I don't cut my sashing ahead of time. I leave it in a long strip, sew it on my block, THEN cut it. Voila! perfect length. lol

I use black and decker steam iron. I like the metal iron plate more than the nonstick teflon. They are heavy enough to do the work for you, they last forever, and they put out a lot of steam. I have tried the expensive irons and they don't last or they leak. Unless you are going to spend $1000 plus on an iron Black and Decker is the best. The last one I bought w was on sale for $19.99. Great deal and gets the job done. You can use tap water too.

I just love your tutorials! Thank you for this video. Also, thank you for the link to the rotary blades! I just ordered a pack. I had enough Amazon points saved up that I was able to get the for free! 🥰 I use an Olfa rotary cutter, and I typically use only Olfa blades. However, I noticed that the last pack I got, the blades don't seem to last as long, and as you said, they are so expensive! I hope the titanium blades last longer. At the very least, they are far less expensive than the ones I've been buying. So, that's already a plus! Thanks again!

I'm in the market for a new iron as well. Mine has been spitting and recently started leaking from the base. It's very overwhelming trying to navigate all the options and prices for irons. My friend is a quilter and she recommended the Pursteam iron. It's not expensive and has good reviews. I'm leaning in that direction. I've read reviews for the really expensive irons and I'm not convinced they are worth the money.
@PinCutSew

Try not adding water to the iron, use a misting water bottle instead. Stops all spitting and water streaking. I think it also prolongs the life of the iron😊

I have a Juki hzl g220 with a horizontal spindle to hold thread. My quilting thread keeps falling off the spindle probably because of the small cylinder that protrudes from the center of the thread. Can I use quilting thread on this machine?

Nice quilt, but you really stumbled with the math, it was confusing. Sometimes you said 54 and sometimes 56, when in actuality it was 52. It was a good thing you were marking it at the halfway point and then measuring again, otherwise the strips would be too long.
@PinCutSew
@PinCutSew Год назад
I’m so sorry, I am notorious for terrible quilt math! I even made a video called I can’t do quilt math 😬😂. Yes, it should be 52.
@bobbiwalkingstick1993

@ConkreteMan

26 x 2 = 52, but then she said 54 and I wondered why we needed to an 2 inches. Then she said 56 and I was like “wait, what?” It all worked out in the end though. Whew! Stressful. 😂

Ok i have to ask...was this room oncea bathroom? Or a closet? Im just a nosy old bag, i just turned 75 on the 28th june. Im teaching myself to quilt and your title caught my attention about doing the sashing the right way. So yes im intrigued by it.
@PinCutSew
@PinCutSew 2 дня назад
Haha! The previous owner had it as an office but I think it might have been the houses original mud room and that was the back door. The house was added onto in 1959, but this room was original, That’s my theory.

Thanks for the info on the titanium rotary cutter blades. However, I’ve upgraded to Martelli much better rotary cutter than that Fiskars. Vanessa from the channel called the crafty Gemini is the only one who teaches people how to cut your fabric with a ruler. At the minute marker of 12 minutes 20 seconds where you’re cutting sashing again you’re not using the ruler and the fabric correctly You are right handed therefore, you should be cutting your strips going from right to left. Going from left to right you risk going off course with your rotary cutter and cutting into the main portion of your fabric The majority of your fabric should be to the left of your ruler if you are right handed The ruler is there to protect your good fabric that has not been cut yet
@PinCutSew
@PinCutSew Год назад
Hmmm, this is interesting, because if I do it that way, I can't line up the ruler lines with my fabric's cut edge. So are you saying I should be using the mat's lines for measurements? In which case, the ruler doesn't really need lines at all ... I'll say, after decades of doing it this way, I don't see myself reforming, haha!
@dcwatashi
@dcwatashi Год назад
@@PinCutSew i’ll have to watch her video again, but I believe that she uses two rulers maybe. I have the Martelli cutting mat which is laser printed something like that so I always use my markings on the mat. But now I want to find that video again lol. I’m left-handed so, I have the ruler on the right, protecting the rest of my fabric and then I’ll cut with my left hand
