In this video i'll show you How to add Discrete port / Manual port on microstrip patch antenna in CST. Adding a discrete port or manual port in CST Microwave Studio involves several steps:
1. Set Up the Antenna Model
Ensure that your microstrip patch antenna is correctly set up in the workspace.
2. Selecting the Edge for the Port
Navigate to the edge of the microstrip where the port will be inserted.
3. Adding the Port
Follow these steps to add a discrete port or manual port:
a. Click on the "Discrete Port" or "Port" button on the toolbar.
b. On the port settings dialog box that pops up, you can adjust various parameters. Some important parameters include:
"Label": Set a name for the port.
"Impedance": Usually 50 Ohms in antenna design.
"Mode": Set to "TEM" for microstrip patch antennas.
"Orientation": Can be set based on whether you want a port normal to the patch (Z orientation) or along the patch (X or Y orientation).
c. After setting up the port parameters, select the edge or faces where the port is to be placed.
d. Click the "Create Port" button.
e. A port with the specified parameters will be created on the selected edge of the microstrip patch antenna.
4. Checking the Port
Once the port is added, check the position and orientation of the port. You can adjust the port if necessary by selecting it and modifying its properties in the properties window.
5. Simulating the Antenna
Once you've added all the necessary ports, you can start your simulation.
Remember to always double-check your geometry and your port settings before you run a simulation. Incorrect port settings or poorly-placed ports can result in inaccurate results.
Note: The exact steps might differ slightly depending on the version of CST you're using. The steps above are applicable for CST Studio Suite 2020 and may need slight adjustment for later versions. If you're unsure, always refer to the official CST documentation or support resources.

Is it OK if the port touches the ground? Cause if it doesn't, result wouldn't be the same. How can I understand which one is correct?
