Great video. Thanks for the suggestion to watch it in your comment reply of your other video. I will try these tips. I suspected that part of my issues was because of moving to my new M2 Max at the same time as diving into learning Resolve studio as well, and just not understanding how it all works. I too felt exactly the same after watching all the other Tech RU-vidrs gush over the M Series Max chips and thought like you, I could do anything with it without any extra steps. Your honesty and candidness has quickly made you one of my favourite channels to watch. In fact I like your videos so much that I also subscribed to your other channel as well.

So glad I've been able to help! It definitely seems like we're at similar stages, learning together. You have an incredible laptop so hopefully I've been able to help you appreciate what it's good at and realize what it's bad at (and what pretty much every other laptop is bad at too)! I really appreciate your support and comments and look forward to chatting more 👊

Looking forward to the M1 video. I’ve been wanting a MacBook Pro for sometime but that price is so difficult to swallow.

I am really looking forward to making it! It's taking me a little longer to get it than I was hoping (should get it in the next few days... the AppleCare is fixing EVERYTHING on it before I get it), so I'm not sure if I will be able to compare them side-by-side. But at least I now have a lot of time with the M3 Max and will have a lot of my own benchmarks to compare the M1 too. Stay tuned!

Really enjoying watching your videos and learning heaps. I just purchased an entry level M2 Macbook Air (for travel) and this little tip makes a huge difference to my timeline with some of the effects that I have been trying out. Greetings from Australia, I did notice the kangaroos in your video edit.

Glad you found the channel and I'm happy to hear it's been helping out. I think that M2 Air is a sweet laptop, and to be honest, I want one. I think (from my research and brief playing around with one in the store) they are the best laptops you can get for most people. What are your first impressions of it?! Greetings from Vancouver Island :) 👊

New featured my work around in a video! I love it 🎉 I'm glad this advice can make its way out there since my new channel is not about video production.

Yes, GREAT suggestion! I learn so much from considerate commenters I love it. I know I'm a small channel and don't reach a ton of people, but I know I'm reaching some so that's awesome!

Compared to my 3-week-old channel your Mr. Beast 😂. I found a very useful tweak of the ZVE-1. I programmed the record button for stabilization options. This allows me to use one of the buttons to toggle Dynamic Stabe. I don't know why but that's been so helpful. I also programmed the left button to toggle focus peaking off and on. Just gives you that confidence that it's not locking onto the wrong thing.

@@AISkillBoost Great tips. I love once you dial in your camera to be efficient. I did that in the past but could/should tweak a few more things now that my usage has changed. The channel is looking great man! Can't wait to see how things go for you in 2024. Keep it up! 👍

To be fair, I edit pretty much all of my videos on my m1 iPad. It does pretty much everything that I want to do. Things that get it chugging along are noise reduction and film grain, so I tend to do everything, then go back and put those nodes in just before I render out. I’m still impressed how quick the iPad renders. I have ordered the m3 max MacBook mainly to do 3d stuff on the go. I know that it’s going to be a relatively good computer for my needs, but the cost of these things is just getting out of hand.

That's awesome you have such great results on an iPad. I'll have to tinker around with that in the future. So what do you mean exactly when you say you're going to use it for 3D things? Because you're right it does really sound like that M3 Max is insane for 3D stuff... I'm guessing design, maybe autoCAD? I found it not quite good enough gpu-wise for doing video editing and I think it's probably overkilling areas that I don't need it to be Oracle in so I'm actually returning mine and got a m1 Max. It should show up soon so I'll have some content out on that in case you're curious in the near future.

