BLENDER 4.2: The "Import Images as Planes" functionality has been added to base blender, no need to enable an addon. Just press Shift+A, go to Image, and select Mesh Plane.
Nice, this is the simplest “vanilla” decal tutorial I’ve seen thanks! Also for the non transparent backgrounds you don’t need the mix shader, the image comes with the transparency already being fed into the transmission of the principal BSDF, you can just put the image and with the color ramp into that transparency instead. Either way, really great tutorial!
Absolutely brilliant, quick and concise tutorial. I've been looking around for ways of doing this and your video is the life safer. Thank you so much man.
Bro I made a 1mm thick mesh, zoomed in like ant man in the quantum realm, marked the seams, unwrapped it, only for my product label to be disproportionate to the mesh. Thank you for this...
okay I found a problem when I hit CTRL+J to join my decals to my object (to make them all one object) the decals stretch over the full object! how do I join them without distortion?
Unfortunately, despite following everything on screen, my logo appears inside of the geometry, Tried all the settings to set it above the surface but it just is stuck like 1 thin layer behind it.
hello, while using images as planes, the shadows of the planes are falling on the other objects of the scene, making it look weird. Is there any solution for that?
Is there a way to "snap" the logo to the object? Because when I try to measure it by eye it never sits exactly in top. Also, when I try to parent the image to the object it doesn´t move correctly when I move it.
once you import the image as a plane rotate it by clicking r or using the rotation tool on which ever axis you need so that's the image is parallel to the surface your trying to put it on.
well this isn't working at all for my bottle. the discord group is telling me to search for unwrap uv and stuff like that but i have no idea what all of that means
Thanks for the tuto; i was just wondering if someone could explain how to make one single chosen color from a texture image could be transformed into alpha only by nodes ? Could you ? Thanks again
This came out on my birthday, I just realized. EDIT: How would I export this with my model? I am trying to import to Roblox and I wanted to know I if I just export the texture as is.
Thanks for a great and easy-to-follow tutorial. I'm trying to shrinkwrap a decal that shall go all the way around a bottle. But Blender cuts the decal halfway around. Any suggestions on how to solve this? Thanks in advance!
maybe try making a copy of your model, scale it up slightly, cut off the parts that you don't need to be a decal, then apply your decal material. hope this helped
Issue: Alpha channel causes shadow on a reflective surface while using Ambient Occlusion mask in shader. Fix: Object Properties > Visibility > Ray Visibility > Uncheck shadows
