This is the classiest-looking trem system for an SG I've seen. This would go nicely with my sunburst SG special with mini-humbuckers...

I think the Bigsby has a cool vintage look, but the Duesenberg is super classy. Plus, it's a great retro-fit. No drills.

Same tbh. I usually don't even care about vintage aesthetics that much but was still concerned in this case. Not that a SSH (or even HSH) SG doesn't seem like cool idea... hmm...

If you drill 4 holes into the neck pick-up ring you can mount two single coils and go from there

Ive been VERY seriously considering routing out my G400 for a middle pickup and running it with three humbucker-sized P90-or-otherwise-single-coil pickups. Right now I've got a H90 (buckersized p90) in the neck and I love the sound. Aesthetically and in practice, I think a classic "reverse" Firebird with Fender Jaguar style triple singles and controls would be awesome. Theyre already tonally closer to Fenders than the SG & LP are, too.

I installed a Duesenberg trem on my Goldtop which I traded for a CS Strat. I had removed the trem before I traded the Les Paul but a week or so ago I couldn't find the trem and assumed that I'd left it in the case. I'd just bought an SG and wanted to install it om the SG. and man I was disappointed until; yesterday that is. I was looking for something else and there it was sitting inside my sewing kit box..Sometimes the universe looks after us.But now I'm looking for the posts that I'd forgotten about and here they are in the same box . Great video. Good to know about this option. Roller bridge sounds like a good idea. FYI, Bigsby does make "mod free" adaptor plates for lots of guitars. For some Gibsons, the adaptor mounts onto the existing post bushings. The Bigsby mounts onto the adaptor, then over the edge and the Bigsby's hinged end section secures by using the strap button hole. None of it touches the front of the guitar and is slightly stood off the body at the strap button hole. The stand off is a bit bigger diameter than the button and most likely, will leave a mark. Still a Bigsby for tuning stability (iffy ???). Then.... expensive and relatively heavy.

+ sentforth5 Just curious, because even bigsby's, you have to retune, every time you use them. But bigsby's, have different holes you have to drill too. But locking tuners, rollerbridge, with the dusenburg, sounds like the way to go! I especially like, how it uses the holes for the stopbar tail piece. No drilling, or making the upgrade a "permanent" fixture with extra drilled holes in your guitar that you paid thousands of dollars for!
@sentforth5

@@mr.fancypants698 Both my Les Pauls stay in tune quite well all things considered, and I have yet to get locking tuners! That's on the list, but I'm just a working man. Cool vid, but I did want to mention that aftermarket Bigsby Trems can be used with an adapter plate so there is no permanent mods required. For the B5 (which is for flat top guitars) the V5 plate is made for SGs to only require the tailpiece posts. Obviously you'd still have all the issues with a nitro finish, just more of it (as the area covered is larger). Also, You'd also almost have to upgrade the bridge (Roller or TUSQ) and I'd recommend a TUSQ nut as well unless you only plan on light use like you demonstrated. I upgraded to a TUSQ and it made a phenomenal difference! As alway Phil, great content! Thanks for all the hard work you put into this channel!

This is a great product demo, and it adds some really cool flair (and vibrato, for those who need and want it) to the SG! ... but Imo, it doesn't turn the SG into an HH strat, but it's probably as close as you can get without tearing the instrument apart and modifying it to be 25.5 inch scale, which I'm sure is an engineering feat that might be more easily and cheaply accomplished by simply building a new instrument -- with the added bonus of then having a second instrument.

They sell a non permanent solution for the bigsby vibrato. It's called the vibramate. He's not going for a classic strat sound though, he's going for a hotrod, like someone took a fender and refitted it with a couple of PAFs, that's even in the title of the video and he mentions it at the beginning. However I do agree scale length works against him slightly there, and there's no easy way to stretch the scale length on an SG. You can compensate pretty effectively by picking closer to the bridge and even by moving the pickups towards the bridge... until you come up against the bridge and then you can't go any further. I think it gets pretty darn close though.
@williamthomson7624
@williamthomson7624 5 лет назад
Amateur experts on parade. Scale length has nothing to do with it. I play a Strat with a 24 ¾” scale neck and it sounds exactly like it did before I installed it. Educate yourselves by experience. The tone difference resides in the pickups and their dimensional relations to the bridge and each other. Stock single coil pickups have half the magnet width and about half the passive resistance of humbuckers so they pass higher frequencies at less amplitude. Scale doesn’t matter and wood species doesn’t matter.

I have one in a Firebird kit guitar I put together, and like it; it seems well-built, and paired with a Schaller roller bridge it stays in tune well. My only complaint is that the bar feels very obtrusive compared with a Stratocaster; if I had it to do over I'd mount it a couple of inches further back on the body in the hopes that would make it feel less in the way.

Very nice unit. Guitar Fetish also has a post mount trem that is $50-60 depending on the finish. My Bigsby equipped guitars all have Wilkinson roller bridges and locking tuners. If I keep the nut lubed and stretch the strings well on installation, they stay in tune pretty well. I found locking tuners for my Les Paul that look just like the stock ones. My Tele has Gotoh locking tuners that look identical to the stoock vintage style. Direct replacement on both. No drilling. I also like a taller than stock spring. The adjustment on the Dusenberg would be handy for gettiing that extra height.

I have the exact same "Duesenberg Les Trem" bridge on my "ESP/LTD EC-1000FM Deluxe". I installed it a bit over a year ago, and I'm extremely satisfied with it. I had to add a "Schaller STM Tunamatic Roller Bridge", and an "Earvana graphite nut for ESP/LTD" to get rid of most every intonation issues (the guitar originally came equipped with high end locking tuners). And with a tiny bit of nut lubricant (specially for the G string), the guitar has no tuning issue whatsoever, even when abusing the tremolo. For some people, the "con" may be that you don't have a whole lot of tremolo "range" ... it's more like a "Bigsby" kind of tremolo action than a "Strat" tremolo action, and certainly never the range of a "Floyd Rose" tremolo action. THAT'S IT FOLKS ! HAVE FUN ! PLAY LOUD !

I finally saved up enough to order the harley benton 2x12 vintage slant cabinet. When I went to order it they are sold out for 5 to 6 weeks. I just ordered the horizontal vintage 2x12. I'll let you know what I think of it. For my Marshall dsl1cr

Those things are awesome! I have one on my 335 and bought another one for my Les Paul. The guitar sounds great! But the SG will sound a bit different from a Strat because of the different scale lengths, though.