@@thesahdstudio 3d wise is pretty much just blender. So, I do a lot of photo composites in photoshop and basically I taught myself blender to render out exotic backgrounds. Like, I’m not going to go to Egypt to get pictures of the pyramids, but I can download 3d models, or make them, and set everything up properly, like camera height, distortion, model height etc. Also, I do some 3d modelling in blender for 3d printing. Like I say, when the bab went to uni, she took my pc so I’m left with the iPad, which isn’t too bad at all for photoshop if you work around its limitations. What I’m trying to say is I know for solid and wireframe modelling it will be fine, I’m just hoping that I can knock out some quick previews in blender, say in a studio or when I’m trying to show my ideas. The full renders can happen overnight for all I care.

@@edgey8D that's awesome. Sounds like you have a cool skillset! I JUST got my M1 Max as I'm going to return the M3 Max (the m1 max cost HALF). You get to the be the first one I've told! Gotta admit, first impressions are pretty darn good. It'll be interesting to run it through all the tests.

@@thesahdstudio oh yes. I very nearly bought one before Christmas. They were selling the M1 Max, 64gb, 4 tb for 2500 I think. If I didn’t need the ray tracing stuff for renders, I absolutely would have gotten it. It’ll be interesting to see how it runs in real life for you in resolve. Also, could you imagine if they supported the eGPUs for current gen?😳😂

Apple shills over-bloated the M chip so much that I myself got fooled. But in your case I highly recommend using external SSD as one guy hit 300TBW within 6 months and the drive was like 500TBW rated for the 512GB or something. So for longevity it's really advised to have an external SSD that you just keep around for cache. If it gets busted then no biggie. You can get 1-2TB SSD's for a cheap now. Get a 1-2TB NVMe m.2 SSD and a thunderbolt encloser. Best Apple M3 chip review ever!

Your last message was the inspiration for this video, so thanks for that! 👊 And yeah, I think you are correct about the drive so I think I will look into that. Should get the M1 Max at the end of the month so it'll be interesting to compare these two while I can!

Great to see you finally got a way around it. BUT! here is the BUT!, if you switch to M1 MAX which does render clips 50% slower then M3 MAX, so the way you just mention in your video might not work as smooth as you wished. but again, try the M1 MAX with the way if you feel it's alright then yes, fully agreed with you! I would get M1 MAX too if i needed to, it is beyond a normal person would need :D, but i settled for M3 pro atm and im happy too :D

I should have a week or so with both the M1 and M3 Max and during that time I will test them side by side to really see if that extra $3,000 CAD is worth it hehe. I mean worst case scenario I turn smart render always on...although now that I think about it, with how fast I trim my main video... maybe proxies are a better choice. I'll be going back to what I used to do lol. Anyway. Good food for thought, thanks for the reminder. I suppose I can shave a few seconds off if it means I get to upgrade a bunch of other stuff. I am also tinkering around with Final Cut Pro at the moment. We'll see if that becomes a thing. It does seem pretty snappy to start, but I am so used to Resolve.

I'm a bit confused as to why you don't use a newer Windows machine with a graphics card as apposed to the Macs? Wouldn't that do your effects faster without spending as much on the machine?
@thesahdstudio

So about a month ago I sold my Alienware 11th gen i7 with an rtx 3080 because to be honest, it wasn't that great when video editing. I was always so surprised and disappointed. Now, I have realized SINCE then that what it did well was dealing with the VFX but that's about it. CPU does a lot of the work during the actual editing. Also pretty much ALL I do on a computer is related to being a creator. And when I look at most of the creators out there on RU-vid, they all use Mac. So I've been curious too... are they really that good? Since getting one I will say the CPU stuff is better than I expected and the GPU stuff is worse. The overall editing experience is way better but playing with effects in Resolve is worse. But it's the battery man... it's the power you get ON battery. It's insane. It's not even a competition... and even right now, writing to you I'm sitting on my couch which is how I like to work sometimes. You sure have to pay for a Mac though that's for sure... I'm about to return the M3 Max and get something else (but it WILL be in the Apple ecosystem)... video is coming soon.

All the RU-vidrs gushing over the M3s, are going to be gushing over the M4s when they come out. That’s what they’re paid to do.
