How to add accessories such as a barber strop to the arm holes of a 1970s Sir Koken Barber Chair

I have a 1970s Koken Sir Thoroughbred Hydraulic Barber Chair, model #0880-880. Over time, I've added a couple of Lincoln headrest and replaced the latch mount with a Lincoln one with minor replacement of the screws. Now it was time to add a barber strop (sometimes called a razor strop or barber strap) to be hung from the barber chair.
If you only plan on hanging a razor strop but no other accessories, you'll only need one eyebolt with a 5/16" thread. I believe length of the eyebolt of 1.5" to 2" is plenty. In the video I use a 4" eyebolt, but that is the shortest they had in the store (supply chain issues).
While the eyebolt does come with a bolt, I suggest buying locking 5/16" bolts instead, to prevent the eyebolt from loosening during regular use.
If you plan on using both armrests with the eyebolts and rearranging the eyebolts to fit the accessories, the standard bolts will work perfectly.

Creative. A creative use for the manicure tray mount holes. For those that might like details. The frame of Kat's barber chair here is the Koken Thoroughbred model. As Kat said, introduced and popular in the '70s, and still in use in some shops many years later. (Mine had one.) The holes in the end of each arm rest were for a chair-side manicurist. She (generally, as never saw a male manicurist) had a small tray with a rod attached and extending underneath. She placed the rod into one of the holes, and the tray held her finger bowl and manicuring tools. There is one on each side to service each hand of the client. Some Thoroughbreds did have a strop mount (as mine did), some barbers installed their own. It was an eye screw, rather than eye bolt. Similar to Kat's fix, but with wood threads rather than machined threads. A hole was drilled into the underside of the arm rest near the back since that portion of the arm rest under the upholstery is all wood, and the eye screw, screwed in. It was near the rear so it did not swing or bump against the clients leg. And also, the Thoroughbred had an ash tray installed into the right arm rest near the front, behind the manicurist's tray hole. Just furnishing some trivial tid-bits for those who may want to keep, or restore a barber chair in a somewhat authentic form. Another help suggestion for Kat's fix. If you are staying with the longer eye bolt, or even a slightly shorter one, here's a suggestion: thread a nut onto the bolt, then insert the bolt into the (manicure tray) hole as you did. Place a second nut onto the bolt shaft extending upward. Screw the top nut down as far as you like...good idea just to the top of the threads. Then with the top nut sitting flush against the mount, turn the bottom nut upward until it reaches the underside of the arm, then tight the underside one with a wrench. This will keep your eye bolt from moving up and down, or swiveling.

Health & Safety regulations require by law that all Barber chairs must be fitted with a seat belt from September 2022 (You should have two pedals on your barbers chair one for raising & lowering your chair and a red pedal when pressed becomes an ejector seat for all the fans who keep asking you to get a head shave!)

Is this just for certain states or is it a nation wide rule,I love the idea,id love to be buckled in while having an amazing feminine make over!!

Wouldn't surprise me if this was NY/NJ and California. Everything is over regulated and illegal here. No traditional straights. No strops. No neck dusters. On the other hand? I wish I had a barber chair. (I do already.) With a seat belt for my autistic 5 year old. 😂 Everytime I have to give him a haircut. Me and the ex wife have to chase him around the house, hold him down, and I have to put him in a headlock and he's just getting bigger. Hmm?... Retrofit. Thanks for the idea.
