Hello Buck, Don't lose steam, getting traction on RU-vid takes time. Just enjoy the journey and we'll all benefit from the knowledge you have to offer. I would look to Minwax 245 and possibly a dash of 209 (it has a slight golden tone to it) to dial in the oak stain, it needs a bit more of a golden color. Get the springwood tones to match, then darken as needed with extra coats or more of a darker stain to sneak up on the color match. Also, make sure your test piece has a finish on it as well so you can get the matching just right. That's my 2 cents. Cheers
Thank you for the encouragement! I appreciate the advice and suggestions for the stain. I’ll definitely experiment with that mix and see how it plays out on my test pieces. Thanks for your 2 cents - it’s always good to get input from folks who’ve worked through these things before. Stay tuned for more updates, and I’ll keep enjoying the journey!
You're a good man Buck. Real shop education. Remind me of my shop teachers back in the day. Having the right tool sure makes all the difference. We think of measuring as using a ruler but better measuring is done direct transfer of the actual distance. Marking gage is a cool device. Thank you man.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I’m really honored that my videos remind you of your shop teachers-those were the folks who taught us the real fundamentals. You're absolutely right about the tools too. Direct transfer of distance, especially with something like a marking gauge, makes a huge difference in accuracy and consistency. It’s those small details that can really elevate a project. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment-means a lot!
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment, it really means a lot! I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and it’s awesome to hear that you’re just starting out. Happy woodworking!
