@@dari7260I needed something to transmit between two buildings outside so I used a "Point to Point Wireless WiFi Bridge" that I bought on Amazon for about $110. It has been very reliable. Uptime is close to 100%. There are several videos on YT about how to setup\use P-to-P Wifi outdoor bridge. As far as indoors, you can configure a Netgear router be a WiFi receiver (Access point), then connect up Ethernet devices (computer, printer, TV, Gaming system) to the Ethernet ports on the back of the router.

This is one of the most helpful videos I've seen during my search! Question though: Will the effect Wireless devices connected to router 1? My router and other instructions I find, warn me that the wifi should be disabled on router 1 to avoid issues. The wifi from router 1 does reach the area that router 2 is servicing, but it's about 50% strength at best. Quite often dips to the point is disconnection. Should I do as this video instructs? Or should I set up router 2 as it's own SSID to avoid both router's wifi getting mixed up or whatever?

These instructions are misleading, and incorrect in several areas : #1 : The new (AP) router may already be configured with the same gateway IP, in which case it will have to be changed - otherwise, both router and modem-router combo can be "knocked out" - no internet connection. #2: If the modem-router WiFi is to be used, then the (AP) router WiFi must be configured to use different channel frequencies - and better to use different SSID names. #3: DHCP must be disabled on the secondary (AP) router, otherwise there will be random IP assignments to network devices - leading to dropped connections.

how do you connect it wirelessly? When I configure my routers this only works when its physically wired to the first router. It won't work if its not connected via an ethernet cable.
@thorodin3631
@thorodin3631 3 года назад
@Butler I tried that, the routers I'm using won't work at all unless it is wired directly to the first router. what I ended up doing is using a wifi extender that has a ethernet port. connecting that to my main router, then using the ethernet port to plug into the second router to create an access point. works similar to a mesh system. that said, I cannot get the second and 3rd routers to link wirelessly to my main router.

@jimjenkins003

The second router looks like the one I have and is supposed to be able to be used without an ethernet cable. I believe you have to set it up as a repeater and not an access point so this is the wrong video to watch. You need to check out something called DD-WRT that when installed will turn a lot of routers into wireless repeaters (if that's the correct term) There are plenty of RU-vid videos on how to do this but you need some knowledge on how to do firmware upgrades.

@AnimefantasyCN

If you want it that way, I’d probably recommend a WiFi extender. Access points are ideally for people who want to run long Ethernet cables from the router to another router on the other side of your house or business so you get better overall coverage. Extenders only take you so far but if you don’t have the wiring or don’t want to wire your home, that’s pretty much all that’s available for now. Or get a better primary router I guess.
@donkmeister
@donkmeister 4 года назад
Not at all useless - I'm on this video because I want to add a second AP to my network so that I can access wifi all over my house and a third AP to access wifi in my garden. I already have Cat6 wiring to every part of the house, so I might a well use it and have better wifi throughput rather than having a wifi extender or mesh network.

Wired connections are more reliable and stable. A choice of yours. Nowadays newer routers are more capable but at higher costs, mostly reasonably priced.
