How to add more value to your Tobii EyeTracker by using FaceTrackNoIR to enable tracking in any game

Tobii EyeTracker 4c and 5 especially is a great device for Eura and American Truck Simulator but it also has a somewhat limited support for games in general.
For me personally, its games like Assetto Corsa, Dovetail Train Simulator and the upcoming Flight Simulator 2020 that is of most concern. For you it might be other games and for all of us theres a solution!
FaceTrackNoIR is a third party application that aims to support all trackers and tracking protocols and it does a pretty good job too. Just recently they added support for Tobii EyeTracker 4c. Even better news, that support covers the new EyeTracker 5 too!
So today I will give you a short introduction to FaceTrackNoIR and how you configure it for Tobii EyeTracker x.
Of course, the calibration is quite individual so I will only talk about that in general terms but it shouldnt be any problem for you to get started although the heavy work you will have to do yourself.

Thank you. I got the Tobii 5 yesterday after watching your previous videos and just bought the FaceTrackNoir. My parking in ETS2 sucks so been playing Scania Truck Driving Sim. Works even better with FaceTrackerNoir. Even the older Trucks and Trailers & Euro Truck Sim 1 work.

Now you're talking my language, mate! Good work! The creator of Opentrack, sthalik, used to help develop FaceTrackNoIR and Opentrack was once forked out from FaceTrackNoIR. Some history too! :=) NOTE! The output protocol you used is FreeTrack, NOT FaceTrack!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for great info Wombat. My main use will be ATS/ETS2 but also wanted to use it for rFactor2 and Train Simulator and it sure sounds like this software will do that. Until now I have been using an opentrack 3-IR LED system but I've always found having to wear a hat to be less than optimal.

Thanks for this, I came here because TET5 doesn't work that satisfying in Farming Simulator 22 and read about FaceTrackNoIR in the Giants forums, eventually ended up here. So thanks for the overview, I think I'm going to buy that handy tool then. Subbed!

I bought a Tobii 5 earlier this year and it works great with ETS2 (excellent in game settings) and Elite Dangerous (External "Game Hub" app by tobii), but for Farming Simulator 19 it's crap, what were giants thinking, so settings, no options. The forums pointed me here to try out the app. So, Thanks for doing this.

@@alwayshardstyle1623 Just really plug and play, but had no settings in the game to adjust it. basically to look behind you (for reversing) you had to break your own neck. I gave up after a while. But with ETS2 no issues. as that has settings you can tweak. I've not got FS22 so not sure what settings it has.

I'd recommend an MAR coating on your next lenses you buy chief, reduces glare visually (good for PC use) and removes the reflections we see when on the surfaces of the lenses when your moving around having your screen project all over your eyes =] Pretty cheap and you can usually get a hydrophobic version now so easy to clean.

Installed adins and tracker. I have 4c model, when i open FaceNOIR - I see only Tobi5 tracker not 4C. But even with that - it works in NOIR, BUT how can I enable it in Assetto corsa? Which view etc... Any help please ?

Hello Wombat - thanks for the video. Have a new Tobii5 and went directly to get facetracknoir - incredible price for whats in. Got it working for FS Flightsim 2020 and Assetto Corsa Competizione but not for the original Assetto Corsa. Any help for me since i seem to miss something in the AC configuration cannot find where to enable the headtracker. Saw several setups for how to set facetracknoir but not what to do with AC itself. Do the configuration files need to be altered? All videos i saw looked like it should work right away when facetrack is active. Since i saw you having it also in your review i decided to drop this lines. I use the Tobii 5 Plugin and Freetrack. Help for the right direction would be much appreciated.

It's in the tracker source (1st master=) click on the settings tab, and its under enable axis group to the right.

Looking forward to trying facetracknoir with my 4c I have had facetracknoir for ages (I used it with ps3eye and kinect but haven't tried setting it up with Tobii 4c yet)

I suspect it will work just like it does with ET5 since the plugin probably dont use the additional hardware found in the newer eye tracker. And it aint bad at all!

@@WombatTrucker I'm looking forward to trying to get it sorted out either my Tobii 4c is faulty or I'm faulty as when it's plugged in and it's used as head tracker only it looks either left or right with very little to no movement from me if I use the eye tracking it bounces all over the place (makes me feel dizzy) So I hope facetracknoir might help a bit but we will see 🙂

Do you know if this works with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020? I have been trying to find a way to get my new Tobii Eye Tracker 5 to work with it and cannot figure it out. Update: So I have it tracking in the flight simulator but my camera is way off and just floats around. Everything else works perfectly but my camera doesn't stay in the cockpit.

I'm looking simply for a way to move the cursor with my eyes and click with a modified mouse for feet. Is it possible t just move the cursor? Sounds silly but it seemes as if it was only made for games

Im fine with my TrackIR 5 as its much easier to use on games and dont have to deal with the third party softwares. I mean given the price point you would expect the thing to support more games. So that why I would say TrackIR 5 is better but with Tobi you dont need anything but a head and some eyeballs to use it. XD

WOW! This could make Tobii Eye tracker even more useful. I'm wondering if it would make Farming Simulator track My head instead of My eyes. Annoying, that! Oh, by the way, You were saying "Jaw" with a hard J. Since it refers to turning the head, and the deveopers website is a .NL domain, I would suggest that it might be pronounced with the Scandinavian soft J sound, so that it sounds like "Yaw," which is the English word for turning. Purchased and installed. I will test it Tomorrow. (It's late here, I'm going to bed now)

Hahaha, I have watched a ton of FS2020 videos so I knew how to pronounce it (and how not too) and STILL, I forgot about it! Thanks for the reminder. Once FS2020 is out, I should be able to learn and never again forget how to pronounce Yaw properly 😂 Its going to be very interesting to see what we're able to do with ET5 once FaceTrackNoIr implements proper support for it.

Hello, i use this program for fs22. But my tobii works also without it. I want to use the program to adjust the movement a little bit, but when I change settings, nothing happens. Also with extreme settings I see no change. Do you maybe know what kind of settings I need to use for making the program work?

Here are my settings : source 1ste, tobii eye tracker (settings enable all axcles except z) source 2st empty, filter accela filter mk2, game protocol freetrack 2.1 (settings, trackir.exe enabled, interface use trackir hide freetrack), additional you could set up the values in the button menus. Last but important hit the go button in the middle of the screen

Hi wombat the game you showed Assetto Corsa this is why I bought this plugin as it was not supported by Tobii EyeTracker 4c but it messed up my other games which was Project Cars 2 which was supported by Tobii EyeTracker 4c but it never worked again even when I uninstalled the plugin and reinstalled Tobii EyeTracker 4c software so glad i brought the NaturalPoint - TrackIR 5 + TrackClip Pro id tell any one not to waste there money on Tobii EyeTracker 4 or the new 5

If you have the plugin on auto start or used it while playing games that already support Tobii, of course it will mess things up! As I said in the video, don’t auto start FaceTrackNoIR. The issue you had was caused by you, not Eyetracker 4C or 5.
