I used to live in Silicon Valley, Apple worked their employees with crazy long hours back then. And everyone talked bad about Jobs and had stories about his weirdness. After he died every meetup praised him for this and that and it was so funny, I used to photograph a lot of meetups in the Bay Area and they always mention Jobs, it is crazy and they still do it now.
Big difference is that Jobs and Sculley were not on the same page about a lot of things. Cook respects the hell out of Jobs and we all know it. Yeah, he does a lot of things differently than how Steve ran things, but it’s still bringing Apple a lot of success, especially in the business aspect.
@@deezpleez3832 Jobs specifically wanted the next CEO not to think “what would Jobs have done?” but at the same time not completely disrespect his ideology
Most people say jobs was much better than cook but I differ, and see a balance of differences between them. Jobs was a visionary, he sought to find new products and new designs that people may find attractive. However jobs has made many failed products as well because the technology wasn’t good enough for his wants. Tim Cook definitely was better in this category. Cook kept the same design of the iPhone from 6 to the iPhone 8, though it was annoying, it helped the company succeed and they didn’t get ahead of themselves, allowing for innovation for when they are ready and not only will it be new, it will be well tested and perfected under Tim Cook. I think cook may have overall been a better CEO and Apple would be struggling if cook was not present.
True, but even when Jobs WAS alive (when he was fired) Apple went off the rails a bit after Jobs was fired by Sculley and the board. To an extent, I don't think the company ever really recovered from that point on, not even when Jobs returned to the company later. Because by the time JObs returned, there was much more competition and some of Job's style of doing businesses was not feasible anymore, and like most big companies of the time, had to work within the increased competition. Indeed Apple (and Microsoft and many others) are going to be (and often are) considered one of the greatest companies of all time, along with others like Standard Oil and others.
Tim’s decision of leaving a successful company for a sinking one reminds me of myself making a similar decision at my job. Hopefully the success story is the same.
The very fact that you have taken such a decision shows that you are working for something more than just money. Don’t worry pal, you WILL be successful
100%. It's so dumb when people talk smack on Tim without knowing anything. They see Tim and say "he's so much worse than Steve Jobs" when Tim wasn't supposed to replace Steve, he was supposed to be the next leader of Apple to take it to greater heights. Now, Apple has reached such great lengths thanks to Cook's direction. Steve knew exactly what he was doing when he put Tim in charge, and it shows.
@@test-ky8tu people say that Apple hasn’t innovated since Jobs but these are the major things under Tim Apple: 1)Apple Watch 2)AirPods 3)M1 4)iPad Pro 5)iOS 7 7)iPhone X And many more but there are so many I can’t be bothered to list them.
@@Emobullymaguire Yeah, he's done great. It's just that people are expecting Tim to "create the next iphone". People want Apple to create another world changing and culture defining product when that just isn't gonna happen. I love Jony Ive, but if he became CEO, then Jony probably would've tried to take Apple down that path of pursuit to a new "world changing product" which probably would've led to multiple product failures and the downfall of Apple. Steve knew that and put Tim in charge, because he knew Tim's values were the best for the future and longevity of Apple. I love Steve Jobs a ton, but it's absolutely dumb how people seem to trash Cook.
@@test-ky8tu yeah and that’s the exact thing that happened to Apple in the 1900s. Jobs wanted to create a world changing product but kept releasing flop after flop.
@@Emobullymaguire Yup, exactly. I love Apple a ton, but ignorant Apple fanboys just ignore the down points of Apple and Steve Job's legacy. I think once the iPhone came out, Steve had realized that Apple had done their part in majorly changing the world with a product. I feel like that's why he didn't try creating any more new insane future defining products, but rather just kept expanding upon what they had created and innovating in the industry to refine it all. Hence him bringing in Tim Cook because he was the guy who would keep Apple alive to continue refining and innovating instead of bringing it back to that "world changing product" chasing stage with someone like Jony Ive. It was nice talking apple with you, sry for the long messages lol :)
@@640A Very true, but let’s not forget, Steve picked Tim to succeed him, and in my honest opinion, Tim has done a great job continuing Steve’s philosophy and engraving it in how they run Apple.
@@640A exactly, but still, Tim played a key role in Apple’s success, even back before the 2000, he was a fundamental person in saving Apple from bankruptcy

@@kaleidoscopeon Yep. and Steve Job's vision has always been about seamless user experiences, and now look at apple today. you have a watch, phone, headphones, laptop and a desktop that all seamlessly share data with each other and connect to one another.
Yeah but it ain’t this easy. Life is full of unexpected things. New markets that didn’t exist before and such. New competition that Jobs could’ve of imagined.
I just discovered your channel and this is my second video of yours that I'm watching and I must say your research and style of explaining everything is highly commendable. Every single point you stated in the video flowed so well, the script was on-point, never did I feel that you were rushing or dragging, and the whole video just came off as very professional, like it was made my someone who knows and loves what they're doing. You have earned my like in the best way possible. All in all, a great video that I thoroughly enjoyed. Keep it up.
One thing is clear and that is that even though Jobs was a great leader, his vision wasn't exactly what Cook's is. Apple has been doing great the last decade, business wise because Job's vision was innovation mostly but Cook's vision is more profit oriented. As a matter of fact, Apple has made more money under Cook's leadership than ever before.
