Hello everyone (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡ Here are my tips and tricks to actually increase the amount you're reading ~
For the first portion of this year, I was in a massive reading slump. A few weeks ago I had a look at my 'currently reading' list on my blog and realised I had only read two fiction books this year D: I love reading as most of you know, and I normally read at least 20 books per year, so I decided to do something about it.
These are the 5 things that helped me actually read more and break the reading slump that i was in. I hope you enjoy the video and have a lovely day!
Audiobook app I mentioned:

I literally only read SIX books last year and so I am so happy with my current number of books I’ve read this year so far. I’ve read 51 books so far this year! Shooting for 365 but I’m just as happy with reading more than six 😂😊👏🏻

My tip: I go to Starbucks every weekend. I recommend Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind, The Rosie Project, The Sirens of Titan.

I loveeeeee the library but I’m a book hoarder so I love buying books second hand, you save so much money that way!

What helped me this year, besides audiobooks was having a very small set of extra books around the house. Too much choice was making it hard to decide my next read. I also don't have guilt over "older" reads if I buy a new book so I just read right away which makes it more fun which makes me want to read more. I don't buy more than 2 books at a time anymore.

I love my overdrive and hoopla apps, I can get ANY audiobook from my library for free. Audiobooks are so expensive.

DNF just changed my bookish life! I had been so stuck lately trying to finish a couple of books... In the end, it *is* common sense to not finish a book when you're not enjoying it; silly thing is, I hadn't even realized I wasn't enjoying the ones I was reading! I was just plodding along, all the while wondering why on earth it was taking so long for me to finish them. So now I have officially dropped them, and feel all the better for it 🥰 Also, thanks to your audiobook tip, I found out that my local library has an app which gives access to free audiobooks! I'm in literal heaven right now ☁️ Thank you so much for your video ❤️

Ohhhhh, those are some good tips that I should keep in mind. I've been reading only for uni, but rarely in my free time since the beginning of the semester. 😅 I should change that again. 😊

A few weeks ago I read 2 books in 2 days, and just haven’t read since. They both drained me emotionally and I can’t pick anything else up because I’m so traumatized by these amazing books (Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin)! I’m going to try slowly reading page by page, like bringing my books places instead of using my phone to keep me occupied. My goal isn’t necessarily to read more, but to simple enjoy reading, like I used to. Also I totally understand not wanting to bring books places for fear of destroying them. But I think I’m far passed that as I rate books by how hard I chucked them across the room.

As the saying goes, the long march begins with the first step and there is no such thing as no time, it is so essential both for mental wellbeing and also general well being to read regularly. I enjoy reading daily and always make time to read even if it is for half an hour before bed.

In regards to audio book, you can easily get it from the library too and then just transfer it to the mobile telephone to listen to when you are out walking. I did that for the Wolff book on the crazy Donald Trump administration. So please check the library too.

I find that because I don't have mobil data, I spend a lot of time where other people would be scrolling through their phones, reading. And sometimes that is digitally bc it saves you from having to carry a really long or heavy book. Another thing is the 'Overdrive' and 'borrow box' apps, if you have a library card, there is a good chance you can use these apps. Libraries upload ebooks and audiobooks onto these app and you can loan them! its completely legal and a wonderful way to access audiobooks! Hope this is helpful to anyone :)

I did that a lot when I lived overseas! I didn't have a phone set up straight away so I never had data, and always read more. Thank you for your suggestion! 😊 I really really need to look into these library apps bc there's probably a lot more books than just my local library ebooks~

These are such wonderful tips! Each one resonated with me so much. To go along with your audiobook & library tip, I know some libraries offer digital libraries online that you can access with your library card as well. Those digital libraries have ebooks and (wonderfully) audiobooks! You can access these e-libraries through apps like hoopla and overdrive :) Thank you for the video!

Lovely video! 😊 I read quite a lot because reading is my favourite pastime and it helps me relieve stress after work, and I agree with all the points you made. If you try and make a conscious effort to read and find time for it every day, it's easy to get into a habit and it's a wonderful, healthy hobby (unless you give up sleep for reading haha 😁). I'm a huge advocate of libraries and now only buy books after I've read them and I know I want to own them. Libraries are wonderful for people who can't afford buying all books they want or don't have any shelf space. I'm only sad that I can't seem to get into audiobooks. I'm so used to following a real text that I can't focus properly when I only hear it. It's a great option for people who like them though, as some libraries even offer online audiobook renting :)
@christy-anne-jones

Thank you! 😊 I like audiobooks for classics because the language is so straight-forward and the narrative is always so linear that if I zone out for just a second, I can work out where we are. Idk how i'd go with contemporary audio books hahah--I totally get what you mean though.

Every chapter is read by a different volunteer (hence why the quality drops sometimes--but it's honestly fine 90% of the time). The books I've read so far with the app are Frankenstein, Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island 😊

I don't know if this this something you'd be interested in, or maybe you already know of it but, fan fiction~ I find it so easy to read from archive of our own (Ao3), and there's so many fandoms to pick from, the filters are good too. At the moment I'm reading a Harry Potter fic that's over 250k words long. Thanks for the audio book app suggestion! I'll definitely try it out. I might also be interested in volunteering, I've been told I have a nice voice :)

@@christy-anne-jones wow! So not that long ago :P Forgot to mention, read the tags! You can exclude tags now from your search/filter which is amazing (a recent and very welcomed feature). Happy reading!

@@christy-anne-jones A good way to start is to sort by kudos once you find a fandom! It's an easy way to ensure at least a decent fanfic, and you can always change this afterwards when you start to branch out to more unknown smaller fanfics.
