The home security business is ruthless. When I bought my first house in a new neighborhood, I had several security system salesmen come to my house trying to sell me a system. I ended up calling ADT directly to schedule an appointment. Less than an hour before my scheduled appointment, a security guy rings the bell. I figured it was the guy coming for the appointment so I let him in and we talked. He ended up selling me Central Security instead of ADT. My house was pre-wired so really the only thing they put in is the box, a sign in front, and info about the monitoring service. About 10 minutes after the guy left, the actual ADT guy calls and says he is on the way. I thought I had just been scammed so I called the first guy back and asked who he was. Ended up, the guy was legit and I actually got a security service. He even sent me a $100 rebate check after the first couple of months. I would be much more careful next time. Multiple salesmen looked for houses without signs and kept harassing them until they would cave. A neighbor of mine without a system said he caught on video one salesman jump his fence in the middle of the night and start banging the back door acting like a robber to try to scare them into buying a system. I’m very thankful for companies like Ring and Arlo these days that let you setup your own systems and not deal with these ruthless salesmen.

I've been a door to door salesman for 10 years in two different industries not alarm systems. I always save them money. Unfortunately it's scum bags like this guy and this company that gives us all a bad name. I truly love what I do and I love helping families. On behalf of us sales people who hold our customers in high esteem I am truly sorry.

Besides security alarm companies, look out for ANY door to door salesman. Anybody taking things from your property is called theft. If they're legitimate, they will welcome you to call the local or national office to confirm their identity and actions. Any attempts by them to shrug you off or dismiss you is a huge warning sign. If something don't seem right about the person or situation, it probably isn't and your instincts is cautioning you to beware.

Woah. This is crazy. I never would have imagined such a thing was going on at such a large scale and so recklessly. Aren't their systems in place to prevent scams like this, other than lawsuits long after the fact?

Imagine companies going so far as to just switch out their ADT sights with their company name for free promo without even asking the homeowner. That would be madness.

I had an alarm salesman come to my door last year. My current alarm system chased him to the end of the driveway.

this is why I don't sign into contracts... diy surveillance for me.....

ADT just did this with me and a smaller security company. So they're doing the same thing now it seems.

Having worked for a company that works with ADT to sell ADT, they taught me the same type of stuff. We also used stickers saying you missed an H.S. inspection after new owners move in... H.S. stood for Home Security..

I would NEVER allow someone in my house or to touch my stuff without calling the company myself. Door-to-door sales? Like really? I hope they get run out of business. How slimy 🤢🤮

This is how ALL journalism should be. I'm sure if more media outlets did stuff like this to corporations, they'd have TONS of stories of shady businesses taking advantage of people.

Had a Vivint rep do the same thing to me! Came to my house pretending to be from my security company Ackerman saying he was there to "upgrade" me to a newer system. Reported him to Ackerman and the BBB. Apparently Vivint is doing this to a lot of current Ackerman customers all over Atlanta and Washington DC. This is just disgusting!

Robbery is paying 50 dollars a month with a 5 year contract...ADT!

My mom fell for this in Kingman AZ I caught it in a couple hours and was able to get it stopped within the 24 hour window and had to call the police to escort the salesman from the property and get the attorney General lnvolved to get the illegal harassment stopped. So don't back down from them and don't be afraid to call the attorney General.
