Most people will want more animal videos anyways.... :p I have a few pedals for that ready as well. But only analog ones. A Boss DM2-W is my newest favorite if I need a mono delay.

Great vid as always. I really like the sound of the Black Beast right at 16:56 reminds of Black Sabbath. I've thought about running some tracks through my AXFX II. The effects in that thing sound amazing. I've also thought about running a bass track through a distortion pedal but only the mids. Maybe I should fucking do it already! Thanks for the inspiration. ;-)

On less heavy tracks a bit of delay on the snare. I tried that live a few times and it can give a bit of extra movement.

I use pedals instead of plugins all the time. Pedals cost about the same, and they don't go out of date, require an iLok, or stop working if I update my DAW. I find that you get more unique and bolder sounds from pedals. You also avoid the analysis paralysis of endless presets and tweaking plugin parameters. Hardware forever!

I love running synths through pedals. It gets a way heavier, saturated sound with way less effort. And it masks the entirely digital feel

Literally bought the G4 two hours before this video dropped. This gave me a couple ideas and I've been using Distortion/Drive Pedals on Vocals for some time for exactly the reason you said: it's so cool to dial in juuuuuuust that right touch

This is great, I'm throwing one on my wish list now. Normally I blend in an additional dirt for some added umph without being too over the top. Adding a slight touch of something like the Grindstein or HM2 to my all ready high gain amp just does it for me. This product will allow me to put the whole band through an HM2.....

Very cool video! I would love one of those Radial boxes for the mixing stage. As for the pedals and IR combo, It is all I do for guitars. There is a free power amp vst too (TPA by Ignite amps) which is pretty good to throw in before an IR.

I did similar things a few times but still in digital domain, with vst pedals, even though I have a nice sounding hi-gain preamp🙂 not feeling like I`m missing something but this Radial thing is nice

I used this type of setup (seperate reamp and DI box) to add an MXR bluebox to the master bus of one of my own songs for a crazy effect once. Sounded hilariously evil and stupid, I love it haha. I'm going to have to try a tubescreamer on vocals, sounds like it could be pretty awesome.

I use a very cheap, passive, direct box to split the signal from my bass to use my beloved tube screamer, after my preamp. I blend the two tracks and I have tons of dängles 👌 🤘

I really suggest to buy the Kohle IRs pack cause it sound amazing.. I use them both for live and studio performances..those 3 Eminence speakers are great (dv77 and cv75 togheter are fantastic). I love watching this recording tricks made by you because I started doing shit like this some years ago and even it works very well I thought I was a fool...thanx for sharing

I use my Little Labs PCP to do things like this. Nifty little box 👌🏻 No Wet/Dry or send/return knob though.

If I need any extra fatness for my snare or lows/subs for my kick... aux out through Strymon Deco saturation and shape with MXR 10-band and record it back in. Often try and grab different settings for verse/chorus/wherever. Set the Deco to wide stereo mode and send the guitar buss in to it. Hard compress that and use it as a parallel.

I just realised that I never used guitar pedals on ..guitars. I must be nuts. 😁 Great video as always! More horse and donkey stories? Sure, why not. By the way, I have a guitar amp, a Roland Cube60, which has a great pre-out. That is perfect as a “converter” from the guitar world to the studio world. And if you want you can get a bit of overdrive and spring reverb into the computer at the same time. Hm.. I guess I even use that amp as an fx. Never thought about that.

Yes this is fun. I once hocked up a Mini Marshall (MS-2) to get a Griddy Blend Track for Bass. Also works very well with a simple DI-Box and a Gender Changer. But it only with the big Versions of Cubase as a Plugin. For the Low Budget: But you can bypass your Master Plugins, Pan the Track to one side, Zero out the Volumes, use one of your master Outputs and then record a new Track with the effect. Maybe you have to slightly adjust the Timing and move the new Track a bit backwards. This will work on any Tiny Interface. BTW: If you use the "Render in Place" Feature in Cubase (i think Version >10) with a Amp Signal Chain as external Effect, you have a real easy Reamping Setup. It even renders every event separate with a preroll. So you don't have to reamp again if there were some Clicks on the cuts of events.

Re: impedance matching. When I didn't have a reamp box, I found that sending a low impedance signal through a "dummy" pedal (like a clean boost set to 0 dB, or a flat eq) gets it to the point where all my distortion and modulation pedals swallow it up no problem and, try as I might, I can't hear any artifacts. Interestingly, it's not just a function of having a buffer; buffered bypass pedals or "just buffer" boxes don't work for this, but once you kick them on (in front of your actual chain), it's smooth sailing from there. I know the mantra of "if it sounds good, it's good," but still I feel like maybe there's a catch? Seems almost fishy I can reamp with a $25 noname boost from Amazon when reamp boxes are an entire category in itself, ostensibly specifically developed for the purpose

There's no catch. Most guitar pedals are pretty tolerant to input impedance because they don't know where they're going to be placed - if they're gonna be hooked right after the guitar, and see a high impedance signal, or after another pedal and see a low impedance signal. The big outliers here are fuzzes that almost always want to see a high impedance signal.

This sounds like "boss pedal reamp trick". From what I gather boss pedals (and probably any decent pedal) will force a signal to the proper level and output.

That might actually work for the impedance part. But don't forget the other two. I recommend to reduce the level in the analog domain and not in the DAW by the way. That usually leads to less noise, especially if you use a lot of distortion.

I don't think you mentioned, for those who don't have a 500 series chassis already, Radial makes the EXTC as a standalone box, the Radial EXTC-SA. I've been using stompboxes as outboard effects for a while now with great success. Fun stuff!

Fuuuuck yeaaaa!! So I know before I mentioned I used the grindstein on a snare for a grind project. But, just recently I used the EQ section on the grindstein on my drum shell buss for another project and holy shit it added so much punch.

hi! If i have two turntables hooked to a DJ mixer, can i pass master output of the DJ mixer to a pedal and from the pedal to a stereo receiver? I am really struggling to find proper info about this on internet and i am worried i will burn any of my components THanks!

Pls put a blend knob on your Klirrton pedals!! So useful, espc. for bass and running synths trough it. Even cool for guitar & I do wonder why blend is not standard on distortion pedals.

For the bogren contest I could not resist and mix 20% of my fully cranked HM-2 plugin into the screams. Now I think I should have been more bold and go with at least 75%... Could you also tell us maybe in a next episode when it can be usefull to saturate the whole mix at the mix bus and when it's not? Would be super curious!

I'm mainly using it as a 500 rack, but so far the USB drivers have been nothing but stable, when I used them. Converters seem to sound great.

It doesn't work with every pedal. But some pedals are bright and powerful enough to drive an IR. The REVV G4 is another great candidate.
