Three subwoofer setups: 1. Three-way (the most common) means the output is fed into a crossover and split. Most subwoofers have a crossover built in with an ability to adjust the crossover frequency. 2. LFE (Low Frequency Effects) a dedicated channel specifically for theatre release and needs a dedicated output. Most often the LFE can't contain information above 125 Hz. 3. Bass management system is a blend between LFE and three-way setups. You still need a dedicated output.
Couple ??? What should the sub crossover be set to for 5.1? I want to livestream motorsports races through OBS. What do I do about the lfe channel? Do I just leave it blank or should I use a plugin like Waves DTS Neural™ Surround UpMix. I'll be bringing the mics, pa, cams in through Focusrite Scarlet
Maybe this is a silly question, but if I output a LFE signal from the Scarlett 18i20 to my KRK sub with a single jack, I'll have two inputs to choose from on the sub, L and R. Where do I insert the jack? Does it matter? Thanks
It's a legacy thing from the days of movie soundtracks being placed on optical film. Nowadays it's just the way things are done, so you need to do it if you want to hear the content the same way it was mixed. I have a video coming eventually that talks about some of the finer details around that decision.
