her argument, giving more opportunities to workers in her industry over computer code. I completely respect those that are against AI-generated vocals but judging by the reception of her response you can tell that she did so in a very poor manner.

I'm pretty sure Grey wasn't talking about hiring the official Scooby-Doo voice actors. People can do impressions of characters and its protected since its considered parody. If anything, from what you've described, using AI voices of the official Scooby-Doo actors is what would've triggered a C&D, not indie voice actors doing Scooby-Doo impressions like the voice actor Eagan paid to play Shaggy.
@BlueAura
@BlueAura 11 месяцев назад
@@redlily2893 While Grey didn’t mention the VA cast she did however expressly forbade Eagan from hiring her. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to assume that Grey’s able to grant her voice of Daphne for these kinds of projects which is why I explained the many hoops creators need to jump through. Voice impressions are definitely the way to go with this and it’s great to see that Eagan is following through with a redubbing.
