I had the same problem, so I bought the next size up bumper and attach it horizontally from the cleat to the tower and I can adjust it as well. Works great.
Hey Jay, Great Video, well done. Question: Since you need to get to the underside of the gunnels to install the wood and screw on the nut, I'm having difficulties understanding how to gain access. I have a brand new 252SE. I want to install 4 cleats. The only one I can easily get to is under the steering wheel compartment. Any help will be appreciated.
The 252 is styled a bit different than the 242. My wet storage compartments on the swim platform give me access in the rear. Yours are on the sliding seatback...you could possibly remove the speaker to gain access? 🤔 For the front, I went through the head compartment. I removed the forward facing bulkhead for access. Hope that helps you out some.
Hey Nick . I have the same boat . And trying to install this week coming up. Hey how did it go with access ? Do you have pictures. This is so well needed . Last year I scratched the gel coat a whole lot due to not having the bumpers on a better position.
Smok'n Jay, great video thanks for putting this together. I plan to install mine this weekend and then adding the side SeaDek piece. Can you please provide a photo of how you incorporated the SeaDek? Did you drill a hole in the SeaDek? Is it mounted on top of SeaDek? Is it mounted under the SeaDek? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Again, Ron
Thanks for watching Ron. I removed the cleat and then added the seadek. With seadek over the hole, I could still feel where it was, so I drilled through the seadek using the counter sinking bit. Then I put the cleat back in over the top. You can see the end result in my video, "The 5 things you need for your Yamaha boat". Or if you send me you email or FB, I'd be happy to send pictures.
@@SmoknJaysGarage just watched you top 5 video, all good tips. Could not get a good view of SeaDek on new cleat attachment. If you have any pictures please send to rvictorcox@gmail.com. Thanks again for helping a fellow 242x owner. Definitely interested in seeing that front cleat install video when you complete.
Hey Jay, how many per side do you think is best? 2 or 3 per side. Also, what size fenders are best, and do they need covers? if so, where can i get covers? Thanks. Waiting on my 195S to show up.
I added 2 cleats per side, this one and one by the front grab rail. 2 fenders is probably enough (and what I see most people doing), but I personally use 4. I don't want scratches on the boat. I use a G4 size fender. They are roughly 23" long and 6" thick. Covers aren't needed, but again, I personally have them. Mostly because I got Marine Corps flag covers, and they look really cool and match the boat well. They do actually prevent scuffing the fenders, which can be unsightly, especially on a white fender.
Thanks Jay. Follow up - so you use 4 fenders. Two on the factory cleat and 2 of these new mounts? Also - you mention covers not necessary. But could be some scuffs. Do the fenders scuff the boat? Or vise versa? Thanks again.
@@srakfleming5888 yes, I use 4 fenders. 2 with these cleats, 1 on the factory cleat by the windshield, and 1 tied to the tower. (Probably overkill, but no dock scratches 😀) The dock may potentially scuff the fenders. But the boat is fine. I had a few black scuffs on the fenders when I put the covers on. While I got the covers more for looks, they do actually protect the fenders.
Based on it's location, it doesn't get any water. However, if it were to rain or something, yes, it does drain. The bottom has a small drain hole. Where I have mine mounted, it will drain into my wet storage compartment which will drain out the back of the boat.
Wow. looks great, awesome idea, what is the website location. We also put sea deck on the transom area of our 2020 242SE, but we did not place the strip along the side of the boat, it looked crowded. I'd like to hear you opinion when you get yours. Thanks Jay.
Smok'n Jay, thanks for the video. Love your boat. We just bought 2021 SX190. Love the idea of adding that simple fixture specifically for the bumper. It's perfect and looks like it comes from factory. Well done. Can you provide the link to find these fixtures. Thanks. Ooops, I found it. Facebook. Thanks.
