I've been using ableton since 2003, I'm 100% self taught, not including a whole plethora of RU-vid videos I've watched, half of which are misleading! I applied all of your amazing tips to a new track I've just made and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart, they were a total game changer! On all systems, no clipping or horrible distortion, clean, punchy. Finally! Much appreciated, I think I love you. X 😂🤗

That’s awesome! I’m so glad it was useful! I’m self taught, too, so I’ve spent some time experimenting to get the sound I like. Thanks so much for checking out the video 😊

That Glue Compresor is hidden gem. Boosting up without cliping master. Really helps me to bring up the volume of track. Thank you

This was really nice. Thanks. EQ with that example was really helpful. I really see the benefit of the dynamic following

Thank you! Dynamic EQ definitely works well in spots like that where it needs some extra ducking only when it gets too loud 🙂

Thanks!!! super useful. I would like to watch a video of you doing the same but with other tools like fab's filter stuff explaining dynamic EQ and maybe using Ozone tolls too. You are cute by the way.

This has got to be one of the clearest and strait to the point explanations of mastering I have ever seen. I really appreciate that you explain why you're making each choice along the way. I was wondering about the glue compressor. I understand that is called that because it "glues" the mix together. But is there anything about it other than the attack and release times that make it unique to any other compressor? Thanks so much for this!
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 7 месяцев назад
Thanks so much! The glue compressor is modeled after an SSL analog compressor so it can add some “character” to the sound. I usually choose it for group compression or sometimes on a channel because of the awesome soft clip option. It’s very versatile 🙂

I've discovered your channel today and it's truely an awesome one ! For the mastering, I usually make 2 parallel chains, one for the mid and one for the side. On each of them, I add EQ - Compressor - Saturator - EQ. After these chains, I add a final saturator, Limiter and Youlean. I use the Saturator as my Clipper but maybe it's better to have a proper clipper. As for the glue compressor, I don't use it cause it happened to alterate the vocal volume. What do you think ? Maybe I don't set the right attack/release :/
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 4 месяца назад
Hey, thanks so much for checking out the channel! Saturator can definitely function as a clipper. I like to just use the most gentle curve and not push it too much. And same with the glue compressor. I don’t do much compression with it on the master, it’s mainly to push the volume into the soft clip function 🙂

what lufs do you aim for with trap beats please? also when mixing what lufs should I get it to before mastering? your videos are great btw thank you :))
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 6 месяцев назад
Thanks! I don’t usually look at LUFs while mixing, but I just try to make the mix as clean and loud as possible. Then I usually check some reference tracks in the genre I’m doing and try to master it to that LUFs level. I’d check out some trap beats you enjoy and see what levels they are at and try to get yours to that level.

Great stuff! Do you run the EQ8 and Glue Compressor in oversampling mode or just regular? Thanks for the video🙂
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 9 месяцев назад
Thanks! I just used regular mode for this one...I've never noticed much difference especially with EQ 8 unless I'm making pretty steep filter cuts. But if your CPU can handle it, it's probably not a bad thing to just check on for mastering :)

@@khartbeats I'm working on lofi/chill now but previously hip-hop music for a production music library and then before that dance music and before that singer/songwriter stuff. It's the "and before that" theme. But, focused on serious production chops for the last 3 years.

do you use clippers on your kick and snare as well?
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 7 месяцев назад
Kick yes, snare usually just a little compression if it needs it
@LX7music
@LX7music 4 месяца назад
is it possible to use everything you have and ozone as well?
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 4 месяца назад
This is a mastering chain...Ozone basically does the same thing so you'd be doubling all the compression, limiting, etc. You could kind of piece some of the Ozone stuff together with stock stuff to make your own custom mastering chain. I've done that before :)

@@khartbeatsoh ok thank you, I'm honestly clueless when it comes to mastering! do you have a patreon or a service where i can send my project to you to check my master and maybe fix it? it's the only thing holding me back from releasing my music! thanks for replying so fast btw not many people on RU-vid do :))
@khartbeats
@khartbeats 4 месяца назад
@@LX7music I don’t currently have anything like that. Working on setting one up soon! I’d say mixing is more important to focus on and if the mix sounds good, the master is just that final little shine and making it louder.

@LX7music 4 месяца назад
@@khartbeats awesome please let me know when you do! could you possibly do a video about getting a clean mix? preferably in the style of deep house? selected style? thank you
