This video shows you how to attach yarn hair to a crocheted doll with a hair cap. You will need to know how to crochet a hair cap, which is the same instructions for the doll's head (except you stop at a semi-sphere for the hair cap, unlike an entire sphere for the head). Watch all three parts to understand my method to do the following:
Part 1: Adding hair to the hair cap - • How to add Yarn Hair t...
Part 2: Sewing the hair cap onto the head - • How to add Hair, Part ...
Part 3: Styling the hair - • How to add Yarn Hair, ...
This is currently my favorite, go-to method for attaching hair to amigurumi dolls, because I love the look, find it easy and relatively quick to do, and fun to style!

Clever method, it reminded me when I was 18 and went to the hairdresser for just highlights. The hairdresser put a cap on me and started pulling my hair through the holes on the cap with a crochet hook, I was in tears all the time I was there, never again. At least dolls don't feel pain 😂
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 5 лет назад
Aww, I'm so sorry you hurt!! That does sound painful, but wow, I had no idea highlighted hair was done that way too. My goodness, I'm glad my dolls can't feel any of that pain!

@@rayoflightgeneral7988 I think that method was supposed to be used on people with short hair anyway, it would be so painful to pull a long strand of hair that way.

Thank you o much for the video! This really helped! 💕 I’m new to amigurumi and I have avoided doing dolls because I couldn’t figure out how to do hair. I just have one question... I know you said in your description box about how to make a hair cap, but how exactly do you make one?
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 4 года назад
I'm so glad this video was helpful to you! The hair cap basically follows the exact same instructions as the head, but using hair-colored yarn (instead of skin-colored yarn), and you will stop at an earlier round rather than decreasing to make the bottom of the head. This way, your hair cap will turn out to be a semi-sphere that you can position over the head and sit at a slant to mimic a wig. Hope this helps!

thank you! i am making a nurse pixie doll and i do not know how to attach the yarn strands to the doll's head
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 2 года назад
You're welcome! If you're making the nurse pixie, she has just a bun to sew onto her hair cap. I'd stuff the hair bun lightly, then place it right over R2 or R3 of the hair cap and sew it on!

How do you make the hair cap ? Just replicate the same pattern as you did for the doll head (same stitch count) but stop when you have a decent sized cap ?
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 3 года назад
Yes, exactly! Replicate the head instructions using hair-colored yarn and stop a couple rounds before you reach the decrease part.

Hi! This is so cute. I'm doing on of your fairies. Should the hair strands be the same length? Or the front ones longer than the others.
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 6 месяцев назад
Thanks! You can make the front ones longer so that when you brush them back, they will be closer to the length of the back strands.

Hi, do you mind to make tutorial how to make hair cap?
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 3 года назад
Hi! The hair cap is simply the same instructions for the head of your doll, except you stop a couple rows before decreasing. So for example, if your doll's head goes up to R20, you might do the hair cap the same way (using hair color) but stop at R14. Then you'd plcae the hair cap on the head diagonally. Hope this helps!
@jordandieppa756
@jordandieppa756 4 года назад
It definitely looks easier, but I can't see how you started it. Do you have the hair going sideways or vertically when you put it through. I'm a little lost as to start and my hair cap keeps looking chunky. :/
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 4 года назад
Jordan Dieppa hi! Sorry it’s confusing! Maybe at 3:50 it will be a little more clear. I pull the hair bundle vertically through the hair cap (from inside to outside). The hair cap might get a bit chunky inside with the knots you make on the bundle of strands, but it should still be able to go over the dolls head. Let me know if you have any more questions! Hope this helps!!
@jordandieppa756
@jordandieppa756 4 года назад
It doesn't. Sorry. I still don't understand how you started that hairline. It's the start that makes no sense to me.
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 4 года назад
Jordan Dieppa well for the hairline, you’d pull enough bundles through the hair cap in one line, forming a hairline. To start pulling a bundle you will need to knot the center and pull it from in the hair cap to out the hair cap. It’s best explained in the video while I demonstrate it. If you watch again it might make more sense to you the second time! Thank you!

how well does the hair stay? is it strong enough even if it gets pulled on?
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 10 месяцев назад
If it gets pulled on hard, the strands may fall out unless you add some extra adhesive (like fabric glue) to the scalp area.

Do you need the hair cap? Or could you just attach the hair directly to the doll’s head? I’m trying to make a doll with an undercut so I don’t want the hair cap to show
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 2 года назад
Hi! You don't HAVE to have the hair cap! Just make sure the head isn't closed most of the way yet (you need a large enough hole in order to attach the yarn hair).

Great tutorial. Very helpful. I have a doubt. The weight of the hair is pulling the head back. What can we do to avoid this ?
@SweetSofties
@SweetSofties 4 года назад
Good question! For my doll patterns, I always include instructions to add in some sort of inner "spine" for the doll to hold up her head. I often use folded wires or pipe cleaners and insert that up the neck and into the head. You can also use something more rigid, like a wooden chopstick. Hope this helps!
