Since Hakchi CE doesn't have full M2Engage integration yet, this is a quick and easy way to add the Sega Genesis Mini overlays with retroarch. Using this method you can run your games in retroarch while still keeping that look of the Sega Genesis Mini!

I didn't think anyone actually used or even wanted those borders around at all. Personally I turn then off and keep it black, seems more authentic to me.🤷🏻‍♂️

Yup! Plenty of people like borders, or bezels as they are commonly called. Especially with Arcade games.

Might not be for everyone, but it's a cool option to have. The little details make hakchi my program of choice. Little tidbit I recently pieced together that Arin Hanson from Game Grumps modded his SNES classic using hakchi to play Chrono Trigger on a live stream as well as the most recent Guest Grumps with Ben (Voice of Sonic) .... To play SNES Aladin and admits Arin helped him with games, but almost didn't want to say what. Arin said whatever, everyone does it. 😂 "Whatever, I own Chrono Trigger!" It's just easier to capture off of an hdmi device, but I still laughed knowing he is modding his friend's consoles too. :)

I wish the overlays in the folder came with scanline versions. I hate the scanlines that came on the genesis mini, they're way too dark, but the scanlines that came with retroarch look really good. I want the best of both worlds.

If you can blend the dithering and add scanlines then this is the emulator you want to use for The Genesis Mini.

Under this same function there is a scan lines option, that's what I've been using. But I was wondering if I add borders will it remove those? The scan lines under filters comes out all wrong in a kind of grid.

Is it possible to run USA roms at fullscreen? The europeans (50Hz) run automatically at fullscreen. I have playing with differents emu options but I couldn't get anything. Thank you.

Hi Patton. Loving Hackchi, its brilliant. I've found two things though I wanted to bring to your attention incase it's something that hasnt been noticed. First is in game saves but of the PAL region games (games that have save fuction built into the cart). For some reason, the games dont save but US games will do example Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Biggest example of games that dont save are the Micro Machine games and Sensible Soccer. This is using the stock emulator. Second doesn't bother me at all as I wouldnt play it in that format but for some reason the stretched screen doesnt work. Regarding the saves maybe the problem is m2engage as on the SNES and NES minis I have the Genesis/Mega Drive copies of these games and they save just fine

Great vids thanks for the help Just got a couple of questions, the accivement picture have never been on my mega drive mini it just shows the cup would you k ow how to turn it on. Olso do you know of any updates coming to hackchi perhaps better search reseal player info and description?

Nice video, how do I get NeoGeo AES vs MVS games to work on retroarch? I would like to play Metal Slug 3 and Garou:Mark of the Wolves.

You need to install final burn alpha. I personally prefer using fba2012, it tends to run most Neo Geo games perfectly fine. Keep in mind Metal Slug games had slow down points, but as long as the music sounds normal it's running properly. You will need to use neogeo.zip bios placed in the system folder. Patton covers where bios go in his SEGA CD video. If you are not using a Neo Geo game pack and hand select games or have them from a MAME pack, use mame2003 xtreme.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to move hackchi from one pc to another? I’m on my laptop and installed hackchi. I went through a lot of work getting all the games and cover art etc. I want to move it to my desktop. Is it possible to copy over?

As long as you aren't using the installer version yes. You will have to reinstall the drivers on your desktop. Rather than move the hakchi folder, I would reinstall hakchi to the desktop, then move your "games" and"user mods" folder to the new hakchi. Also backup any saves you have with the save manager.

Anyone having trouble with Mortal Kombat and getting 6 buttons to work? It's stuck in 3 button mode. Same with the 32x Mortal Kombat 2.

You have to go into the game options and set it to 6 buttins.

@@PattonPlays so I'm guessing you haven't tried these games. Mk1 is automatic. There's no option manually. MK2 (32x) has manual options but still stays in 3 button mode. I have no problems with Wwf Royal Rumble, Raw, wwf Arcade, Super Street fighter 2, Samurai Showdown or Weapon lord.

You just need to affiliate it with the other core. Remove it, resync, add it again, resync, and when setting up the into on the new game screen choose the Sega core not the m2e core. I can't remember what it's called, supergfx or something, not Pico drive but the other one...but Pico will work too...do it just like that and you'll have sound. If you want scanlines they're under overlays like in this video. It will be running out of retroarch but you can select it from the mini menu.

chuck u farlie thank you bro. I ended up getting it fixed, I hate using retroarch on the sega mini since you can’t get to the save menu. I’m not a fan of saving in hakachi so hopefully they fix that one day

It’s all good, I hate those overlays though, never use them, too distracting and do nothing for me as far as nostalgia for this system as it didn’t have a border....the black border is best imo...save the borders for those other devices like the pii and such.

I don't like the black border personally. It looks like there's too much negative space on the screen. When I played games as a kid, those black borders weren't there. I'd rather have something rather than nothing.

But if you don't use any of the picture backgrounds by default on the 'vanilla' system, this is all academic anyway! Nice that you can do this, but many retro fans prefer the games with black side borders, as they don't distract..... this would never have been an 'issue' on the original CRT TVs........... sorry, it just seems odd that anyone would want 'pretty graphics' around their play screen area.... I'm from 'old school' so that's just my take on this matter. You never looked outside, or past, your 4:3 TV screen when playing these games anyway.... the living room/bedroom backgrounds faded into nothing at the time!

I too an an old school gamer, I prefer to have something, rather than empty black space. I didn't have that black space on my tv back then and I think it is personally more distracting to not have anything there, than to fill it with something. It doesn't distract me at all.

@@PattonPlays fair enough, Ive got a good balance of old school retro and pixel perfect Im playing with at the mo with my shaders. Shader style is a very acquired taste though it seems. 😁