I think Tim Apple is overhated. People try to compare him with Steve Jobs and say that Apple has stopped innovativing under him which is not true. When Steve picked him, he specifically said to not think what Steve would do.
i doubt it would be craig. like the video said, a great leader is the one who is most likely to be the next ceo. craig is a software guy. the next ceo is most probably the current coo, jeff williams
@@plyzgaming6162 you know that is never going to happen, apple's products are never cheap. it is however already a bargain compared to the intel macbook airs
@@shivanedadi4029 new levels of prices.. haha jokes aside though. We all know no one can touch Jobs when it comes to vision and innovation, but Cook has put Apple in a great position and he has done a great job at succeeding Steve as CEO. We shall not forget products like the Apple Watch, AirPods, iPad Pro came under Cook’s leadership.
'Just in time' manufacturing has revolutionized the production and logistics chain, and technically, although there is no one to one replacement for Jobs, Cook brought the most value to Apple taking it from a $350 billion company to a $2 Trillion company
Like many, I was skeptical of Tim when he first took over for Steve Jobs. But alas, not falling into the "What would Steve Do?" mental trap paid off really well for Tim Cook and Apple.
"He was jumping ship from the most popular computer company in the world (Compaq), which he just joined six months prior, to the one that was in the process of sinking (Apple)."
Ah! The video i was waiting for.. PS.. If you don't mind.. then.. is there any channel like "Microsoft Explained"?? (because i love Microsoft and Apple BOTH!)
Because of Job’s intuition, cost him to make the right decision by making cooked a CEO of Apple. This is why today we have what we have at Apple. And we as customers benefit from Job’s intuition even though he’s not around anymore but I still thinking of him every day. Thank you cook for follow your own intuition to do what you do an apple and gift us the best today from Apple.
Everybody cried when Steve Jobs died.. Tim Cook is next in line years from now and I’m going to ball my eyes out. Nobody, not even Cook can live up to Steve’s desires... he sure was something. Cook is all we have now, I’ll be broken if he passes away☹️
@@tres-2b299 I don’t think so. Cook will be around the next ten years or so. As the future gets near we will definitely be more technologically advanced. But we will still have Craig I hope and other important apple leaders whose been around since day 1
The real story is that, Cook made the money for Apple, but Jobs was the real innovator. At the end of the day, innovation is what counts. Giving the market something unique, something they have never seen before. Staying ahead of the curve. Like Samsung and other China companies now do. Apple has always been reactionary to any new innovation. They build great chips, but haven't introduced path-breaking innovation to any of their products since succeeding Jobs! That is the real Tim Cook story.
Hmmm. The M1 was pretty industry breaking. It caught everyone off guard(especially Intel) and now everyone’s either making in house ARM chips or planning to use ARM chips and hundreds of apps everyday are being optimised for Apple Silicon. The Apple Watch was the first great smart watch. It was the first device to feature LTPO displays, its watch faces are fun and unique, it’s hella resistant,it has 3D Touch and accounts for 50% of the smart watch market or approx 10 million units. The AirPods were a meme at first but is now just amazing. It has amazing integration with iPhones, it has cool features like Spatial Audio, ANC, Transparency Mode, a wireless charging case and such things and now everybody is making their own AirPods killer. And these are only a few I’ve named.
You really don't have to thank for watching til the end, these are highly enjoyable video productions. Sad that there are lately more of the very short ones.

I agree and disagree with that. I mean what else do you want? Do you want a faster chip set? Pro refresh rate is coming, In display finger print? The iPads and Apple Watch are pretty damn good!
I remember when steve died i thought uh oh apple is gonna fold aswell, but tim cook turned apple into a mega machine company i am forever grateful for steve in his decisions, especially in choose tim
and yeah.. Do you know a veryyy funny thing that happened to me yesterday.. In the morning i was discussing "why is apple named APPLE"?? I got the answer: "a fruitarian diet" and "Apple comes ahead of Atari in phone Book" and then in the evening... I JUST FOUND THAT 1st April is Apple's birthday!!!!!
When you see the recent apple products like the Apple M1, iPhone X, the new Mac Pro (despite it's ridiculous stand) you can see why Steve Jobs chose Tim Cook as his successor
In my opinion, I think Tim Cook is the right person for the CEO. It was also his choice to break Steve Jobs' principle (without a 4-inch master & touch pen). Of course, Steve Jobs said, "Now make your Apple," but thanks to that, he was told, "Are you copying your competitors?" Conversely, it is said that Apple would not have existed if it had followed Steve Jobs' principles. Rather, Tim Cook's achievements are being undermined by Steve Jobs' principle. Excluding the four-inch problem with the stylus right now, the answer comes out when you look at the sales and share of Apple Pencil, iPad, and iPhones over four inches after Steve Jobs.
I think it was the right move knowing that Apple would pursue the innovations brought about during the Job’s era and that Apple would hit a wall in new product innovation. The only course was to expand Apple’s market share and products and make minor iterative improvements to the products each year to keep profits up. 10 years on after Job’s death and we really have no new huge innovations in the tech product space.
Innovation stopped after iphone X. But pretty sure logistics has been handled like a charm. Old parts/new phone, * boom * iphone SE2 is here. Using same frame for 3 years? Damn only apple fans make it possible.
Umm M1 is a pretty big one. Also the iPhone designs are timeless that why they hold up. And the chip was so powerful that it was outstripping the S20U.
