The idea behind this new series:
I have this box, sitting in my craft room, that’s filled with half-finished projects and clothes that I thrifted, AGES ago, with the intention of fixing and doing something cute with them, but have ended up ignoring by throwing them in this box to never think about them again. And it’s turning into a bit of a problem. So, in each episode of this new series I’m going to just grab an item out of this box and fix it up, until the box is empty. This series is mostly going to be focused on simple fixes, so they’ll be pretty short little videos, but hopefully they will help teach you some simple sewing techniques and cover more of the basics, and at the same time help you to make your clothes cuter/better! Anyway, I hope you enjoy this new series - I’m really excited about it!

I'm so excited about this because I'm type one diabetic with an insulin pump. I love dresses but a lot of dresses don't have pockets for my pump so this is awesome for me!!!

Diabetics for the win!!! When i wear dresses, i usually put my insulin pump under a belt i wear under dresses. I makes it less noticeable, if that can help :)

I found a tailored mini skirt recently that has lovely pockets (considering the style of the skirt). I liked the fabric anyway, but as soon as I saw that it had pockets I was sold! I've had compliments on it and I too tell people that it has pockets! Sometimes I browse fashion shops, see pretty average looking skirts and dresses and just think 'you'd sell way more if these had pockets'.

One time when I was thrifting, I got a flowy red linen skirt that appeared to be handmade. After buying it, I realized that it had a hidden pocket in the side seam. I had such a very dramatically excited reaction to finding that pocket. XD

I have a constantly growing sewing pile, I'm the only one in my family that sews so they always give me their broken clothes. I go through my sewing pile every holiday and it takes a good few days haha

You know, i‘ve been watching your videos for super long although i canmt actually sew. Your videos have helped me in the long run for tiny projects where i needed to (in most cases) sew or fix something :) today our neighbor gifted us his old cat tree for our kitties. I spent about 45 mimutes sewing and fixing the loose faux fur that came off in some places and in the end it looked suprisingly clean :) i know it‘s not alot but i‘m so proud of myself and i wanna do alot more projects now!!

This. This is the video I needed in my life. After so many years of wearing pocketless garments, and seeing the massive differences in jean pocket size when shopping both in the women's and men's department, I made a mental vow at the start of my Textiles course that every garment I made would have pockets no matter what. This is the video I have been waiting for.

I'm super grateful for this tutorial. My mom recently bought me a pair of super comfy sweat pants that have no pockets, and I just can't live in a world where my super fashionable and comfortable sweats don't have a place for my hands or wallet.

I actually made a hidden pocket belt to hide inside skirts and pants with no pockets, but I will definitely do this to all my dresses! (and I guess a permanent solution is better in the long term!)

Whoaaa what's a hidden pocket belt? That's so cool! Although do you have to lift up your skirt/whatever you're wearing to get at it?

Annika Victoria Thank you! It's basically a money belt (ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61hU08LtI0L._UL1500_.jpg), but I made it without a bulky buckle to make it truly hidden, and without zippers for easy access. And of course, made the pockets much more like real pockets in size and shape. I made it in stretchband and velco, to be able to adjust its length to wear with both waist skirts and hip skirts. I wear it just under the edge of the skirt so no one can see it, but I can still get at my stuff by just "opening" my skirt a bit from my body - so no skirt lifting required! So it works with every type of skirt that is stretchy enough for me to stick my hand inside, but impossible to wear with dresses - that would require lifting!

+Annika Victoria could you do one on putting pockets in pants that don't have pockets. It's so annoying when they don't put them in or they are so small only your fingers fit in (barely). They just make it look like it but there not there 🙃. Would be greatly appreciated

Wow, you make adding pockets look super easy! I have a dress that has pockets. I usually end up just putting my hands in there and swinging about though. Tempted to start wearing lightweight cargo pants to work just so I have pockets. But this might be a better option, especially when fake pockets mean it would be even easier to do.

I personally thing that the floral pattern on the pillow cases would have made a really interesting pocket design, but I also have a really severe floral addiction. @~@ The idea of opening the pockets to a colorless version of the outside would have looked really neat!

please recreate the supertrash sudo skirt for your next make thrift buy! the original skirt is 135$...the skirt is white and kind of like a mix between an a-line skirt and a circle skirt btw

Tip: As well as measuring around your hand, also MEASURE AROUND YOUR PHONE/wallet/thing you're planning to store in your pockets. I didn't and just used my hand as a guide and annoyingly while my phone fits inside the pocket, it's less safe than had I made the pocket deeper.

More tips for people who are not used to sew/dont have lots of experience (like me): Look that your pockets are big enough, more is better (my hands dont fit) If you do pants, look where the pockets are on pants that already have pockets or you will sew them too low down (they are so far away) Really, really look closely how she sews them one or the seams will get outside (nothing tragic but it doesnt look pretty) It is a good instruction how to do it, so I hope you can avoid some mistakes that I made with these additions :)

This was super helpful! And so easy to execute. I added pockets to two of my dresses. I stitched both by hand as I don't have a sewing machine; one was like the one in your video and it turned out perfect. but the other one was a straight cut dress, so after sewing on the pockets when I tried on the dress, I noticed that the pocket hole and the material inside is visible from the sides. So it's looking a bit off. any ideas how I can fix it? would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

+Dana Briseno Brother JS series were my first machines and they were GREAT! The current machine I have is a bernina but much more advanced/computerised, which would be overwhelming for a beginner.

Thanks so much for this video!! You make it so easy!! I recently found your channel and am obsessed!! Question about the pocket - (I actually did it!! Following your video, and did a small happy dance LOL.) But realized the corners of the pockets could be seen from the front, it wasn't tucked inwards, and it looked messy. 😅 Any advice on how to avoid that?

Excellent! I've been wanting to put pockets in so many of my favorite dresses and skirts. I'm told it's rather easy, and this lesson totally makes it accessible. So thank you! I was wondering about adding pockets to a skirt without side seams, such as the "circle skirt" or the "circle square skirt" (which I made, loved and am making one for my 6 year old cousins). Can it be done? Or is there more issues similar to "cutting on the bias" enigma? Also, I would love to understand sleeves and shoulders a bit better. I recently found a great chart of different sleeves, such as "Juliet" to "Leafs" to "Raglan".

... What if it DOESNT have a side seam ;( I made a cloak and i want pockets on one side (its reversable) but there are no seams anywhere except where the inside and outside meet.
