Nice tutorial. I like how Yetti is checking out the outlet. :) Those easy boxes look better than the ones I've seen in the U.S. The ones we have in my area have some clamps on the sides. I have to make the opening a little wider to get them in. Plus, ours have the same front brackets as yours, so the top and bottom brackets keep the box from pushing into the wall, and the side clamps keep it from pulling out. Yours looks like it would really clamp tight.

You forgot to mention you want to make sure you use the same gauge wire either 12 or 14 as going into the bottom recepticle. If its a 20amp breaker and #12 into the bottom, per code you have to use #12 to feed a additional receptacle .
@localppc242
@localppc242 7 месяцев назад
Is that USA code or Canadian Code?
@TheForgottenMan270
@TheForgottenMan270 7 месяцев назад
You actually don't. Wire gauge is based on load size. Because the TV will be well below 15 amps the load capacity of a 14 is capable of carrying that current. The only reason why a 12 or 14 is used coming from the respective breaker is the potential. And the potential is determined on location. So in the bedroom a load size will usually be small so a 14 gauge wire can handle the load. And the fact that this added outlet is a dead end the load on that wire will be relatively small. It probably won't see more than 3 amps at best, if I took a guess.
@timwilson3150
@timwilson3150 7 месяцев назад
@@TheForgottenMan270Actually you do. You have no idea what that outlet might be used for in the future.
@co1973
@co1973 7 месяцев назад
@@TheForgottenMan270 Electrical codes are not based on "guesses". The code is very clear about what's required, because you never know what the next person will do with what you've installed. The code is written to provide the best protection possible, without being so unreasonable that people might disregard it altogether.

hmmmm, thats interesting. I've always used the plastic boxes with the single tab on opposite corners. I found them over the years to be not that secure, and sometimes the tabs get bent and don't hold very well. I will definitely be looking for that metal box next time I'm in Home Depot. Might just pick up a couple to have on hand.. You learn something literally every day. Great stuff there. Thanks!

Do you ever use the prefab recessed boxes made to go behind TV’s. I didn’t really know they made them until I was hanging TV’s in a church one day and had to add receptacles for each tv on different walls, and while in the store searching for materials be it the Home Depot or Lowe’s, I happened to see a kit for a tv receptacle. It came in basically two kinds. One was a white plastic rectangular bracket with a hole for a plastic box provided in the kit and it was recessed and slanted either left or right so when the receptacle was installed it was in like a divet in the wall and when something was plugged in you could mount the tv on the wall since the plug was recessed you could plug the tv in and it could be flush to the wall without the plug sticking out holding the tv away from the wall a bit because of the cord. The other brand was basically the same except it had a second slot on the opposite side of the rectangular plastic bracket made with like a string curtain or flap for like low voltage cables for like hdmi or other cables for the tv to be ran in the wall. I just thought it was pretty cool. Love your videos. Though. Keep them coming. Ibew local 1205 Gainesville, FL.

I just installed a Samsung Frame TV for my daughter over her wood burning fireplace (my first wall mounted TV install). The Frame is designed to mount flush to the wall like framed art. I had to install a 14”x14” recessed box for the One Connect controller, power receptacle & other wiring. She had 3 HDMI cables and a fiber optic cable to pull (audio system, center channel speaker, game box, etc.) and connect to the controller. Took a while but turned out great. When only installing a flush mounted electrical outlet like in the video how would you hide any future cabling? It looks like your original electrician set the box too deep. I prefer a plastic box, in this case preferably a recessed one designed for TV mounting, over metal in a residence. Good video presentation Karly.

WIth the wire strippers you used to curl the wire I use the griping part at the tip. I find that if I grab the wire and rotate the stripers it curls nicely. RIght amount of gap to slip behind the hold down screw and tucks fully in behind. Never had to put electrical tape on my plugs in metal boxes because the way the box is designed even though they shift from side to side slightly to make true 90 degrees they will never touch the sides. Also if any tape goes on it is cover the box so the plaster or plasters do not get Crap inside the box as they are so sloppy. Personally I do that part myself just air tight seal the box to the wall when doing my own home renovations. Makes for a very smooth finish and also stops any drafts and should there be a fire it will take time to get though. Plaster is fire rated to 30 minutes and not a fan of plastic junction boxes at all.

Sometimes people cut their videos off so quick, some times we are multi tasking because it’s nice to learn trips n new info… instead of music all the time, while attempting to work or do chores. lol😂😂😂 Good job keep it up. Oh you asked for future how to….. How about a smart outlet, that Alexa can shut off, that does daisy chan a bunch of others, to wipe them all out. Like a big octopus outlet. ???🤔😉

Great tutorial. The only thing that I would have done differently is use a plastic "old work" box. Unfortunately I disagree with you about the pigtails on the outlet, in theory it is a great Idea but I find that troubleshooting is easier when the device is used for the splice. The only time that I pigtail the wires is if I have more than 2 Romex coming into a box and even then I only pigtail the "load" wires. But Of course there are other exceptions too; every situation is different. Everyone has their own personal preferences and that's perfectly ok too. Either way works....😁

I had a master electrician tell me not to use marettes for more than 2-3 wires. He said to use push in connectors. What’s your take? Also another electrician told me he doesn’t tape the receptacles. Reason being was that if there’s a short, the breaker will trip but with tape, the connection could be poor but still juicing the receptacle. Could you do a video about the things you’ve heard as an electrician that have opposing sides? Or even things that you’ve seen done in different ways but have chosen one way or another. 🙏 Merry Christmas from Ontario🇨🇦

Once i saw a neutral on the hot for a garbage disposal, changed it to a GFCI, made a single pigtail, moved it to the neutral terminal, and then the outlet wouldnt work
