The 500 4, I had in the mid 70’s showed to have amazon power. Change the timing, change sprocket size, enlarge the bore, 4 into one exhaust ( no muffler) and two side draft Webber carburetors, ( same size I used on my Alfa). My wife would run my Alfa and my bike around 135 mph for nice ride.
This is super helpful!!! I’ve had my 550 running fantastic at idle and at open throttle accelerates beautifully but just on rolling on or maintenance throttle it sputters a bit. Tried everything except this. Everything except the 4-1 exhaust is stock and all specs in the carb pretty much within factory range. Will definitely give it a shot. Thank you for the great content!
DrewBloo I lowered the clip on mine which raised the needle. It helped richen the mixture. now it is so fast! No hesitation at 1/2 or 3/4 throttle. It solved my problem
Thanks for the video, truly useful and clear! I've a question: in case of non-adjustable needle (eg. Cb 650 rc03 with PD51 carbs), how would you operate? I mean, personally, I got my bike running on pods (please don't scream out!) but still I find it a little unreactive when opening throttle (and yes, I checked and refurbished the accelerator pump). Could the needle adjustment help a bit? (slow jet and idle jet already fixed). Thanks in advance. Giovanni
Hi Noticed your not running the stock air filter. As this bike has aftermarket filters do you have to adjust the needles to run richer as the filters breath more air. If you do how much do you recommend in adjusting needle position. Buy the way great videos. Re GA arts from the UK
Awesome content. I just rebuilt my cb500 carbs with your help. I have a question though. My air/fuel screws do not fully seat with the spring in the carb. Should I screw them in without the spring first to find where they seat and then put the spring in and go 1 1/2 turns out from where they bottomed out without the spring? The spring seems to be binding up the screw before it seats. Thanks!
