HVAC Technician, Zac Desjardins, shows us the three tapes he typically uses for HVAC installs and how to achieve a proper seal.

In addition to selecting the right tape for the job, you also need to make sure you are properly applying it in order to achieve an airtight, permanent seal. Pretty good. Better than most. I recommend using spray glue too. Also having a heat gun just in case deff wont hurt.. oh also i never used scissors a really good tape trick is to fold that paper around the roll to the beginning of the tape and you can now just sit and pull strips of tape in seconds

Also try hardcast 1402. You probably know about it but it’s $32 a roll at Johnstone, save a few bucks. Mastic tape is a life saver for real.

Any tips on taping a metal to metal joint on the backside of a rectangular duct placed against a wall? I can pull the duct away from the wall about 1/2" at most.

Hi there - It is going to be hard to get pressure to get the tape to adhere properly. We would recommend to pull the metal away 1/2”, apply the tape, then somehow slide something (possibly a wooden ruler) in the 1/2” gap to put pressure on the tape so it sticks as best as possible.

@@ShurtapeIndustrial. I ended up cutting the drywall away so I could properly tape the duct. I have lots of other drywall to put up anyway.

Thank you for sharing, what tape recommended for my primary line (PVC) coming off the main system and what kind of tape recommended for secondary (PVC) coming off the main unit in my attic. I had my AC “maintenance “ done and the “guy” turned my PVC pipes and broke the white looking “puky” loose and didn’t reseal it.
