Vertical Brushed looks the best imo. But that will be hard to achieve everywhere. Swirled would probably be the easiest to make consistent.

If you put a sheet of plastic on top of the long sitting stripper it helps hold the moisture and a lot of paint sticks to it when you pull it off. Been watching for years. Keep up the inspiration for others who build rigs out of their home shop. 🤘

Could use the wipe on clear coat that VGG or Poppy's Patina sells. Or go back to Derek's older videos where he shows his patina sauce recipe to be extra cheap.

It would be cool to see the back wheel well turned into a storage area like the Aussie’s do with their overland rigs. They’ll extend the chassis and they are left with the same issue. They just put a door there instead of trying to blend the metal in. Cool idea to make it usable space.

I’d like to for sure but we are really gonna use this as a rock crawler and I cant think of a way to make a door that won’t rip off everytime it hits a tree or a rock.

I like the horizontal brushed finish. You may want to consider painting the hood flat black though so that you don't blind yourself when driving in full sun. Look at WWII aircraft and they did the same thing for that very purpose.

Dustless sandblasting attachment for your pressure washer. Mill scale is the finish on the steel.

It's called a scotchbrite flapbrush/drum. We use many variants in aviation all made by 3m scotchbrite. It's a really good tool for removing corrosion and metal working.

My vote for "finish" is a dual action sander, 60 grit. Which is easy to maintain, touch up, and fast to do.

Vicegripe Garage sells an affordable wipe-on or spray-on clear coat for patina vehicles to stop the rusting process. That only needs to be applied once every 2 or 3 yrs

Eastwood company was the first place I saw that tool, they call it SCT tool, Surface Conditioning Tool, they sell several different drums for the tool as well !

Some other time in the future when you need to do a lot of metal stripping, you should try wet blasting with the pressure washer (if you don't already have the tool.) I've been following Project Brupeg, they used that and basically beach sand when they needed to strip large areas for repair during their dry dock period. Probably too aggressive for a car body, but might be easier than the wire wheel for stripping stuff like the diamond plate.

Take a grinder and go from front of the car to the back in like a wave pattern, but do it hundreds of times. Saw it on a custom car then they put clear candy paint over it.

The old stripper had methylene chloride in it. The new one does not. Oddly though most complain the new one is more aggressive and melt plastic handle scrapers. Either way you guys probably should've been wearing chemical masks not cloth ones. The stripper especially your old one is not compatible with lungs. 😊 Great job though, looks fun!

There's a process used in engraving and firearms. That is a finish called "French gray". Polish the metal and dip it in toilet bowl cleaner (it's an acid), then rinse it in hot tap water, then coat it in oil .. then wipe the oil off. It etches the metal and remains in the bare metal appearance.... not sure with something the size of this vehicle... However, use your stripper (navel jelly works too). Then use the scotch pad burnishing wheel to get a nice even finish. Then you can use a round scotch pad (courseness is determined by color.. go to your local automotive paint supplier. Body shops have used scotch pads for years). Apply the round scotch pad on to a flat round pad and drill attachment. Then engine turn the finish... often referred to as jeweling.. or a Damascus finish. Pick your pattern. It's easy and would look great 👍 it's a mad max jag after all ! The rat rod guys have products. That can be wiped on to slow and prevent rest and keep the finish... other than clear coat. Either way you choose... the big problem with a bare metal finish. It will show every scratch made on the trails . Far more than a normal paint job. Definitely put all the badges back on. The body mold strip can be painted and reinstalled and add a contrast. Or some pinstripe work.. ...

Polish again to mirror then Shark oil. Check out some Pontoon boat polishing videos, there's some pretty good tricks to make the process easier.

Whatever you do, please don't polish the hood as the sun will reflect off the mirror like surface and potentially blind you. It's similar to the reason that Alaska's police force (or at least used to) paints their hoods a matte black.

After all metal stripped use red scotch Brite, under a yellow kitchen sponge . You can grain the metal . This especially will work best for your aluminum to put a respectable grain without scoring metal or aluminum with a machine .

Sharkhide is for all types of metal, used on aluminum boats, even works around salt water. I used on polished aluminum wheels and heavy rusted and pitted chrome bumper, I also coat nuts and bolts on suspension components !

I love how the Jag is looking but why wouldn't you do all the welding like around the back window and the back wheel wells. That way you could grind down the welds at the same time as the paint. Keep up the great work.

Grind paint, weld, grind again or grind paint, weld, grind again. This way they won't have to deal with burnt paint smell while welding. I was lazy on the weekend while making a tool from scrap bedrail and didn't grind all of the paint off before welding (just where I was welding) - I had plenty of fire and burnt paint.

You need the black stripping drum for the drum sanding tool. I have the Eastwood SCT and that’s all I use on it.

I like all the brushed looks the random swirl is also neat. I think I would do the brushed although id definitely lean towards whats easier to maintain id also use the shark stuff on the metal.

Smooth it out with the rotary wheel to smooth finish. Go get a 3inch or so scotch pad wheel for a drill or air grinder and engine turn the surface. 👍

When I stripped down my cj5, I used that orange stuff and covered it in plastic to keep it wet. Smelled great too!

Citrus strip, I think it's called. I'm about to remove some rhino type liner from plastic CJ flairs using old brake fluid. Brake fluid works good on rattle can and other paints. Easy off oven cleaner in the yellow can does a good job for painted letters on boats.

That Vevor polisher is a piece of shit with the offset drum. It will put a lot of strain on your wrists and forarms, making you experience fatigue and sore muscles. You should've spent a little more money bought the Harbor Freight or Eastwood Surface Conditioning Tool. Both tools have the drum centered on the tool. The Harbor Freight comes with three wheels. One of the drums is a paint/ bondo stripping drum. Go to Harbor Freight, buy the gray stripping drum, and grab a few of the sanding drums. The stripping drum will eat through that paint in no time. Just make sure you do long strokes, push, and pull away from you. Don't go side to side if you can prevent it.That will help prevent the metal from getting too hot.

Id put a big box across the back of the flatbed for tools and recovery gear to have a little extra ass weight and with a boom either do double winches so you can brace 1 side while side pulling

Yes... for Removing Paint.. use Elephant Snot! Actually not kidding... that is one of it's nicknames.. A thick gooey snot colored Aircraft / Aviation Paint Stripper like you pointed out..

Haven't tried it yet, but Rust-oleum makes a product called Never Wet. It is a spray paint so keep that in mind, plus they also make a formula for clothing for water proofing. I have used the one for clothing which did work very well.

Brushed like the sample on the rear passenger door. Try a wipe on clear coat(VGG or Poppy's I think make some) when it's done, or maybe one of those 'patina' preserver products. Should be easy and low maintenance.

I have the Harbor Freight version of the surface prep tool(burnish/polisher). The black wheels work best IMO. I used mine on a 49 and 51 Ford to strip paint.
